Chapter 138: Chapter 138: One-sided wishful thinking must accept the consequences

Munni stood up from the bay window, took two gentle steps forward to Yuan Chengmo, her brows lifting into a warm smile.

She reached out her hand and gently patted his head, just as he would comfort her every time she felt down.

"Senior, nothing is insurmountable. Hang in there."

Yuan Chengmo slightly tilted his head to gaze at Munni; the smile on her face was as soft and beautiful as when they first met.

The sadness poured down like raindrops, wildly crashing within his heart, leaving him a bit bewildered.

Suddenly, he stretched out his hand, gently pulled her into his embrace.

Munni was caught off guard being hugged by Yuan Chengmo, stunned for a few seconds. Just as she was about to push him away, he released her and with a familiar carefree grin at the corner of his lips said, "Go get some rest."

Munni chuckled helplessly and nodded, "Good night, Senior."

"Good night, Munni."

It wasn’t until Munni left the room and closed the door that the smile faded from Yuan Chengmo’s face, replaced by a look of melancholy and loneliness.

When you indulge, you must accept the consequences.

Munni once thought she’d never win Xu Yisen in this lifetime, yet when she decisively left the game, she won handsomely.

Yuan Chengmo was no different, afraid his affection would burden her. He deeply hid his feelings for ten years, never daring to reveal them, losing everything even before the gamble was complete.

But he was unwilling to give up. He thought—he hadn’t yet expressed his feelings to Munni. Perhaps once he did, there might still be a chance.

The snow outside fell silently, covering the bustling city in a silver-white curtain.

...

The next day, when Munni woke up, it was already noon.

After a round of washing up, she slowly walked downstairs, unexpectedly spotting a handsome figure busying himself in the kitchen.

She hesitated for a moment before remembering that Yuan Chengmo had stayed over at her place last night.

"Good morning, Senior."

"Morning. Come have breakfast, would you like coffee or milk?" After speaking, he shook his head, "You don’t sleep well, better not drink coffee. I’ll heat up a cup of milk for you."

Munni sat on a high stool at the kitchen bar, resting her chin on one hand, smiling as she watched Yuan Chengmo bustling about in the kitchen.

"Senior, you’re so thoughtful it makes me a little uncomfortable."

"I’ve recently decided to be a warm-hearted guy, just don’t let me charm you." Yuan Chengmo replied while putting the milk in the microwave to heat for a minute.

Munni couldn’t help laughing, "Well, I’ll try my best to restrain my affection for you."

"As the saying goes, liking is wild but loving is restraint. Junior, are you trying to express that you love me?"

His logic made Munni speechless, leaving her silently rolling her eyes.

Yuan Chengmo took the heated milk out of the microwave, placed it on a tray, then turned around and walked to the bar, setting the tray in front of Munni.

"Today’s brunch includes Eggs Benedict, strawberries, grapes, oranges, and milk. Please enjoy."

Munni glanced at the food on the tray, unable to keep a joyful smile from appearing, "If you hadn’t opened a café next door, I’d really want you as the front manager of my restaurant."

"I’m very expensive, but considering your excellent taste, I might consider helping you enhance your restaurant."

Munni chuckled uncontrollably, she picked up a knife and gently sliced the egg, the yolk flowed like water, drizzling over the ham and English muffin.
