The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 317: Change of Heart
Emily let out a soft moan as she felt her muscles relaxing thanks to the massage that Kaiden was giving her. His fingers moved expertly over her tensed upper back muscles as he used his skills for the good.
"Just how harsh Domenic was that you ended up this tensed?" The man asked as he worked up and down on her back, his fingers drifting swiftly over her smooth skin.
"Don’t even ask." Emily was in no mood to recall the lecture that she had heard from Domenic just a couple of hours ago. He looked so mad that she was genuinely afraid for herself when he called her into his study. At that moment, she almost recalled her initial days at the mansion when she used to be really afraid to be ever called into his study.
Thankfully, he didn’t let his anger out on her except for the part where he clearly warned her not to play any tricks on him along with the Fae King.
"What are you going to do now?" Shadow asked as he watched her from across the room. The man knew her way better than to believe that she would be listening to Domenic that easily.
"What else can I do other than following his order?" Emily tried to act innocent but the silence that followed her question and the arch of Shadow’s eyebrows made her realize that her trick wasn’t working on her men at all.
"Fine. It doesn’t matter if you guys know, not like either of you is going to sell me off to Domenic." She did take quick looks between the two men to see their reaction to her statement and looking at their expressions, it seemed like she could really trust them. "I don’t really have a plan at the moment but I’m sure I can get one after discussing it with the Fae King." She confessed truthfully.
Though Kaiden didn’t respond immediately, Shadow let out a small sigh and spoke while shaking his head, "You were supposed to be focusing on your training but from what I’m seeing that’s the last thing on your schedule at the moment. Besides, don’t you think you shouldn’t meddle in Domenic’s personal life if he’s telling you not to?"
Kaiden’s fingers stilled in their movements as the room suddenly got silent, it was only when several long moments had passed did Emily decided to speak. "Maybe it seems like I’m being too nosey but it’s only because I can guess why Domenic is trying to run away from this golden chance that has been bestowed upon him."
The fingers started massaging her back once again and Kaiden even snuggled closer to her as if he was worried to miss anything that she was going to say next. As for Shadow, he too seemed somewhat interested to hear more of what she had to say.
"Though I haven’t been there with my brothers from the very beginning, I have heard and seen enough of the duties and responsibilities that Nick has been working so hard for since his teenage. All his life, his family and business have been his priorities. It’s almost like he stopped living for himself a very long time ago."
Emily stopped speaking to take in a deep breath before she continued, "Us siblings are indeed each other’s greatest strength, it seems like somehow we have become his biggest weakness that keeps holding him back whenever there is a chance for him to reach out to his own happiness... But I want my brother to be happy and able to live for himself."
She looked straight into Shadow’s intense amber eyes before continuing, "I want to know if he’s only trying to run away from the Fae King because of us or if it is because he genuinely doesn’t like his destined mate. If it’s the latter, I will respectfully leave him alone but if it’s the former, my brother does need an external push."
Barely a second or two passed before Shadow stood up from his seat and strode closer to where Emily was sitting with Kaiden. He came to stand right in front of her before he bent a little bit to close some space between their faces while one of his hands came to rub her on the head. "You have really grown up, Princess."
It was undoubtedly a compliment and if his words weren’t enough to make it clear then the proud look on his face did the job perfectly.
"Is this your way of giving me a green signal?" Emily asked while arching her eyebrows high while looking up at him.
Shadow let out another small sigh before he gave her a small nod with one of his rare beautiful smiles before he turned away and left the room without another word.
Emily’s eyes followed the man till his silhouette disappeared from her sight, not knowing exactly where he was heading. She was pulled out of her thoughts when Kaiden suddenly moved his hands around her waist and pulled her back to rest against his chest.
"He’s right, Angel. You are really getting mature. You were able to see something so deep in your brother’s case that probably all of us overlooked and I do agree with you, Domenic does seem like someone who will let go of his happiness just to fulfill his responsibilities toward his family and employees, and if it’s the real reason behind him pulling away from the Fae King, then he does need someone to make him understand that he no longer owes anyone anything, that he deserves to be happy just like anyone else."
Emily turned around in her mate’s arms and moved closer into his embrace before she buried her face in his chest. "I just hope that Nick won’t hate me for this."
Kaiden tightened his arms around her and rested his chin on the top of her head as he replied, "He can never hate you, Angel. You are the person he loves the most in this world and you are probably the only one who can make him change his heart."
