The Broken Halo-Chapter 138: I Can Help
Devouring Pellin’s child seemed like he was taking it too far and crossing a line that should not be crossed. However, Simon’s mind was made up and the waves that formed in his heart after killing the boy was no more.
There were several reasons why Simon chose to devour Pellin’s son, and one of them was because he couldn’t leave any trace behind.
Simon was not certain what methods the Shadowgrave Clan had to investigate the causes of the death of a clan member, but he knew of some methods demons usually used.
Devour could counter these methods because it consumed nearly everything a demon had.
To prevent the clan from figuring out that he was the one that killed Pellin’s son, he had to do some things, and devouring the child was one of them.
Pellin’s child had not even awakened his demon heart and birthed his chaos flame, so he gained very little from devouring the child.
Only a drop of ink that further stained the whiteness of his past life’s hero heart.
Another reason why Simon devoured the child is because he wanted to increase his proficiency in using Devour.
Simon could acknowledge the fact that this was a twisted and sick thought, and it was a thought he would never have had in his past life.
To use the corpse of a child to advance his skill proficiency was something he never believed he’d do in his entire life.
But, since he already planned on devouring the child to not leave any trace behind, he’d rather use the opportunity to get something meaningful, and that’s him increasing his proficiency of Devour with the child’s corpse.
Every time he uses Devour, his Seven Stars Blessing guides him and gives him hints and clues on how the skill could be improved.
Simon could not easily put this feeling into words, but to him, it felt like the Seven Stars Blessing was ensuring that the skill opened itself up to him like a book, allowing him to see and understand far more than others could.
A few seconds passed after Simon used Devour on Pellin’s son, and the son was now a dessicated corpse like her mother.
Simon took one last glance at the corpse, then he approached Pellin’s corpse.
He placed his hand on him, and devoured him too.
Pellin was a Prime Archfiend, and it was because of this he chose to devour Pellin last and not the wife or the child.
Devouring the wife and child had increased his proficiency in the usage of Devour, and though it was not a significant increase, every increase in his proficiency meant he could gain more the next time he used Devour.
And this was evident when he used Devour on Pellin’s corpse.
Pellin was a demon pig. His physique was not suited for battle, and Simon was actually not expecting much.
Pellin was not fast. In fact, he could be said to be rather slow amongst other Archfiends.
His physical strength was also not impressive. But what was impressive was his constitution.
After devouring Pellin’s corpse, Simon could feel his muscles and skin become more durable. The difference was at least double of what it was before, and this pleased Simon.
Although his biggest gain was the increase to his constitution, Simon’s physical strength and speed also experienced an increase.
"Not bad. If I’m able to devour the corpse of the Alpha in my ring, I should be able to battle Supreme Fiends with a Royal Bloodline and even Minor Archfiends who have battle experience unlike Pellin."
Simon clenched his right hand a few times, then he nodded and looked around.
He saw the blood stains on almost every corner of the room, then he sighed softly.
He looked at Pellin’s dessicated corpse, then he touched it once again, and black flames came to life around his Chaos Wraps.
Simon summoned the Chaos Flames of the Chaos Wraps, and the moment it touched Pellin’s dessicated corpse, it burned to ash at a rather fast pace.
With Simon’s command, the Chaos Flames dissipated after brining Pellin’s corpse to ashes, then Simon sent those ashes into his spatial ring.
He walked up to the dessicated corpses of the wife and child, and he did the same, burning them to ashes and putting their ashes in his spatial ring.
’I might not know much about the Chaos Flames, but I believe that if I use it to burn their corpses to ashes, the chances of the clan been able to find anything after this has been drastically reduced.’
Simon then approached the door and crouched. He placed his right hand on the blood beneath and he used Devour on it before anybody outside decided to inspect and ask questions about the blood.
He wasn’t certain why none had knocked despite the blood that flowed outside, but who was he to complain?
Since he was still safe, he needed to clean up the scene as much as possible.
As he used Devour on the blood, it was drawn into his hand and sucked into his body.
A few seconds later, all the blood was sucked into his body and Simon released a deep breath.
"I’ve devoured all three, burnt all three, and made sure that none outside entered. I’ll need to check the room in case there’s any recording device or formation like a CCTV camera."
Simon walked up and down, then he looked at the blood stains on the ground. He frowned, then groaned while holding the space between his brows.
"Cleaning all this blood would take a lot of time. I only planned on killing Pellin and having to clean his blood. Now, I have so much more to do... I doubt I can finish this before my classes tomorrow and before somebody comes looking for Pellin and his family."
"What do I do?"
Just as Simon said with a perplexed and pondering expression, his shadow rose and a familiar voice drifted into his ears.
"I can help brother."
