The billionaire's only desire-Chapter 113: infidelity part 4
Chapter 113: infidelity part 4
Maya gazed at the distant sky with her puffy, reddish eyes as she sat on the deck with her feet submerged in the lake water.
"Do you need more tissues?"
Maya flinched. She had completely forgotten that Marcelo was sitting beside her. She was driving straight to Haven’s to cry her eyes out when Marcelo intercepted her as she was driving her car out of the black iron gates of Dalton’s estate.
When Marcelo offered to take her somewhere special to make her feel better, she immediately accepted. She realized that Haven has her own issues, her arranged marriage saga. She didn’t want to selfishly burden Haven with hers. Natalia is still out of the picture. Laura is still in her newly engaged phase. She has no one to turn to for comfort except Marcello, who is offering.
She did cry and spilled out, explaining the whole situation to Marcelo. He listened without judging, and a few hours later, he is still keeping her company as she wallows in misery.
Maya shakes her head. "I’m done crying; my eyes have suffered enough."
Marcello smiles sadly. "You are beautiful when you cry. Has anyone ever told you that?"
Maya blushes. "No, I don’t often cry in front of people."
Marcello suddenly touched her face, brushing a curl of hair away from her forehead. The intimacy of his touch made her coil inside. She wanted to move away and create some distance between them, but out of politeness, she remained rooted and offered him her fakest smile.
"Oops, are you okay?" Marcello quickly withdrew his hand from her face as if he had just touched a burning candle. "I’m sorry for crossing boundaries. I shouldn’t have touched you without your permission."
Maya’s eyes flickered uncomfortably. "It’s fine; you were just trying to console me."
She hatched a breath. "Do you think he will ever forgive me?"
"Forgive you for what?"
Maya bit her bottom lip hard. "For..." Her words caught in her throat.
"All I know is that Dalton is a possessive man. He doesn’t like to share," Marcello says.
Maya’s heart sank. "Is the Italy trip you offered still on the table? I want to disappear; I can’t bear to face him." The anger in Dalton’s eyes frightened her so much. She never wants to see that anger again.
Marcello said. "We can head to a private airport and board my private jet to Italy but have faith in Dalton. He is smart; he definitely knows it’s a setup and that you didn’t cheat."
But the anger that was brewing in his eyes. Maya wanted to say.
"If he was angry, I promise you, you are not the target of that anger," Marcello said as if he could read her mind.
Maya nodded profusely, and she suddenly hugged him. "Thank you."
"I’ve got you, Angelo," he returned the hug. When his arms tightened around her, Maya quickly broke the embrace.
Maya turned her attention to the beautiful scenery around her. She had been so consumed by her tears that she hadn’t noticed how the sunlight shimmered on the lake. Beyond the lake, lush vegetation engulfed the surroundings, casting enchanting reflections on the lake and creating magical scenery. Maya pricked up her ears to listen to the wind rustling through the trees and the songbirds chirping. novelbuddy-cσ๓
"Don’t get lost in your beautiful head. What are you thinking about?"
Maya flashed Marcello a sweet smile. She tilted her head back and laughed. "I love this! This lake is beautiful, and the scenery is magical. Thank you for bringing me here. You don’t know how happy I am to be gazing at the beauty of nature."
Marcello grinned. "I got you. But you are more magical and beautiful than this lake, Bellissima."
Maya blushed deeply. "Thank you. How do I say ’you are handsome’ in Italian?"
"Sei molto bello."
"Ah, sei molto bello," Maya repeated after him.
"Bravo!" Marcello clapped. "You are a natural! You sounded perfect."
Maya laughed. "I’m Italian, after all. You need to start giving me Italian lessons."
"Sure, hun. Whenever you’re ready, just let me know," he winked.
"But did you just say I am handsome? You think I’m handsome? Aww!" Marcello covered his mouth girlishly and giggled.
Maya let out a snort of laughter. "Come on, you know you’re very handsome. I bet many women have told you that."
"Yes, I won’t deny that. But the most beautiful woman on earth just called me handsome, I feel like I’m on cloud nine. It’s something to boast of, Bellissima."
Maya smiled shyly. "Have you ever brought my sister, Valentina here?" she asked, steering the conversation in a different direction.
Marcello snorted, making Maya feel as though she had just asked the most bizarre question ever.
"Anyone would want to come here, Marcello. This place is happiness."
"Not for your sister. Happiness for her means shopping at famous designer brands stores."
"Oh, right. I forgot that my sister is a bit materialistic." She felt foolish for thinking her sister would be as overjoyed as she was to visit such a beautiful lake.
"But there’s nothing wrong with Valentina’s fixation on designer clothes and accessories. We all have our interests. Mine is food—fancy foods—while hers are fancy bags, clothes, and shoes," Maya said in defense of her half-sister.
Marcello stared at her as if she were the most fascinating thing on earth. "Your heart is as beautiful as you are."
"You’re such a flirt, Marcello," Maya rolled her eyes. "If you weren’t Dalton’s best friend, I would think you were hitting on me."
"What if I am really hitting on you, Maya?"
Maya’s lips parted in shock. "You are?"
Marcello broke out laughing. "I’m joking. You are my sister-in-law, and it would be disgusting for me to hit on you."
Maya sighed in relief inwardly.
A phone rang, and Marcello reached into his pocket to pull out his phone. Maya thought he was going to answer the call, but he didn’t. Instead, he waited for the phone to stop ringing before he began tapping on the screen, likely sending a message to the caller.
A dark expression was painted on his face. "Well, it seems I have less than an hour with you. The owner is coming for his precious jewel."
Maya blinked at him in confusion. "Huh?"
"Don’t worry your pretty head. Let’s enjoy the view," Marcello dismissively said.
Maya shrugged. "Okay."
Her wide-eyes gaze was fixed on the lake but from the corner of her eye. She could see Marcello staring intensely at her, with a sparkling, blazing look in his eyes.
Maya frowned; she didn’t like this at all.
