The Alpha's Omega Mate-Chapter 154: Her choice.
~Kai’s POV~
There was a lot of tension in the air, mostly between Elodie and Dahlia. And I may not know what it meant or how it came to be, but I could feel it.
I could feel it in the way Elodie’s eyes would occasionally wander off to Dahlia and Amara, could feel it in the way she’d stare longingly at her as if expecting her childhood best friend to pop out of thin air; and that was expected seeing as she’d been the most affected by Dahlia’s disappearance when it happened—
"How old is Amara?" She asked suddenly, snapping me out of my reverie, and I looked up just in time to see Dahlia freeze before she quickly fixed herself and smiled.
"She’s four. She’ll be five in a few months."
Elodie smiled genuinely at that, her eyes shining so bright it felt like a star had fallen straight out of the sky. "I have a daughter around her age. She should be five now though, I’m no longer sure. But they could be besties!" She beamed and I coughed, silently wondering why she was so fixated on Amara.
But you know what piqued my interest the most?
The unspoken truth about how Amara had gotten to be in Elodie’s room by the time she woke up, and how the idea of her being the one to magically bring her out of her two-year long sleep came to be.
I ate in complete silence, one that was occasionally disturbed by Elodie’s chatter, and gods no, I wasn’t irritated by it. Even the heavens know how much I’ve missed hearing her voice.
How I’ve missed seeing her smile...
And cause mayhem.
However, Dahlia and Elodie were in the middle of a conversation I was barely paying attention to when suddenly we heard loud pounding against the door. I shot up from my seat, my frown deepening at the thought of someone disrupting this peaceful moment.
I frowned in annoyance, not missing the way everyone on the table turned to me in curiosity and I cursed colourfully under my breath before setting my silverware onto the table, and snarled; "Someone check who’s there!"
A guard rushed in then, his brown eyes wild and hair disheveled. He raggedly bowed to us and rushed out; "We’ve checked, Alpha, but it’s Beta Orion from Shadowfang pack, and you asked us not to never open the doors to him!"
As soon as the words rang out, we all froze.
I especially froze with rage barely contained. My wolf stirred to the surface, its anger palpable. And you want to know what infuriated me even more? When I noticed the sadness in Elodie’s eyes.
And the joy...
The stupid hope..
She’s been asleep for a whooping two whole years. Alone and in the dark. And yet, she was still so affected by him. Still yearning for him, it irritated me.
Due to my rage, I barely noticed when Dahlia rose to her feet, picking her daughter up before fleeing, and while that would’ve annoyed me slightly, I immediately remembered the reason behind it.
I sighed then and turned to Elodie. "Go to your room!" I barked at her.
Her face contorted with rage as soon as I uttered that statement, but before she could spit out whatever expletive she had on the tip of her tongue, the door came crashing open, and Orion, like a wild beast stumbled into the room.
His eyes roved the room with a maniacal wildness that I’ve never seen before, and when they landed on Elodie, he froze.
Hell, he literally turned into a statue.
"Baby..." he drawled under his breath as if testing the word on his tongue. "Baby, is that really you?" He said again, slowly coming forward until a deep growl came from within my chest.
The words he said annoyed me more than the person, and with my rage seeping closer to the surface, I stepped forward, acting as a barrier between these two foolish mates— one of which was my sister.
Orion probably saw the enraged look in my eyes. He probably understood it fully because then he took a staggering step back, his eyes still wild, his face now contorted into something that looked like raw pain.
Well, I’m not done with him yet.
"LEAVE!" I snarled, noticing the way he flinched before his eyes flew past me to Elodie.
"Baby...?"
"Who the fuck is your baby?!" I seethed now, visibly irritated. "Do you see any children around here?"
"Speaking of children, Tiffany misses you." He continued, ignoring me. "She will be elated when she finds out you’re fine. That you’re—"
"Is that not the same child you’ve brainwashed into believing my sister is dead?!" I growled at him, and this time, Orion visibly gulped before dropping his head.
But I’d seen the regret in his eyes. Seen the pain. The frustration. It wasn’t enough.
"I didn’t mean to. I had no other choice. She’s young, she has no idea how to digest—"
"LEAVE NOW!" I yelled again, noticing the way his eyes now looked bloodshot, and how he trembled with overpowering emotions, his lips shaking.
He glanced away from me to look pleadingly at Elodie, and that action only seemed to rile me up even more. My nostrils twitched with irritation, my wolf stirring with a protective rage. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Please—"
"Get out!" I shouted. "I may hate you but I still respect you as Shadowfang’s Beta. Do not push me to throw you out!"
"Kai!" This time, it was Elodie who screamed at me and I turned briefly to see her crying full blown. Her words were directed at me but her eyes were trained on Orion, and she seemed hurt. Desperate.
She looked like a person in love...
Eww
"Please let’s hear him out. It wasn’t even his fault that what happened to me happened. We cannot continue to blame him for—"
"To your room, NOW!"
"Kai!"
"If you argue with me one more time, I’ll let you go with him, and you’ll never be allowed back into these walls for as long as I live!" I seethed, and at that, she snapped her lips shut, whilst glaring at me with a look of pure fury and disbelief.
"You wouldn’t..." she spat angrily, but I simply shrugged, unfazed.
"Try me." I drawled, "then you’ll see how much has changed in the past two years."
"Kai?"
"You think I’m still that brother who would let you off to this monster? That brother who would take you in when things go south? The one here to bear the burden when he hurts you time and time again?!" I snarled then chuckled, "no. That’s not me anymore. If you do as much as go with him now or wait to hear whatever nonsense he has to say, then trust me, we’re no longer siblings and you can go on your damn way!"
As soon as the words left my lips, Elodie’s mouth dropped open. I too was shocked by how far I’d gone to prove my point.
She eyed me with rage but didn’t spare Orion another glance as she turned to leave, running straight for the stairs leading up to her room.
I smirked in satisfaction before turning to the male before me.
"She’s made her choice..." I drawled at Orion who stood frozen. "Now shoo."
