The Animagus: From Hunter to Monster-Chapter 36: Join the team
Buji had escaped the sudden darkness he was sipped into. He wasn’t also sure if he had been dreaming, or was merely hallucination.
’It cannot be hallucination.’ He was not awake. Therefore, it was a dream. An elusive dream.
Back to reality, he had made a choice back then in the dungeon.
Given the choice to embrace a monstrous path, he seized it with unyielding resolve.
If becoming a monster was his only path to strength, he will take it. Fighting against these hunters was going to be a job, but imagining a world where he had control over monsters like this Night Priestess, had his own monster kingdom, and becoming the strongest of all. Stepping on these hunters won’t be a deal anyway.’
So, he had accepted. "Yes!"
’But, I survived… how?’
Buji wished he was dreaming. For some reason, he didn’t think he can ascertain the fact, if it was actually reality.
Fortunately, there was proof that he was alive. He didn’t see any arrows stuck in his body, but he did see patches, covered with bandages.
He looked around him and saw that he was in the hospital. The scent of the room he was in choked him and he coughed…
"You’ve finally woken up."
Kira was the speaker. She said it, patting Buji on his back with her soft hands to calm his nerves. "Are you okay?"
"I should be. Just the scents."
But then, he was taken by surprise by the noise coming outside.
"Why shouldn’t I?!"
"I’m sorry, he has not woken up."
But it seemed the arguer was adamant as the hospital room’s door slammed open. Buji’s eyes met the person standing at the door, shifting his gaze to the nurse who apologized to the arguer.
It was Emra. Behind her were two young men, and they approached Buji’s bed.
Emra took a long steady glance at Kira, who sat beside Buji’s bed.
"Is this not the girl? The one who awakened the highest talent among the first years?"
"Why are you here? And who are they?"
Emra looked behind her to see the two young men Buji referred to. She was about to talk when Buji interrupted with another question.
"You knew this was going to happen, right? That was why you didn’t participate in the raid."
"Our young lady here was hospitalized three days ago after you guys went on the raid. She was…" one of the young men tried to explain but Buji shut him up.
"I don’t know you yet."
The young man brought out his card and showed Buji.
They were from the association. But what was Emra doing with them?
"Okay. You said she had been in the hospital three days ago. Wait… does it mean I have been hospitalized for three days?" Buji realized.
"Unfortunately," Kira’s voice came from the corner.
’What the fuck!’
"And I didn’t ask earlier. What is she doing here? I mean, how did she come in here?" Emra asked, pointing at Kira.
"I guess the question should be redirected to you. Why are you here?" Buji commented.
Emra wanted to talk but one of the young men stopped her. "Please, Miss Zin, let’s do what we are here for."
"Miss Kira, can you please excuse us?"
Kira stood up and left through the door. Meanwhile, Buji’s eyes swept through the three people standing before him and stopped at the card, the other young man wore on his neck.
It contained some information:
Marcus Gravendor. S-rank hunter. Section Chief of the Raid Team Selection Division.
The raid team selection division is a department in the Hunter’s Association that is in charge of selecting dungeon team raiders from students of the academy. Even before you become a graduate of the academy, you can be selected to become a member of the team.
’But not me, right? I mean, I awakened no talent and I’m still the weakest amongst others.’
Marcus sat on the couch close to the window, waving the other young guy who looked like his subordinate and Emra to sit by.
"Mister Buji, can you remember what happened inside the hall before you blacked out?" Marcus asked with every concern in his tone.
"Yes, I do."
"Make us know every detail."
Buji told them all that had happened, from the beginning of the raid till the end. Except, he didn’t tell them about the strange voice that he heard before everything went dark within him.
He told them about how they had lost three team members before entering the sanctuary, and for some reason, he used the word "beasts". He didn’t tell them the natural appearance of the monsters they had attacked.
"And that reminds me, what about Kirex and Tyga?" Buji asked after telling them about his experience in the dungeon.
"They didn’t make it," Emra replied with a sudden sob. "Poor Kirex couldn’t make it."
’Why is she pitiful to a betrayer? Hmm…’
"We’ve heard what you said. Unfortunately, from your narration, we didn’t hear any abnormalities. That’s what’s supposed in an A-rank dungeon anyway. Only that, we were wondering where the bodies of other of your team members are. But that’s left to the Investigation Division to take care of," Marcus stated.
"Mister Buji, we are here because we want you to join the team. The new team."
"What new team?"
"We’re forming three new teams from the current performance of students in the raid three days ago. Each team will consist of eight members, and the remaining team is lacking one member."
"The girl outside is in your team Miss Emra," Marcus said, tilting his head to Emra.
"And we want you to complete the team, Mister Buji."

"I’m still not getting what’s happening here."
"We weren’t allowed to come in with a group into the hospital, except Emra. And, Miss Kira, please let her in," Marcus instructed.
The other young guy went to the door to usher Kira in. His name was Shima, as he was called by Marcus.
As Kira stepped into the room, Marcus continued.
"She was the only hunter that performed impressive according to our record, during the dungeon raid test."
Emra looked at Buji. If only he had known him too, was also on a raid test. But it was strange, how he had survived. And how the bodies of other team members were not found.
"Therefore, this year, we have selected only two hunters from the first year. Except one of them has not accepted yet, and that’s you, Buji."
"Being part of the team doesn’t mean you won’t continue your tutors anyway. You will, except that you won’t be on a general level like your sets, and most of your tutoring might involve consistent dungeon raids."
’And that’s how I’m getting a tutor without a talent.’
"So, Mister Buji, do you accept?"
’This is the second time I’m getting this kind of question.’
He looked at Kira who stood by the side of the bed, then shifted his gaze to Emra. ’Being with Emra will be great though.’
Then he took his gaze to Shima, and finally to Marcus. And in the same way, he accepted the system’s request, he accepted this request too.
"Yes."
