The Alpha King's Nemesis-Chapter 175: Thinking Hard ()
Zariah blinked in astonishment, she could not have expected three days had already passed by since Caedmon had showed up.
Three days was long enough for a war to break out, much less for rivals to kill themselves and Askel had not been seen for these three days?
Zariah shook her head slightly, laughing awkwardly as deep concern blossomed in her heart, as much as she loathed it.
Zariah reminded herself that she had no reasons to be worried.
It could not have been possible that Caedmon had harmed Askel, they were in it together... whatever this was.
And if by any chance, they were not accomplices, then there was still the fact that Askel was far stronger than Caedmon could ever hope to be.
Ten Caedmons piled over each other would still fall short of Askel’s strength, there was a reason he was Alpha King and Ethereal King.
There was no way Caedmon could have harmed Askel in this time, Caedmon was not that capable.
’Yet he destroyed the entire Crimson Moon.’ A stray thought blossomed in Zariah’s heart.
Zariah frowned slightly, unable to deny the reality of those words.
Indeed, Caedmon was not so capable. Even as an Alpha, his strength was barely admissible, especially when compared with the Crimson Wolves.
The fall of the Crimson Moon was a feat he could never have achieved... not without Zariah’s help.
"Where is everyone?" Zariah asked, shaking off unwanted thoughts.
"Allen, Dionne and Kaileen remained at the Ethereal Palace to observe the changes and keep us updated. We will send word to them that you are conscious now." Nile replied.
Zariah nodded slowly, leaning her head back, her eyes went closed for a moment.
"Alpha, we are caught right in the middle of this situation. What is our play in this?" Darren asked for instructions on what to do.
"We should keep our distance for a short time, allow the Ethereal Wolves deal with their affairs. Clearly, our involvement has not been so appreciated." Zariah decided.
"And the... your other mate?" Darren asked hesitantly.
Zariah’s eyes came open and she passed a look over to Nile and Darren.
Their gazes were furrowed in concern and Zariah guessed they were deeply worried for how she was coping with the recent discovery and how it would affect everything at this point.
"I... I don’t know..." Zariah murmured quietly.
"How could you?... How could anyone have expected this turn of events? Fate has put you in a tight situation Zari..." Nile breathed a heavy sigh, patting Zariah’s shoulder in understanding.
Darren also grunted beneath his breath, shaking his head helplessly.
Zariah knew her subordinates had concluded she was at a loss on what to do because she also was still in shock as everyone else was that Caedmon Grey turned out to also be her mate just when things were going well between her and Askel.
And Zariah wished she could tell them not to worry, that Caedmon was nothing but an impostor, a black hearted monster more terrifying than the forsaken.
An agent of death and destruction who had come to reap their souls like he had done before.
But to tell them that, Zariah would need to begin her story from the very beginning...from the time where she had made a single wrong choice, that birthed many more mistakes and eventually sent everyone to their deaths.
How could she begin to explain all that had happened? The future she had witnessed? The future she feared would repeat itself?
Zariah truly did not know what she would do from here on out. And it was not because she was confused on which mate to choose or what two mates meant for her.
It was because amongst these two mates, one was the devil himself... and the other, Zariah still could not figure out and because of that, she could not trust him.
How could there even be a choice between this two? Both paths seemed to lead to darkness and death.
And behind Zariah was everyone she loved and cared about, the moment she took a single step down the wrong path, they would all tumble into the abyss right behind her.
"Zari, there are things you can resolve by thinking hard and deep about it ..." Nile began again, rubbing a thumb on the spot between Zariah’s brows which were furrowed as she was deeply in thought.
Zariah eased her expression at Nile’s touch and Nile nodded in approval.
"And there are other things like this that you cannot help no matter how hard you think about it."
"For things that are beyond your control, it is best you let it be and let everything resolve itself. You are still just a supernatural...not a god." Nile advised.
Zariah smiled weakly, of course Nile still firmly believed in the ultimate will of the Creator, he was spirit guide, it was precisely his job description to believe.
But Zariah was different, she had long lost the ability to trust the will of an ultimate power to determine her fate... letting everything resolve itself had ended up with her watching Nile jump off a cliff.
Creator or no creator, Zariah did not wish to leave anything to chance this time. She could not afford to.
"Send word to Crimson Moon. From this moment on, I want the rogues closely monitored and have someone infiltrate their ranks...as close to the Rogue King as possible."
"I want to know every movement of the rogues before it even happens." Zariah instructed.
Darren and Nile exchanged looks at Zariah’s instructions.
At this point, the rogues were yet to make any significant moves beyond their usual plundering and so Zariah knew they would not understand why she suddenly wanted the rogues to be monitored even closely.
But not long from now, the Crimson Moon had been overrun by these very same rogues who seemed to be lying idly by now and when they had
come, their strength and organization was far beyond what the Crimson Moon expected.
