The Billionaire Twins Need A New Mommy!-Chapter 766: The Second
"However, I was too busy trying to remove you from the chaos of the secret society that... I didn’t realize someone else had returned as I did. Old Mrs. Pierson. I only found out when I investigated further and discovered she avoided marrying her husband in the first life—and chose someone else instead."
In the second timeline, having been reborn like everyone else, Old Mrs. Pierson changed the course of her life. Instead of being dragged into a forced marriage with an abusive man who saw her as nothing more than a possession, she fled and sought out someone who could protect her.
Unaware that the man she spent that wild night with was the very one she had been searching for, they eventually agreed to be together and fell in love. She only realized that the man she had borne a child with in her first life was him when she gave birth to a son, the same son she had in her previous life.
This time, she lived happily with her beloved husband and raised their son, Enzo. Enzo, raised by two loving parents, later met Naylani during volunteer work. Enzo and Naylani fell just as madly in love and had a son named Zoren.
Since the priest had been so busy removing Lola from the picture, all of this unfolded without a hitch.
And just like that, Zoren and Penny met earlier—at a prestigious school for the rich.
No, not just Zoren and Penny. Zoren became a good friend of the Bennet boys, especially Atlas.
When the priest found out about it, he tried to interfere. However, with Nathalie standing tall within the secret society and supporting her sisters from the shadows, his efforts were futile. Not to mention, the Pierson family accumulated even more wealth and influence with the Bennet family’s support, as both families formed strong ties.
Before anyone knew it, Penny and Zoren confessed the feelings they had harbored since childhood. Not long after, Atlas met Lola and fell in love with her as well. Meanwhile, Hugo Bennet rose through the ranks and eventually became a general, while the youngest son of the Bennet family became an unstoppable force in show business.
Slater might not have seemed particularly important, but with the strength and loyalty of his supporters, he could sway public opinion with a single word. Whether in politics or scandal, his influence had grown into a global cult following—so powerful that even the most influential politicians sought his favor.
Together, they were unstoppable.
But somehow, despite all of that, Atlas still ended up in the secret society for reasons of his own. And not long after, tragedy struck the secret society once more. The man would always go berserk, destroying everything in his path.
"So, in the third life—"
"Did I die again?" Lola suddenly interrupted. "In that second life... did I die again?"
The hooded priest nodded. "Yes."
"How?"
"About that—"
"Was it a failed mission?"
His brows drew together. His confusion deepened when she pressed on.
"Or was I shot in the neck?" she guessed. "Which one?"
As she listened to him, Lola had initially thought that letting him talk would buy her time. While he spoke, she had been subtly curling her toes, trying to feel any sensation return. But amid all that, a memory struck her hard.
Atlas’s dreams.
Not long ago, Atlas had been troubled by strange dreams. In them, she kept dying. Slater had jokingly suggested that Atlas might be "remembering" the past—just as Slater’s own memories had resurfaced before fully returning after his failed attempt to end his life.
The only reason she dismissed the theory was that she had been present in those dreams. In their previous life—the one she remembered—she and Atlas had never met. So she concluded it was nothing more than anxiety-induced hallucinations.
But if what this man was saying was true, then...
"How did you know you were shot in the neck? Or that you failed a mission?" he asked, making her breath hitch. "Don’t tell me..."
He trailed off before laughing quietly. "It doesn’t matter. After all, this time, I will not make the same mistake I did in the past three lifetimes."
"You haven’t told me what happened in the third life," she said, panic creeping into her voice as she tried to crawl forward. "The last — the third one... we didn’t meet. You succeeded, didn’t you? You already succeeded, so why—"
Lola suddenly paused, her brows furrowing.
It had been a while since she allowed herself to think about her previous life. Honestly, she didn’t even want to remember it. Remembering the past had never truly helped her in this lifetime. Well, it had helped in some ways, but it wasn’t as simple as people might imagine.
She wasn’t like Penny, who managed to turn her life around at a young age. Lola had been playing on hard mode—or rather, extreme mode. And every time she felt like she was finally gaining control over her life, something else would happen.
Her pregnancy.
The deaths of her children.
She didn’t want to remember the bitterness of her past when her present was already filled with enough of it.
But thinking about it now, her previous life had been nothing short of a tragedy. The same could be said for the Bennet and Pierson families.
Penny had been incarcerated and executed. Hugo was sent on a dangerous mission and died without ceremony. Slater was manipulated into becoming a killing machine until he could no longer endure it.
Blaming himself for the collapse of their family, Atlas took responsibility and ended his own life.
As for Zoren, he managed to clear Penny’s name even after her death and bring down Nathalie, but his time ran out as well. In the end, he perished at the same grave where Penny’s remains lay.
"...Why would this happen?" she whispered, her pupils constricting as she looked up at him. "What happened in the third one—the one I remember?"
He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he studied her.
"Do you want to hear an interesting fact, Lola?"
"Huh?" 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"The first life was the starting point. In the second one, there were two of us—at least to my knowledge. Me and Old Mrs. Pierson. As I changed the course of your life and mine, she changed hers," he continued, slowly pushing himself to his feet.
He stopped a step before her and knelt on one knee.
"It’s that every change we made in the second timeline naturally carried over into the third. And another interesting detail? In the third life, Old Mrs. Pierson does not remember all the details of this timeline."
"So, I didn’t need to do everything I did in the second timeline, since the natural course of events followed those changes," he added knowingly. "What I’m saying is... I didn’t really need to do anything in the previous life."
"I don’t care about that," she breathed. "What happened in the third one?"
He blinked and carefully reached out, pinching her chin.
"Henrik Bellemonte... and Hugo Bennet."
