The Broken Halo-Chapter 223: I’ll Go
Some minutes after Merath and Jorra left, Instructor Sormon finally came back with a bunch of students floating in front of him as he walked down the wall.
He was using his dark brown demonic energy to carry the students, and some of Simon’s classmates glanced at him.
They knew what this meant.
Simon was the only member of the class to climb five hundred feet of the cliff wall.
No other person arrived through shadow teleportation before and after Simon. Not even Sunless could reach the fifth section before two hours were up.
This pissed off Instructor Sormon far more than one might think, and he nearly gave Sunless an extra one hour so that Simon would not be the only Initiate of the class to achieve something that was actually not meant to be achieved.
To climb five hundred feet of the cliff wall was a task that was actually not meant to be completed on the first day of class.
Especially when every hundred feet of the wall was different.
It was expected that it would take the Initates some months before they could finally reach the five hundred feet mark, but Simon did it in a day.
Instructor Sormon believed that the chances of anybody in the class climbing five hundred feet was less than 0.1%.
Although, there have been some First Years in the past who achieved this on the first day, they were either demons with Royal Bloodlines or were demons who had the racial ability to easily climb walls like he did.
But there has never been a slave with a Common Bloodline to achieve this.
It felt like Simon had not only slapped him, he had pissed on his face while throwing shit into his mouth.
He felt so disgusted by the fact that a slave was the only one to accomplish the impossible on the first day of class, and everybody could literally see the disgust and coldness in his eyes as he stared at Simon.
Simon indifferently stared back at the Instructor, and when Instructor Sormon finally reached the ground, he shifted his gaze from Simon to the kids whom he gently lowered to the ground.
He inhaled deeply, controlled his emotions, then he called for the attention of all the Initiates.
Clap!
Clap!
"Everybody. The next training is about to begin."
Some groaned, especially those who attended the physical training class. They were amongst the first to fail the first training.
A few seconds later, all the students gathered together, though Simon noticed that a few students were missing.
’Those two students that fell from their resting platform after complaining and two other students I don’t see anywhere.’
Simon took a glance around, then he shifted his gaze back to Instructor Sormon who began to speak.
"For the next training, I’m going to teach you how to walk on walls."
Instructor Sormon paused for a moment, then he continued.
"I’m sure some of you must have been wondering how I was able to walk on this wall over here, and what can I tell you is that to learn how to walk on wall, it would require patience and control."
"Patience because if you’re not careful, you can lose control and fall, which can eventually lead to your death."
Instructor Sormon paused once again.
"To learn how to walk on walls, you need a fine control of your demonic energy."
"Walking on walls requires you to coat your feet or even hands or claws, so that you can create a temporary grip or attraction to the wall."
"If you use too much energy, you’ll be sent flying. If you use too little, you’ll slip."
Some of the Initiates were baffled because it didn’t just make sense to them.
How much energy did they have to use to be able to walk on walls then?
Was it so simple?
All they needed to do was to cover their feet or hands with the right quantity of demonic energy, and they could walk on wall?
Seriously?
"Let me give you guys a demonstration."
Instructor Sormon’s voice caused everybody to focus on him.
They saw as Instructor Sormon calmly placed his right foot on the wall, then they saw a faint dark brown light around his foot.
Next, he placed his left foot on the wall, and the same faint dark brown light glowed around his foot.
He began to walk.
He turned to the right and took a few steps .
He turned to the left and also took a few steps.
Then he turned and faced the kids, making everybody to have a sense of déjà vu.
This scene reminded everybody of when they first arrived, where Instructor Sormon was standing in the exact same spot and all of them were looking at him from above.
Instructor Sormon indifferently glanced at the children with his hands placed behind his back.
"To be honest, not every average and elite school teaches how to walk on walls because they believe it’s not necessary. When one becomes a Greater Demon, they learn how to fly, so everybody believes learning how to walk on walls is pointless."
"In the past, the clan believed so too. But when there was a war against our clan, many of the clan members suffered because they were not used to walking on walls. They were used to horizontal floors, not vertical floors, and the clan was nearly destroyed because of that."
"Learning how to walk on walls teaches you how to have a much better control of your demonic energy. And I promise you that once you master it, your control of demonic energy would be beyond the students of many other elite academies."
The eyes of a few brightened at the Instructor’s words, and they were eager to learn.
For some, the main reason why they were eager to learn was because of Simon.
They foolishly believed that if they learned how to walk on walls, their level of control over their demonic energy would match or maybe even be better than Simon’s.
They knew the absurd level of control Simon had over his demonic energy, and they believe that it was his main advantage over them.
So, they were very eager to learn.
Instructor Sormon did not know this, but he was pleased with the gazes of the Initiates beneath him.
"Alright, does anybody want to give it a try?"
To the surprise of Instructor Sormon, Sunless, Merath, Jorra, and his classmates... Simon raised his hand the instant the Instructor said these words.
"I’ll go." Simon said.
