The billionaire's only desire-Chapter 116: proposal 2
Chapter 116: proposal 2
Maya’s eyelids immediately fluttered closed the moment she slouched into the comfortable, luxurious seat of the private jet, leaving the meal that the private flight attendant had served her untouched. Fatigue had worn her down. It had been a long, tiring day, and she desperately needed that nap.
The next moment, Maya opened her eyes, she found herself above ground level. She wasn’t on the plane; instead, she was resting against something hard and steel, yet warm. Ah, she was in Dalton’s arms. A smile curved her lips.
"Where are we?"
"In my penthouse in New York."
"Wow," Maya exclaimed, still drowsy. "Are we here already?"
"Yeah."
Maya yawned. "I had a lovely long nap, then?" She grinned.
She wiggled in Dalton’s arms, and he gently set her down.
Maya paused halfway through stretching her arms. "Wow," she exclaimed, striding giddily to the floor-to-ceiling penthouse windows. "Is that the Empire State Building?" She turned to Dalton with a wide-eyed gaze
"Yes, it is," Dalton replied as he undid his tie. "Oh, and there’s a balcony too, in case you hadn’t noticed."
"This is awesome!" Maya exclaimed as she discovered the entrance to the balcony. She pushed open the sliding glass door and stepped into the beautifully spacious and luxuriously furnished area. The balcony was elegantly arranged with fancy sofas, cozy chairs, and tasteful decor, all set against a dramatic city skyline punctuated by skyscrapers. "Wow," her eyes widened in amazement. The New York night skyline was beautiful and blinding. She sank lazily into the comfy chairs, leaning against a pillow. She could picture herself relaxing here, sipping wine while Dalton was busy with the business he came to New York to attend to.
"How long have you had this penthouse?" she asked as she made her way back inside
"Three years. I bought it when I realized I was spending longer days in New York during business trips," Dalton answered while taking off his coat.
"Regarding your business trip, I hope I won’t be a hindrance," she said. Dalton approached her and replied, "You can never be a hindrance." He placed an affectionate kiss on the top of her head. "Go take your bath; I will get dinner ready."
"Okay, I’ll go do that," Maya says, nodding like an obedient little girl. "Where is the bathroom?"
"My room is on your right; you can use mine."
"Right." Maya sprang in the direction he indicated, heading to his room.
Of course, it looked like a five-star hotel room, and the bathroom was enormous—the biggest she had ever seen.
She quickly jumped into the shower. When the faucet rained water on her skin, she let out a long sigh of relief. It felt like ages since she had been in the shower, even though it had only been half a day ago. She stood under the faucet for what felt like a long time, washing away the stress of the day.
When she stepped out of the shower, wrapped in a towel, she noticed a dress lying on the bed. She ran her hands over the fabric and smiled, feeling a blush rise to her cheeks. Dalton had great taste; the dress he chose for her looked lovely and sexy.
Then Maya suddenly frowned. She didn’t remember packing any luggage. Did Haven take care of that? Well, that seems to be the obvious explanation.
Maya was about to put on the dress when Haven FaceTimed her to ask how the getaway was going. Maya had to remind Haven repeatedly that it was just a business trip she had tagged along on. They ended up chatting for almost an hour; it could have gone on longer if Haven hadn’t ended the FaceTime to attend to something important.
After the FaceTime call ended, Maya quickly got dressed and soon found herself in the living room. Her eyes were drawn to the large glass window, and they sparkled with excitement. Dalton was on the balcony, wearing new clothes that indicated he had taken his shower. He was bent over.
She slid open the glass door and joined him on the balcony. Suddenly, a delicious aroma wafted toward her. "Hmm," she moaned. "Is dinner already ready?" she asked in surprise, but then laughed when she realized she had spent a big amount of time in the bathroom and had been on FaceTime with Haven for almost an hour.
She was actually a bit shocked for a moment when Dalton said he was going to get dinner ready. She completely forgot that he could cook, having overlooked the conversation they had about it while she was giving his brothers cooking lessons sometime ago.
Dalton straightened up and turned his head in Maya’s direction, holding a bottle of wine in his hand. It appeared he was pouring two glasses.
"Wow, that’s a nice steak dish you have on your plates, Chef Black," Maya said with a grin. Her eyes were fixed on the two plates of steak sitting atop the glass coffee table in the center.
Maya immediately sank into a beanbag positioned in front of the glass table, eager to dig into her food. Dalton sat in the opposite beanbag.
Maya couldn’t help but gaze in awe at the steak dish: grilled steak and cipollini onions with Meyer-lemon nori butter. It was one of the dishes she desperately wanted to add to the restaurant menu.
"This looks good," she said as she picked up a fork and took a bite. She moaned loudly. "Oh, shit this steak is amazing! I will never cook dinner again. You are now in charge of dinner from now on." freewebnoveℓ.com
Dalton snorted. "Then you’ll have to pay me."
Maya laughed. "Seriously, Dalton, this is so delicious. I will make you my sous chef when I open my restaurant." She took another bite, and then another, while Dalton watched her incredulously, as if she were the most fascinating thing in the world. Maya felt shy; she could never get used to the way he looked at her sometimes.
"Are you not going to eat yours, or can I have it?" Maya asked, eyeing Dalton’s plate.
Dalton shook his head. "You can have it."
"Nah, joking" Maya chuckled, pausing her meal to take a sip of wine. She resumed eating when Dalton picked up his fork to start eating.
"Don’t forget, I need that cookbook your father left you," Maya said playfully.
"Sure, I ’ll give it to you when we get back," Dalton promised. "I’ll take you to the restaurant my grandfather owned in Hell’s Kitchen tomorrow, the one I told you about."
Maya gasped. "I would love to see it! How old is the place?"
"It was open in the sixties."
"Wow, that was many years ago, and it’s still running! I can’t wait to see it!" she exclaimed.
"You will love it!"
They resumed eating, and Maya finished her plate and joined Dalton to eat from his. When they were done, they lay down on the cozy floor sofa that was also on the balcony.
With Maya in Dalton’s arms, they share heart-pounding kisses and gaze at the starry sky, bearing witness to their love.
Suddenly, Dalton asked a question that ruined the night. "Why didn’t you tell me about Dan? Why were you hiding his existence from me, Maya?" He was clearly angry, both in his expression and tone.
Maya swallowed hard as her stomach dropped. Was he starting to have doubts about her?
