Chapter 800: Not The Only One Miserable

Meanwhile, on the other side of the holy grounds, Zoren froze, his eyes dilating. Hugo—whom his men had rescued along with Kiara and Henrik’s son—also stood motionless.

"What?!" Zoren breathed, pressing a hand to his earpiece. "No."

Without another word, he turned to Hugo. They didn’t exchange a single sentence as both of them simply sprinted off.

"Sir!!" Angel, Zoren’s chief guard, shouted at the same time Kiara called out—

"Hugo!" Kiara’s eyes trembled in confusion. "Hugo! Where are you going?!"

Hugo didn’t answer. He had already put a large distance between them.

She whipped her head toward the men beside her. "What’s going on?" she demanded. "Why are they going back in there?"

As far as she knew, Hugo had been assigned to secure this area with Zoren. They had cleared it and sent another team to Atlas’s location. The rest were supposed to retreat once the mission was complete—once she and Efraim were secured. That had been the plan.

Angel glanced back at her, hesitating.

"Tell me!" Kiara marched toward him and grabbed his collar. "Tell me—what’s going on?!"

Angel gulped. "Miss, I’ll explain—"

"Now!"

"This place is planted with bombs!" he blurted out, hurriedly pulling her hand from his collar before gripping her shoulders. "We have to leave immediately. Don’t worry about them. Just—please don’t get in our way!"

Kiara’s face drained of color, her eyes trembling as Angel stepped back and barked orders at the others. Then he pressed a hand to his earpiece.

"Mark, the boss went to Sir Atlas with Sir Hugo."

"I figured they would," came the reply. "I’m already with Sir Charles."

"HUH?!"

"He rushed there the moment he heard about the situation. For now, fall back. Otherwise, our casualties will be severe. From the initial analysis, the bomb is sophisticated. Once it’s activated, there’s no stopping it."

Angel hissed. "Fuck!" He whipped his head around, waving his arms before turning back to Kiara. "Miss, we have to go!"

"But Hugo—"

"Please!" he shouted. "I want to go with them too, but orders are orders!"

His raised voice made her breath hitch as he grabbed her arm.

"Your husband has been in situations like this hundreds of times," he said urgently. "He always came home to you, and he will again. This time, with his brother."

Kiara swallowed and nodded, allowing herself to be led toward the trucks as they evacuated to a safer location.

Somewhere else within the holy grounds...

Allen bit his thumb while staring at the monitors set up by their team. This was their central signal point, coordinating both Penny’s people and the Order led by Pika to provide proper intel support.

Right now, their analysts were examining the bombs located at the main power plants. But the initial diagnosis was something Allen didn’t want to hear.

"Sir, Sir Henrik’s group has arrived."

Allen paused and turned toward the approaching man.

"Henrik?" he asked, almost as if he didn’t recognize the name. "Why—why is he here?"

"Why are you asking that?" Henrik’s exhausted voice cut in.

He limped toward Allen, supported by the soldiers he had brought with him.

Allen could see how unnaturally pale Henrik looked. He had already been pale while recuperating at the Order, but now he looked as though all the blood had drained from his body.

"Why—where are the Young Miss and Young Master?" Allen blurted out before he could stop himself.

"They’re fine. I left them somewhere safe with the very few people I trust," Henrik replied, catching his breath as he stepped closer. "But that’s not important right now. This place is rigged with bombs."

"We know," Allen said. "That’s why we’ve pulled out forces and are trying to analyze—"

"Pull them all out. Immediately." Henrik cut him off. "I saw the blueprints. From what I understand, once they’re triggered, there’s no stopping them."

Allen’s breath caught as Henrik pulled a folded blueprint from his overcoat and handed it to him.

"However," Henrik continued, "if you have experts, they might be able to slow the process down. And there’s another message I need to relay to Atlas—something I can’t entrust to anyone else."

Allen quickly handed the blueprint to his team, ordering copies to be sent to the Order’s experts to assist those stationed where the bombs were planted. Then he turned back to Henrik.

"I’m afraid we can’t reach Sir Atlas right now," Allen said. "He’s with the cardinal and the other leaders of the Secret Society."

"Then," Henrik exhaled, "pass this message to whoever is with him—or heading toward him."

Allen frowned, but his eyes widened as Henrik whispered the message. He immediately pressed a hand to his earpiece and relayed the words without hesitation.

A few minutes earlier...

Lola and Izu sprinted toward the building where Atlas was located. Since learning about the bombs, neither of them—nor the men with them—had stopped for even a second. They were racing against time, their speed pushed to its limit.

But as the building came into view, a sudden glint flickered at the edge of their vision.

"LOLA!!!"

Then, a gunshot rang out.

Both Lola and Izu dove forward, rolling across the ground as bullets whizzed past them. They took cover behind the pillars lining the open corridor, the rapid echo of gunfire ringing in their ears.

"Lola!"

Her breath hitched as she recognized the voice.

"Melissa..." she ground out, snapping her gaze toward the building where her husband was.

"I’m not letting you interfere!" Melissa screamed, unleashing a relentless barrage of bullets in their direction. "You—you’re going to die here tonight!"

Lola glanced at Izu and gave him a sharp nod. "Go first."

"But, Madam—"

"I’ll deal with her quickly and catch up."

"Y-yes!"

Hesitation flickered in his eyes, but he obeyed, darting toward another pillar. Melissa barely spared him attention, firing only a single shot his way before focusing entirely on Lola’s position.

Melissa laughed through gritted teeth as she advanced, pulling the triggers of both rifles in her hands.

"You’re not saving anyone," she mocked. "If not you... then your husband will die instead. I’m not going to be the only one miserable, Lola."
