Chapter 297: Kaiden’s First Mate (Part Two)

Emily tightened her hold around Kaiden as she let him speak his heart out, all his pain, sufferings, and insecurities.

"Every time you were in danger, it reminded me of Elisa and how I was unable to save her. I kept questioning myself whether I deserved you or not after failing Elisa, whether I’ll be able to protect you or not." Kaiden confessed as he recalled those memories from six years ago. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Emily once again pulled away from the hug to look into his eyes as she spoke, "And I’m happy that you were brave enough to accept me and fight your insecurities. Thank you for not giving up on me." And she meant it. She was really thankful that he fought with every negative emotion and ended up winning.

"Angel, do you think I’m not a capable mate? Do you think I deserve you?" He genuinely seemed hesitant about her answer as he asked those questions and it only broke Emily’s heart.

While she appreciated him not hiding his vulnerable side from her, she was having a hard time accepting it as she couldn’t believe someone like him was struggling with such insecurities and past.

"You don’t even have to ask. You are just perfect the way you are. You not only love me and care about me, but you are also understanding, and supportive. And you have always been there for me whenever I needed you. Kaiden... you are a great protector."

She wasn’t just saying these to make him feel good, she meant what she was saying. No matter what his past was, him from the present was perfect in every way. "I love you, Kaiden. Let me share this pain with you from now on as your mate. If you think that Elisa hadn’t forgiven you, we both will ask for her forgiveness together until the day you will feel that she has forgiven you."

Kaiden pulled her into a tight hug as he cried his heart out. No more words were exchanged between them as they just settled down on the floor and Emily allowed him to vent out his suppressed pain.

She closed her eyes and placed her face against the top of his head that was resting against her shoulder, and just let her fingers brush through his hair while she tried to connect with his wolf. It didn’t even take her half a minute before his wolf reached back to her.

Emily pictured a meadow and the wolf in it before she too went there and greeted the wolf, settling down on the ground beside it as she rubbed her fingers through its soft fur. It needed just as much care as Kaiden. Both of them had equally suffered and both needed equal love to get over that pain.

She felt Kaiden relaxing in her arms as his wolf started calming down and it finally made her own heart relax a little bit.

She wasn’t sure how long they sat there on the floor inside the office but it was already midnight by the time Kaiden was finally back in a stable mood. He stood up and helped her before taking her toward the couches that were placed around a small coffee table.

"Wait here, I’ll get us some water." He told her and then left the office to get water for both of them.

But when he returned after ten minutes, he was holding way more things than just a water bottle in his hands. Looking at all the stuff that he had brought, made Emily smile.

He placed everything on the table before opening the bottle and handing it to it. He then crouched down on the floor in front of her as he took one of her feet in his hands.

Emily watched as he carefully took off her heels one by one and even gave her feet a little massage before he made her place her legs on the long couch and covered them with the blanket that he had brought.

He helped her in removing the jewelry that she was wearing, only leaving the rings on her finger - the emerald one that she had always been wearing and the one that he just gifted her. Both were sitting side by side on her forefingers and while they looked so different from each other, they both gave her the same sense of importance.

She was about to ask Kaiden if he knew who gifted her the emerald ring because she herself couldn’t recall, but her words got caught in her throat when she felt his fingers brushing through her hair.

He had also got a hair tie from somewhere and he used it to tie her hair in a high bun. Emily allowed him to do as he wished not only because she was also thinking about timing her hair up in a bun but also because she knew that he was only trying to make her feel comfortable.

"Thank you." She thanked him as he completed his mission and moved to sit on the couch as he pulled her legs to sit on his lap.

"I heard it before from Rylan that her birthday is the same as mine. You did visit her today, right?" She asked him as she suddenly recalled one of her conversations with Rylan and Shane during their first year in the Academy on her birthday.

Kaiden nodded his head in affirmative before he spoke, "I did. This morning."

"Can you... take me there too sometime in the future? I want to meet her too." Emily requested and watched as Kaiden turned to look at her with warm eyes as he nodded his head in approval.

"Wait here. I have a photo of her. I’ll get it for you to see." He said as he stood up and moved towards the other side of the office.

Emily waited as she watched him search for the said photo. It took him a minute or two before he found it and brought it back with him and handed it to her.

And as Emily’s eyes landed on the photo, she felt the entire world coming apart around her as her worst nightmare came to reality.
