The Billionaire Stands Up for Me-Chapter 166: Adrian Gordon Has Been Caught
My ankles were tied, but I still used all my strength to kick at him.
He was caught off guard, kicked in the chest, and staggered slightly.
I took the opportunity to retract my legs immediately, curling up tightly, and defensively moved toward the edge of the bed.
Adrian Gordon rubbed his chest, turned to look at me, then knelt down and lunged directly at me.
"Lily Miller, your resistance makes me doubt if you’ve ever loved me all these years! Have you always seen me as a lifeline? So later when Daniel Carter came along, a better lifeline than me, you jumped into his embrace without hesitation!"
Adrian Gordon yelled with gritted teeth as he roughly tore at my clothes.
I laughed coldly in my heart, thinking he wasn’t entirely stupid.
I only realized this after Daniel Carter pointed it out to me, and yet he figured it out by himself.
It seems these days, he indeed hasn’t spent little time pondering our relationship.
"Adrian Gordon, think about your future! If you really do something to me, you will end up in jail like Amanda Gordon! If you stop now, it’s still not too late, I can..."
"Bang, bang, bang!"
"Bang, bang, bang!"
"Open the door!"
Before I could finish speaking, heavy pounding sounded in my ears, followed by familiar Chinese words.
Daniel Carter!
It must be Daniel Carter who’s here!
Adrian Gordon froze for a moment, turned to look at the door, then looked back at me.
"That Carter’s able to find here this quickly!" he said through clenched teeth, glaring at me with a hideous smile, then suddenly leaned down, crazily trying to kiss me!
I used all my strength, pressing tightly against him with both hands.
The rope cut into my wrists, and I felt like my skin was about to split apart. The intense pain made my entire body tremble, but I still dared not relax.
The people outside couldn’t open the door for quite a while, then began obviously trying to break in.
Adrian Gordon, exasperated and ashamed at his failed ploy, violently slapped me and then quickly got up and opened the window.
My head was spinning, the pain muddled my consciousness, leaving me no room to care if he was trying to escape or how he was going to escape.
With a loud crash, the bedroom door was violently smashed open.
A group of built men surged in.
Most of them had Western faces.
But behind them, a familiar handsome face appeared, full of anxiety, and his eyes were filled with terror.
"Lily Miller!" Daniel Carter strode towards me, and upon reaching the bedside, extended his hand to pull up the sheet, shielding my disheveled self.
My whole body was still trembling, not from fear or terror, but because the confrontation with Adrian Gordon had drained my physical strength. At this point, the trembling limbs were purely a muscle reflex.
"Lily Miller, are you okay? Are you hurt? Don’t be afraid, I’m here..." Daniel Carter held me tightly, continually comforting me and apologizing in repentance, "I’m sorry... I neglected, should not have let you out of my sight..."
More people surged into the room afterwards, searching everywhere.
But they found nothing.
Daniel Carter got a knife from someone and cut the ropes on my hands and feet.
They’d been tied for too long, causing severe bruising.
Especially my wrists, which were skinned and bleeding from the struggle with Adrian Gordon.
"He escaped from there—" I pointed to the window, hoarsely saying.
Immediately, someone turned and left, probably to search for Adrian Gordon.
Many people exited the room, leaving only Eric Shaw and three others.
However, seeing Daniel Carter holding me tightly, Eric Shaw turned around and left with the three, standing at the door.
"I’m okay..." As my emotions settled, I began to comfort Daniel Carter.
I understood that during this time, he must have been more pained and tormented than I was.
"Daniel, I’m alright, it’s just superficial wounds..." I cupped his face, emphasizing again.
Daniel Carter nodded, looking at me with deep, trembling eyes, then sighed a long breath, "That’s good... Did he do anything to you?"
"He tried, but didn’t have time—" I replied, suddenly thinking of something, and stared at him, asking, "If he really did something to me, would you... leave me?"
What I thought was, if Adrian Gordon defiled me, he might feel some resentment.
"What nonsense are you talking about? I asked if he did anything not to scorn you, but because I worry about you getting hurt, leaving a shadow."
Daniel Carter stared at me, explaining seriously.
I pursed my lips, eyes unblinkingly meeting his gaze.
He feared I wouldn’t believe him, so he explained again, "I wouldn’t even care about your divorce, why would I care about this? Moreover, if those things truly happened, you’re the victim, I would only feel heartache."
"Daniel..." I looked at him, my eyes suddenly reddening.
Even after being treated that way by Adrian Gordon just now, I didn’t feel like crying, but at this moment, I couldn’t hold back the surge of tears.
"Daniel!" I called again, opening my arms to tightly hug him.
He also hugged me back with the same strength.
Eric Shaw knocked on the door and came in, softly reminding, "Mr. Carter, it’s late, we should leave here now."
"Mm."
Daniel Carter responded, getting up and taking off his coat to drape it over me.
"Come, I’ll carry you." He reached out to me.
I shook my head slightly, "No need, I can walk myself."
"Your leg is injured."
"Just a surface wound, it’s nothing." I supported myself with his hand to get down from the bed, and my numb legs gradually returned to normal.
Daniel Carter adjusted his coat again, ensuring it covered me completely, then held me tightly as we left together.
Downstairs, the street outside was filled with people.
Surprisingly, they were all Asian like us.
I realized from Daniel Carter’s conversation with them that those people with documents, dressed in suits, were all embassy staff.
I was secretly shocked.
He actually alarmed the embassy!
On the way back to the hotel, I learned it was already late at night local time.
I had been drugged into unconsciousness for four or five hours.
"How did you find me?" I couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity after my mind cleared and settled.
Daniel Carter said, "You went to the restroom, and when you didn’t return in time, I went looking and discovered you were missing. The first person I thought of was Adrian Gordon. I checked all the surveillance in the banquet hall and, sure enough, it was him who took you away. Many people in the industry know about his relation with you, so when he left through another route, encountering people didn’t arouse suspicion, they just thought you drank too much."
"He drugged me directly, I had no idea how he took me away." Recalling that scene, my mind was a blank, cleaner than a blackout from drunkenness.
"The surveillance showed, you were indeed completely unconscious, and he carried you away."
Carried?
I felt uncomfortable all over.
Even if his condition has improved, it’s unlikely he recovered so quickly, right?
He could actually lift me.
"It’s different here from back home, investigations aren’t as quick and convenient. I first contacted people back home, went through a lot of trouble, and finally reached the embassy here. With embassy intervention, things progressed a bit faster."
"I’ve troubled you again."
"What nonsense." Daniel Carter’s face darkened, just as he was about to continue speaking, his phone rang.
He took it out and answered.
A moment later, he looked down at me, "Adrian Gordon has been captured."
