The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 728 - 769: Estrangement
"Adolph, it’s not your place to dictate my affairs!"
"When my father was alive, even he couldn’t interfere with who I wanted to marry!"
Adrian Desmond’s voice suddenly rang out, scaring Adolph so much his legs nearly gave out.
"Si-Sixth Master..." Adolph stammered. It really isn’t right to gossip about others behind their backs. Sure enough, I’ve been caught red-handed this time.
"Sixth Master, just now..." Adolph began, trying to organize his thoughts and figure out how to explain his earlier words to Adrian. But when he looked up, he saw Adrian had already walked away.
Adolph instantly felt he was in deep trouble. "Mr. Xavier," he lamented, "after all our years of friendship! I’ve taken such good care of you, yet when Sixth Master came in, you didn’t even give me a heads-up. Now I’ve said the wrong thing and upset Sixth Master."
Mr. Xavier looked completely innocent. "Old brother, I did try to warn you. You just didn’t hear me. Who can you blame?"
"What am I going to do now?"
"Don’t worry. You’re a veteran of the Desmond family. Sixth Master won’t fire you over something like this."
"Look at this mess..." Adolph muttered, rubbing his bald head, still fretting over the incident.
Adrian, with his unyielding nature, detested people meddling in his affairs more than anything, and Adolph had just crossed that major line with him.
Adrian went straight back to his room. The bedroom lights were off. He switched on a wall lamp. The bed, sheets, and bedding in the bedroom had all been changed; everything was neat and clean. Sienna Johnson was not in the bedroom.
Where has she gone now?
Adrian felt like he had spent the entire day doing nothing but looking for Sienna.
Adrian searched the Desmond mansion and eventually learned from a servant that Sienna was in the kitchen. He went to find her and saw her there, cooking.
Sienna was preparing chestnut chicken and was busy peeling chestnuts. The chopped chicken pieces were already marinating. Sienna approached everything with seriousness, and cooking was no exception. Before starting, she had a habit of mentally reviewing every step for each dish.
Adrian’s voice suddenly came from behind her, "If you wanted to eat something, why didn’t you ask a servant to make it?"
Sienna was startled and nearly cut her hand. Without turning her head, she replied coolly, "I felt like eating Orienta cuisine."
"I’ll ask Adolph to find an Orienta chef tomorrow."
"No need!"
"Let me help you."
"No need!"
Adrian rolled up his sleeves, picked up a peeled scallion, and asked, "Does this need washing?"
"Mm."
The two worked in the kitchen, silent but coordinating seamlessly. Adrian had experienced a period of hardship in his youth, so he knew how to cook, though his skills were merely adequate.
Sienna, on the other hand, was an accomplished cook, but her busy schedule rarely afforded her the time to be in the kitchen.
Adrian turned away and twisted the tap to wash the scallions.
The sink was too low for Adrian’s height. He bent over, his shoulder blades moving powerfully with the motion of washing the scallions. His muscles were solid, each one seeming to contain immense strength.
Sienna stared at his back, where a detailed king cobra tattoo covered the entire expanse. Its scales were intricately depicted, overlapping to reveal sharp fangs that seemed poised to strike a person’s throat at any moment, delivering a fatal blow.
In the past, Sienna had been terrified by the snake tattoo on his back countless times. This man had "cured" her fear of snakes in the most extreme way imaginable. Back then, in that ’snake house,’ if she’d had a knife, she would have stabbed that bastard Adrian to death without a second thought!
Feeling her gaze, Adrian suddenly turned around. He saw Sienna looking at him with a complex expression, a hint of resentment in her eyes. "What are you looking at?"
Sienna quickly turned away and began chopping vegetables with rhythmic CHOP-CHOP sounds.
Adrian was utterly bewildered.
After washing the scallions, he asked her, "How should I cut them?"
"Into sections!"
Adrian picked up a kitchen knife. Abyanabad’s kitchen knives were different from Orienta’s; they were shaped more like daggers, just of varying sizes. Holding one, Adrian showed off his knife skills, the blade dancing in his hand. It was a heart-stopping sight. Finally, he tossed it into the air, and Sienna instinctively dodged aside. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Adrian glanced at her, a smile in his eyes. "So, you only dare to be defiant with me because you know I can’t actually do anything to you!" He smoothly caught the falling knife and, with a few quick CHOPS, cut the scallions into sections.
"Anything else?"
"No."
Adrian took over her tasks, not letting Sienna do any more. "Go rest. Don’t tire out my son!"
Sienna didn’t leave, but she also didn’t do any work herself. Instead, she stood to the side, instructing him as he cooked. An hour later, the meal was ready.
There was chestnut chicken, chives and egg, Dry Pot Kidney, Braised Tofu with Yellow Croaker, and finally, a Mushroom and Oyster Soup.
It was quite a spread for two people, especially so late at night. But considering they hadn’t eaten all day, it wasn’t too much.
Adrian wanted some alcohol, but pairing Orienta cuisine with whiskey felt incongruous.
"Then what do you suggest we have?"
"Orienta cuisine should be paired with sorghum liquor!" Sienna muttered under her breath, "Just like Sixth Master should be paired with Melanie Carpenter!"
Adrian had excellent hearing and caught Sienna’s last words. However, he pretended not to hear them. They had been arguing for so long, and he really didn’t want to start another fight.
"Is it good?"
"It’s good!"
"You’ve tasted it before?"
"I’ve tasted it."
"Alone?"
Sienna looked up at Adrian and said deliberately, "With someone. A man. A very handsome one, too! Super, super, incredibly handsome! I was completely smitten."
"Aren’t you talking about me?"
Sienna, who had maintained a cold expression the entire time, couldn’t hold back a chuckle. Realizing what she’d done, she immediately pursed her lips and resumed her stern look.
"Mrs. Desmond is so beautiful, and even more so when she smiles. Why not smile more?" Adrian reached out, playfully hooking her chin as he teased.
Sienna poked his hand with her silver chopsticks. Adrian didn’t even try to dodge, looking as if he’d let her do as she pleased.
Adrian picked up a piece of chestnut. "Try this. It’s stewed until it’s very tender, and the flavor is excellent." He offered it to Sienna. She frowned slightly but still ate it.
Although Sienna was very hungry, she didn’t eat much. Adrian, however, polished off all the best dishes. As a result, he was stuffed and sat there, unwilling to move.
When Sienna started clearing the table, he asked, "What are you doing?"
"Washing the dishes!" she replied, picking up the bowls and chopsticks to take them to the kitchen.
Adrian stopped her. "Let the servants clean up!"
Sienna didn’t listen. She collected the dishes and went to the kitchen to wash them. Adrian watched her with dark eyes. This woman is still angry with me, he thought. What a headache.
Half an hour passed, and Sienna still hadn’t come out of the kitchen.
He got up and walked to the kitchen doorway, gazing at the beautiful silhouette of the woman inside. "Are you planning to give the kitchen a deep clean?"
"Curly wants wontons tomorrow. I slept too much during the day, so I’m not tired. It’s a good time to make the wonton filling. If you’re tired, you should go to bed."
