The next few minutes were hellish for Oyama High players. They didn’t know what kind of spiritual things possessed the two Tsunemori freshmen players, but those two suddenly went berserk. The attacking pattern was still the same, with Riku setting up the tempo while Yuki blitzed up his way toward the front. However, they were getting stronger, quicker, and even trickier, making it impossible for Oyama players to keep it up.

"Damn! Come on, everyone! They are just two players! We just need to get used to their speed and we can stop them!"

"Shut the fuck up, Captain! That is easier said than to be done!"

It was clear by now that Oyama’s front-line players were out of breath, struggling to keep up with Tsunemori’s blitz attack. They didn’t know how Yuki managed to run all over the court without losing breath at all. They just knew for sure if they didn’t have any solution for the glasses boy who kept running rampant, it would be them who collapsed first.

"Come on, we can do this!"

The one who served in the next play was Asahi, and the captain didn’t disappoint. Even though he didn’t have a strong serve, at least his accuracy was good enough to put the ball into a tricky spot in the joint area between the middle back and the left back, forcing the two players there to pause for a moment before the one guarding the left back stepping up to receive the ball awkwardly.

"Sorry, Kanemaru! A bit too short!"

"I get it! Kotaro-senpai, get ready!"

Kotaro gritted his teeth as he saw the ball flying in front of him. Even though he was a middle blocker, the captain knew his team didn’t have any real ace that could break any defense in front of him, so when things started to get difficult for his teammates, it was he who bore the responsibility to attack.

This was his chance to raise his teammates’ morale, but when he saw three Tsunemori defensive players; Yuki, Kaede, and Okamura standing side by side on the back line, he wouldn’t be ashamed to say that he was intimidated. Those three alone could challenge any other attackers in Japan – even Konan High and Matsukita High in his opinion – let alone a mere middle blocker from a no-name team like him.

Even though there was no real blocker in front of him, Kotaro still remembered Tsunemori’s game against Tsukiji High when they played with no blocker and still triumphed past the challenge, and he couldn’t help but hesitate before swinging his arm.

’Shit!’

BAM!

"Oh! Nice receive, Okamura!"

Kotaro scowled when he saw Tsunemori’s libero receiving the ball easily. He moved back quickly, trying to recover to his initial position. However, he was just one second too late, as right in front of him, the next attack from Tsunemori High was unveiled as Yuki was already flying in front of the net, eyes met before the glasses boy swung his arm to hit the ball.

BAM!

"Hell, yeah!"

"This is the fourth attack in a row! Yuki is on fire today!"

"Come on, Yuki!"

Kotaro just stomped his foot angrily as he failed to receive the opponent’s attack once again. Yeah, the ball came in his direction, yet he froze for a second and reacted too late, making it bruise his forearms before bouncing far outside of the court.

"Sorry, that one is my fault." Kotaro apologized immediately, knowing full well that the ball before was his responsibility.

"Don’t say it like that, Captain! You’ve been doing so well in this set, no need to blame yourself!" one of his teammates said.

"Yeah! Compared to you, we are nothing!" The others added.

Kotaro smiled slightly, feeling warm inside. However, that didn’t mean he would stop blaming himself. He had a chance to stop the opponent’s momentum in their last attack, yet he failed to do so because he was intimidated by their defensive line, so of course, this would haunt him in his worst dream.

Fortunately, he didn’t need to wait or do something excessive to stop the opponent’s momentum since their captain’s serve this time went slightly wider to the left side, didn’t land inside the court. Some of the Oyama High players let out a deep, relieved sigh as they finally got a break. The last few minutes were too tensed for their liking.

"Oh, what a pity!"

"It’s okay, Asahi! Don’t worry, it is just one ball!"

"Yeah, we can get it back later! Concentrate!"

The one who served the ball next was Oyama High’s opposite hitter, Kuroda. Just like the others, he didn’t have the raw power to break the opponent’s defense, only relying on his accuracy while hoping that was enough to trouble Tsunemori High’s defense.

Kotaro also didn’t stay idle. Knowing full well that his teammate’s serve would be received easily, he signaled two of his teammates on the front line to get closer, ready to form a wall. He kept his eyes on both Yuki and Riku, trying to figure out what kind of trick they were trying to pull. When Yuki changed direction sharply to the opposite wing, his teammates were eager to follow him, but Kotaro managed to force them to stay on their spot, knowing the ball wouldn’t go to the glasses boy.

True to his thought, instead of flying to the wing, the attack went to the front side, where the middle blocker was already in the air to hit the ball. Fortunately, even though the pass came quickly, the spiker himself wasn’t probably the best one on the team, what with his slow swinging time. As a result, the ball could only meet Kotaro’s hands before it bounced far to the back side of Tsunemori’s side.

BAM!

"Shit! Oka!"

"Don’t worry, I got it!"

To Oyama High’s frustration, Tsunemori’s libero managed to react on time, tracking the ball proficiently before sending it back to the court. Riku didn’t even need to adjust his position, only taking a small step aside to reach the ball before tossing it quickly, and the next thing everyone knew, the ball was back to Oyama’s side already without anyone stopping it from meeting the floor.

BAM!

"Hell, yeah!"

"Yuki! It is Yuki again!"

Now, we are just down by two points! We can do this! This is the craziest comeback of the year!"

While all the supporters on the stand celebrated the point crazily, all the Oyama High were depressed as once again, they failed to keep their eyes on Yuki. The first set was about to end, yet they still failed to stop the combination attack even for once. And now, to make it worse, the one who stood on the service line for Tsunemori High was the executioner himself, the opposite hitter, Yuki Kobayashi.

’Well, shit. We are so screwed right now.’
