The Birth of A Volleyball Legend-Chapter 389 : Still Far from Over! (II)
"YOSSHAAA!" Nitta punched the air vigorously as he saw the ball go in. "This is what I am talking about!" He flexed his arms provocatively, eliciting boos from all around the court.
"Fucking hell, Monkey! You are stooping so low I don't expect it!"
"Yeah! Can you see that Lucas has already been down there?! Are you blind or what?!"
"Where the fuck is your sportsmanship, Monkey?!"
Nitta felt the corner of his lips twitch at what the supporters on the stand shouting at him. Haruo and Ito stared at each other warily, getting ready to stop their ace if the boy suddenly let his intuitive thought win and said something stupid that could provoke the supporters. Fortunately, the ace was calm enough to take a deep breath and swallow all the words on the tip of his tongue back to himself.
"Don't worry, Cap! I know sometimes, I can be rash and immature. But I am not that stupid to ruin our chance, you know?" Nitta grinned widely, showing maturity beyond his usual style. Ito was taken aback for a moment, not expecting Haruo to get matured instantly like that. However, what the ace said next shattered that thought immediately. "Also, me? Cheating? Who the fuck did they think they are? It is clear that their team is the one who cheats! I mean, who would think of giving up points to their opponent freely like that?! Isn't this like a thief shouting thief?!"
Ito had a sweat drop on his face as he listened to Nitta's unexpected rant. Not that he didn't agree, of course, but he wouldn't say it out loud like that. Fortunately, no one from Konan High paid attention to them as they all gathered around Lucas to see if their ace was alright.
"You okay, Dude?" Matsumoto asked, offering his hand. Akihiro also did the same since Lucas's body was one of the heaviest on the team and it would be hard for the captain to pull him up that easily.
"Urgh… Except for my back, I think I landed pretty safely." Lucas groaned, accepting the hands in front of him. As he was being pulled up from the ground, the Brazilian boy winced unconsciously, still feeling the pain from the impact before. "Man, why the hell is the bench so hard?" He complained.
The team's head coach himself was not in the mood to joke around like that. Lucas was his best player on the team, and even if his other players could step up anytime to fill up the hole, it still wouldn't be the same. Lucas's presence on the court alone was enough to make any opponent tremble in fear, and that was his aura as the ace.
"How is it, Son? Nothing hurt or feeling weird?" The coach asked, worried.
"Don't worry, Coach! Everything is okay, no need to fuss over small things like this!" Lucas sent a thumbs-up as he showed his set of white teeth, letting his teammates forget about the incident.
The coach himself heaved a relieved sigh as he nodded. "Okay, but don't think you can hide if there is anything wrong, okay? If anything happened, I will never hesitate to put your ass off the bench!"
"Yes, Sensei!"
After this, Lucas went back to the court, followed by a round of applause from all the people in the entire building. Everyone showed their love for Lucas after the hustle the Brazilian boy showed a moment ago. Not a lot of players wanted to do a dirty job like that, let alone as the team's ace. The fact that Lucas was always willing to give his 100 percent on both sides of the game won the people's hearts today.
However, the game was still far from over. This time, it was Kyoei Gakuen's time to serve, and the underdog team was excited to do so. After all, with this rotation, they finally managed to send Haruo back to the front line, which was the strongest formation they currently had. Now, they didn't need to worry that Haruo would be exposed in the back row like before or their line of blockers would react too late since the blonde boy was very capable of doing his job.
After everyone was ready on their position, the referee blew the whistle, and Ito took the serve immediately. He threw the ball far to the back close to the baseline, but Shimada didn't even hesitate to receive the serve. He cushioned the ball with his forearms, letting it fly to the front side which was followed by Sawada who moved to get the second touch.
BAM!
"Oh, nice save, Shimada!"
"Follow it up, Nobu! Follow it up!"
As Lucas and Matsumoto moved in unison, all the eyes were on them instantly. Kyoei Gakuen knew that those two were the biggest threat on the court right now. If only they could stop him, they would gain the momentum immediately. They were also confident they could do that, what with Haruo, the best blocker on the team was ready on the front line.
However, by doing that, they forgot about one player who controlled the game right now, and that player punished Kyoei Gakuen instantly with a gentle touch.
Thud!
"… Eh?"
There was an awkward silence on the court as Haruo was confused about what was going on here. But as he saw the opponent's setter, he widened his eyes as realization hit him hard. He was too focused on who would kill the last ball, forgetting that there was still one person who could determine the fate of the play.
"I said it before, and I will say it again, please, don't forget about me, okay?"

"Yeah, it is official, Konan High will be unbeatable again this year." Ogawa laughed hollowly as he stared at the screen. "Come on, there is no need to watch the rest of the game. They will win." All the members of the Tsunemori team also nodded in agreement.

Yuki and Riku themselves somehow felt complicated. Even though they knew they had improved so much during the summer break, seeing the astronomical change on Sawada was pretty mind-blowing. Gone was the meek boy who hesitated to give his all just because he grabbed his senpai's position, and while he was still a shy person, Sawada transformed into a confident player who dared to do bold things to score for his team.
This was like a fairy tale story of a little worm turning into a beautiful butterfly.
Still, even though almost all of them knew that the game was going to end in Konan's win, they didn't leave their spot immediately, still wanting to see what would happen next. After all, if they could see the transformation of Lucas, Matsumoto, Haruo, and Sawada in one game, what was the chance of any other person also receiving enlightenment before the game was over?
