Chapter 347: A Rare Confession

Emily almost fell asleep when she was suddenly shaken awake by the faint sounds of movements nearby. As her eyes flew open, she saw Shadow finally waking up from the deep slumber he netted after drinking the blood.

He now looked completely healed, strong, powerful, and just as good as the first time they met years ago. Thinking about it, Emily realized that it had been so long since she last saw him this healthy.

A smile of relief and satisfaction made its way to her lips as she stood up from her chair and moved toward the couch where he had been sleeping for the past couple of hours.

Shadow also moved to a sitting position when he noticed her. "What time is it, Princess?" he asked as his eyes searched for a clock or probably to look outside from the window that was now closed, refraining from getting a glimpse of the outside world, not like that could have helped much considering the Night Valley was always surrounded in darkness no matter what time of the day it was.

"It’s nearly half past eight in the evening. You slept for over four hours." Emily provided the answer he was looking for and watched as his eyebrows arched in both question and confusion as he turned to look at her.

"I slept for that long?"

She nodded her head in affirmative at his question.

Shadow let out a sigh before he stood up and moved toward the full-length mirror that was sitting in one of the corners of the study. His face showed just how much he disliked his current groggy appearance because of sleeping on the couch.

Emily watched from behind as he pressed some sort of button on the nearby shelf and it immediately gave way to a hidden wardrobe. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Next, he took off his shirt, leaving his well-built muscular upper body on full display, and Emily couldn’t help but appreciate just how good of a physique he possessed. Her eyes traveled all across his broad shoulders before following his defined spine and the muscles of his back that moved in sync every time he made a movement.

He took out a fresh black shirt from his collection and put it on before tucking the bottom safely into his black trousers. He then added a belt and put on a new pair of shoes. Lastly, he pulled his long black hair into a high bun with a few loose strands decorating his face.

(A/N: Shadow originally had long hair but to not stand out a lot to Alessandro’s, he previously put on a spell to make his hair appear short)

Once he was done getting changed, he quickly cast a spell to finish the task. He looked as good as one could - neatly dressed, healthy, handsome, and powerful.

"That’s the quickest I have ever seen anyone getting changed." She said as Shadow made his way back to the couch where she was standing.

A hint of a smile stretched the corners of Shadow’s lips at her statement before he replied - "I will take that as a compliment."

Emily couldn’t help but chuckle while she shook her head slightly. It felt so good to see him joking a bit.

"So, exactly what did you do to my wine?"

The question came out of nowhere and too suddenly that Emily was at a complete loss of words. She just stood there, staring at him in surprise.

Shadow looked up to meet her gaze before he spoke - "Did you believe I won’t find out?"

"You know..." That was all she could muster out after a few moments of processing what exactly happened. She must have said that she would handle it if he did find out about their plan but she sure wasn’t ready to face it so quickly.

"Of course, I know, Princess. Even though they were just a few drops, I can still tell now since I’m back to normal. If I can’t even recognize your blood, am I even worthy to stand by your side?"

Shadow couldn’t tell her that it was actually the remaining soulmate bond between the two of them that recognized her blood as soon as he opened his eyes. And while a part of him didn’t like the idea of her injuring herself just to help him, the bigger and more insane part was filled with happiness and fulfillment to have such a close connection with his mate for once in his lifetime.

Emily let out a sigh before she spoke - "I won’t apologize, Shadow. I did what I thought would help you and it did help you."

Shadow closed the remaining distance between the two of them and took hold of her hands before he spoke in a soft voice - "I know, Princess, and thank you so much for what you did for me. But please promise that you won’t do anything this stupid ever in the future. Okay?"

"I won’t." Emily wasted no time before she rejected the idea of making such a promise. "I will do it again if it means that I can save your life. Don’t forget that you matter to me way too much to leave you like this... that I love you..."

Shadow sucked in a deep breath as his ears took in her confession and every cell in his body rejoiced in pure joy. It wasn’t the first time he heard her confession but it was still not something he had heard very often or could get to hear often in the future either.

Therefore, he decided to no longer argue with her. All that he wanted in that moment was to see his Princess happy. So, he did the one thing he knew he could do without making things bad between her and Kaiden. He took another step toward her and wrapped his arms around her small waist before pulling her into a tight hug.

She accepted the hug without any resistance and her small hands came to rest around his waist as she whispered - "Thank you for not being mad."
