The Amazing Strike Back: Mommy Wants To Revenge!-Chapter 452: Who’s the Real Bootlicker?
As soon as Conrad Sterling got off the plane, he video-called Anna Thornton.
However, no one answered the first call, and the man’s face darkened instantly.
This trip was originally estimated to take three days round trip. Conrad had his assistant compress the time to a day and a half and booked the fastest return flight.
But let alone a day and a half, even the two hours on the plane just now felt very long to Conrad.
He had clearly agreed with Anna before he left, and she had also promised to keep her phone available and wait for him, so why didn’t she answer?
Conrad felt uneasy because Anna had only started paying attention to him in the last couple of days.
Seeing that their relationship had just started to thaw, he didn’t want any more surprises.
Conrad had an ominous feeling, but luckily, she answered on the second attempt.
"It was a bit noisy here, I didn’t hear the phone ringing," Anna said after answering.
Seeing that her background was at the office, Conrad was slightly relieved.
"Keep the phone close by, set the ringer to the loudest."
"Oh, President Sterling, are you ordering me around?"
"I’ll answer your call if I feel like it. If I don’t, what can you do? Don’t forget what our relationship is right now. You’re the one claiming to seek redemption, what right do you have to order me around? Whether or not I pay attention to you depends entirely on my mood. For instance, I’m in a bad mood now and don’t want to talk to you."
Anna hung up the call directly!
Conrad hadn’t even had a chance to say anything more.
When he tried video-calling again, she continued to hang up and didn’t answer his call.
Helpless, Conrad could only type out an explanation discreetly in the business car: [Anna, I didn’t mean it that way.]
[I just don’t want you to miss my call!]
[It’s not an order, it’s a request, okay?]
It was pretty clear who was the one groveling.
Anna put her phone aside and got back to work.
Her habit is to completely immerse herself in the scenes of the novels and scripts she reads, making it impossible to get distracted.
Even when Angela brought a group over, it didn’t affect Anna.
After all, they were just making noise, blaming Anna for mixing coconut oil into the foundation, but they had no evidence, so they couldn’t intimidate her.
Soon, Angela’s small group learned to use the silent treatment.
They spread rumors about Anna within the company, trying to smear and isolate her behind the scenes.
Anna couldn’t be bothered with them; after all, she had been demonized plenty of times before.
However, Faye Duval couldn’t stand it.
The girl was naturally quite shy, so low-profile that she kept her head down even when walking. When she heard someone speaking ill of Anna in the company pantry, she couldn’t help but speak up, "Anna is not like that!"
"Oh, isn’t she the one who even turned on her own cousin? What can you gain by calling her sister? Doesn’t everyone in the company know about Anna’s reputation as the queen of hype and her scandal of having a child out of wedlock? You’ve been working with her as an assistant, you’ve seen how chaotic her relationships are, haven’t you?"
"Stop talking nonsense; it’s not true! Anna is serious about her work, and her private life isn’t like you say."
"I’ve even heard Anna’s agent is a pimp, always finding opportunities to get her close to rich men. Isn’t she unclear with President Sterling, President Willow, and Young Master Hollis?"
"Oh, it’s more than that. Didn’t she announce recently that Young Master Grant was acting because of her? Who does she think she is, that Young Master Grant would fancy her? Right?"
The speaker looked for agreement from someone who just entered the pantry.
The newcomer was Vivian Neal, who didn’t respond.
Faye was so angry that her face and neck turned red and continued to argue, "Whether Young Master Grant fancies Anna or not is his own business. Anyway, neither Young Master Grant nor President Sterling would fancy people who badmouth others behind their backs."
"Hey, you’re just a little assistant; how dare you talk to us like that?"
As an assistant, isn’t everyone supposed to be obsequious to the artists?
Faye had interrupted their gossip repeatedly, which was really annoying.
If they didn’t teach her a lesson, she probably wouldn’t recognize her place.
...
Hearing that her assistant was being bullied, Anna Thornton put down the script and rushed over.
When she arrived at the pantry, she saw two young artists tugging at Faye Duval.
Faye was so anxious that her eyes were red, her arm being held, and someone with freshly done nails was secretly pinching her; she didn’t dare make a sound.
Anna walked over in large strides and precisely grabbed the hair of the artist secretly pinching Faye, pulling hard.
The person immediately fell back with a scream like a pig being slaughtered, "It hurts! Anna, are you crazy? Let go of me."
"Oh, you know pain, but she doesn’t, right?" Anna didn’t let go.
The other artists, seeing her get serious, were instantly intimidated by Anna’s presence.
"Faye, close the door!"
"Oh, okay."
Following Anna’s instruction, Faye quickly closed the pantry door and locked it from the inside.
Then somewhat curiously, she looked at Vivian who was helping them close the door.
Faye hadn’t been with the company long and didn’t recognize all the artists. She just thought this person was quite nice, as even though everyone else had misunderstood Anna, she didn’t join in the bullying and was now helping them.
Anna let go of the artists who immediately retreated several steps from her.
"Anna, what do you want to do? This is the company, don’t act recklessly!"
"What did you just say about me? Come, say it in front of me again!"
"We... we didn’t say anything."
"Weren’t you bold when you came with Angela to denounce me?"
They had gone to trouble Anna before because they had the strength in numbers.
But now, in this small pantry, they clearly felt a hidden aggression in the air.
In fact, Anna wasn’t as aggressive as her appearance might suggest. After years of criticism and harsh comments, she didn’t care much about such things anymore.
However, there’s one thing about her—she’s especially protective.
If anyone tries to harm those she considers friends, like Mary or Faye, then they’re doomed.
"Not speaking, huh?"
Anna opened the lid of the electric kettle nearby, and a rush of scalding steam surged out.
They said she caused Angela’s allergy and had a cold heart, right?
So Anna decided to show them her wickedness, scaring them into shivering.
"Even if we bullied your assistant, we can apologize, can’t we?"
"S... sorry!"
Faye seemed surprised at how quickly the bullies backed down but still offered a polite, instinctive reply, "It’s okay."
"Anna, I’m really fine. They didn’t bully me, please don’t make enemies in the company for my sake," Faye urged.
"Fine, on Faye’s behalf, get lost!"
Upon hearing this, the two artists who had been badmouthing Anna quickly made their exit, looking embarrassed.
Vivian watched the whole farce from the side, arms crossed, and reminded, "Do you think they’ll tell others you bullied them?"
"Let them talk."
"You could reveal your relationship with President Sterling. Then no one in the company would dare gossip about you. As Conrad Sterling’s woman, you’d have a smoother path in the industry!"
"Who told you I have a relationship with Conrad Sterling?" Anna gave her a sidelong glance.
This Vivian, she and Anna had only met a few times.
They’d hardly spoken, but Anna could tell Vivian wanted to become friends today.
