Chapter 274: Chapter 167 Lu Jingchen Returns
Ultimately, he put down his phone anyway. Earlier at noon, the two had a most unpleasant quarrel, and he had even stormed out slamming the door behind him. Making a call now might just irritate him even more.
The spot beside her was chillingly empty. Though she had always known she shouldn’t fall for this relationship, Song Qiao still felt that she had unknowingly fallen in love with this man. freēnovelkiss.com
With this thought, Song Qiao abruptly sat up from her lying position, rubbed her hair irritably, and turned to gaze out of the floor-to-ceiling window, hugging her knees and spacing out.
She didn’t know how long she had been lost in thought—perhaps a few minutes, or maybe just over ten. Just as she was getting drowsy, the sound of a car engine reached her ears from outside.
Lu Jingchen... had returned.
At that instant, a message flashed through Song Qiao’s mind, snapping her fully awake. Her feet had just touched the floor when she suddenly froze, her face displaying a profoundly conflicted expression.
The bedroom door wasn’t shut tight; there was a small crack left open, and through it, she could barely hear the butler asking Jingchen downstairs if he wanted to prepare some supper. Song Qiao quickly lay back down and closed her eyes.
Feigning sleep.
All was quiet in the room. After a while, a series of footsteps that Song Qiao was all too familiar with began to approach. She immediately pulled the blanket over herself, shrinking inside, her fingers almost subconsciously gripping it tightly.
The footsteps drew nearer, seemingly deliberate in their lightness, soon followed by the sound of the bedroom door opening. However, at the moment the door swung open, Song Qiao’s nose was instantly assaulted by a strong scent of alcohol.
He had been drinking... that was the sole thought in Song Qiao’s mind.
She no longer felt like pretending to sleep and immediately opened her eyes and sat up to see the man walking towards the wardrobe, his back to her. His steps seemed steady, but on a closer look, she could tell they were somewhat unsteady.
Lu Jingchen took a bathrobe out of the wardrobe and, upon coming out, saw the woman sitting on the bed. His eyes darkened, his steps faltered, and he spoke, "You’re awake? Sorry, did I wake you?"
His voice was exceptionally hoarse, as if his throat had been scorched.
Song Qiao tightened her grip on the blanket beneath her and was about to speak but stopped short. Jingchen didn’t say anything more and turned around, heading straight for the bathroom. She watched as he turned and entered, closing the door behind him, cutting off her view.
The man’s expression of utter indifference just now brought an inexplicable ache to her heart. Song Qiao, a bit agitated, stared at the tightly shut bathroom door. Soon, the sound of splashing water could be heard. She thought for a moment, gritted her teeth, but still got off the bed and walked towards the door.
...
Inside the bathroom, Lu Jingchen stood under the showerhead, letting the warm water pour down from above. He wiped the foggy mirror with his hand, revealing his face.
Such a handsome face now flushed with an enchanting redness. The image of the woman on the bed came to mind, her figure in a camisole nightgown looking incredibly tempting. At this thought, a strange heat surged inside Lu Jingchen’s body.
