The Cat-Like Miss Preston: Mr. CEO begs for Reconciliation!-Chapter 136: She Misunderstood Him
Aurora Summers stood quietly to the side, twisting her fingers, not daring to make a move.
Donovan Xavier didn’t pay her much attention. His expression was indifferent as he continued to look through the documents and sign them.
I need to finish work quickly so I can go home to my wife. I wonder if Chloe misses me. Either way, I miss her terribly. I’ll have to kiss her properly when I get back.
Thinking of her, his brow softened involuntarily. The light overhead cast sharp shadows, making his features appear even more sculpted and profound. He had a sharp jawline and noble brows, giving him an unmatched handsomeness. He was like the moon in the sky—beautiful, but utterly out of reach.
Aurora watched him, completely mesmerized.
He’s so handsome, she thought. His features are even more refined than a woman’s, yet there isn’t a trace of feminine softness about him. He just exudes this cold, commanding, and aristocratic aura.
Donovan was completely focused on the files before him, oblivious to the scorching gaze of the woman beside him. He raised his hand and took a sip of coffee. His Adam’s apple bobbed with the motion, a simple act that, combined with his devastatingly handsome face, was unconsciously seductive.
So alluring, so tempting. Aurora felt her cheeks flush. Her heart began to race, a restless, itching sensation spreading through her as if countless tiny insects were crawling under her skin.
Her eyes immediately locked onto the dazzling wedding ring on his hand. Everyone in the company said he was already married.
What a shame he married so young. I wonder what woman was lucky enough to marry him and become Mrs. Xavier.
Watching him, she bit her lip and instinctively took two steps forward, wanting to be closer. He seemed like such a proper gentleman, yet so cold and aloof, carrying the air of a superior who was not to be approached.
Does he ever smile? Is he this cold in bed, too? Is he as skilled in *that* department as he is at handling his work?
As Aurora’s mind wandered, her gaze drifted downward. A heat bloomed within her as she began to fantasize about kissing him, sitting on his lap, and doing the most intimate, ambiguous things. Thinking this, she couldn’t help but take another step closer.
Donovan smelled her overpowering perfume and let out a few short coughs. He raised his eyes and glanced at her. "Why haven’t you left yet?"
His tone was frigid, devoid of any warmth, like an icy pond.
"I... I..." Aurora stammered, momentarily tongue-tied. She didn’t want to leave. She wanted to look at him for a while longer.
She knew she was beautiful, with a great figure and a captivating mix of innocence and allure. Plenty of men at the company secretly had a crush on her and made their interest known. But she had always had high standards and looked down on ordinary men. The man before her, however, was exceptional in both wealth and appearance. Only he was worthy of her.
Today, she was wearing a white silk blouse with a bow at the collar, paired with a champagne-colored, form-fitting pencil skirt that showed off her long legs.
After a few seconds, Aurora clenched her fists as if she had made a decision. She slowly walked forward in her high heels.
Donovan’s gaze turned glacial. His voice was heavy with authority, though he wasn’t shouting. "I told you to leave!"
Aurora feigned ignorance. She reached out, her fingertips lightly brushing his shoulder as she cooed, "Mr. Xavier..."
A wave of nausea washed over Donovan. He raised his hand and shoved her away without a shred of mercy. "Get lost!"
She stumbled into the hard corner of the desk, crying out from the sharp pain. Her eyes filled with tears, a pitiful sight. "Mr. Xavier, it hurts..."
Donovan’s gaze was arctic, like the slice of a blade. "Get out!" he commanded. "Who hired you? As of now, you’re fired!"
Aurora didn’t give up. She moved forward again, trying to fall into his arms.
Donovan stood and forcefully threw her aside. She crashed hard onto the floor, scraping her knee and finding it difficult to stand up.
Aurora fought through the pain. Her graceful figure trembled as she wept pitifully. "Mr. Xavier, I... I really like you. Can you give me a chance?" she pleaded. "Mr. Xavier, I’m still a virgin... No one has ever touched me."
She was confident in her body. She was certain that once a man touched her, he’d be driven mad with pleasure. If she could win him over, her status would skyrocket. She could enjoy a life of luxury and never have to toil away miserably at the company again!
Getting up, Aurora bit her red lip, her beautiful face streaked with tears, making her appear even more innocent. "Mr. Xavier, please don’t reject me, okay? I’ll be very obedient. I’ll be sure to take very good care of you."
Donovan felt nothing but utter revulsion. His stomach churned, and he felt the urge to vomit. Leaning against the desk, he looked down on her from a position of power, his voice as cold as if it were laced with poison. "I’ll say this one last time. Get out now, and you’ll only be fired. Otherwise, I will make sure you have no future left in all of Kryton!"
Aurora didn’t back down. She advanced step by step. "Mr. Xavier, you sound so fierce. Are you this fierce in bed, too?"
She reached for him again, and Donovan shoved her away just as harshly. His entire aura turned menacingly dark as he enunciated each word. "I have a rule against hitting women! Now get out! What makes you think you’re worthy of climbing into my bed?!"
Who the hell hired her?!
The woman slammed into the cold wall and began to cry softly, refusing to leave despite the pain.
Donovan’s eyes grew particularly grim, his rage so palpable it felt murderous. He stepped forward, grabbed her arm, and prepared to throw her out of the room.
Seizing the opportunity, Aurora moved with surprising speed, lunging straight at him.
CLICK.
"Honey, I came to see you!"
The door suddenly swung open, and Chloe Preston peeked her head in, a smile on her lips as she blinked her crystal-clear eyes.
"Honey, what are you doing?"
The next second, she saw the scene before her and froze. The insulated container in her hand fell to the floor with a CLANG.
Aurora was clinging tightly to Donovan’s arm, her silk blouse unbuttoned, and her tears smearing his shirt. "Mr. Xavier, Aurora likes you! Please don’t push me away, okay?"
Disgusted, Donovan violently flung her off. The woman once again fell heavily to the ground, seemingly twisting her ankle. The pain was excruciating.
"You dare touch me?" he snarled.
"Mr. Xavier..." Aurora bit her lip, her expression one of tearful grievance.
Donovan looked up, his eyes meeting Chloe Preston’s.
"Chloe..." he began, stepping toward her. "Why did you come so suddenly? Why didn’t you tell me beforehand?"
"Don’t you come near me!" Chloe shouted, pointing a trembling finger at the woman on the floor. Her eyes reddened instantly. "Who is she? What were you two doing?" Her voice quivered with accusation.
Donovan knew she had misunderstood. He stepped forward again and took her cold hand, patiently trying to explain. "Chloe, it’s not what you think. There’s nothing going on between her and me."
Chloe yanked her hand away, a mist forming in her eyes. Her voice was unsteady. "Really? Or did I just have bad timing and interrupt your fun?"
As she spoke, her gaze fell upon the woman on the floor. Her silk blouse had come undone, offering a tantalizing glimpse of what was beneath. Seeing that, Chloe’s tears finally broke free and streamed down her face. She looked at the man before her, her heart aching with each beat.
She said nothing more. She raised a hand to wipe away her tears, gave him one last, red-eyed look, then turned and walked out without a single glance back. Her retreating figure was sharp and resolute.
Donovan panicked.
This is bad. This is really bad. My Chloe must think I’ve betrayed her. I’ve only had a few days of peace and happiness, and now this woman is going to ruin everything!
Just then, Liam Keane walked in from outside holding a document. "Mr. Xavier," he said gravely, "this file needs your urgent signature." He paused. "By the way, I just saw Mrs. Xavier run out crying. Did you..."
Before he could finish, Donovan was already out the door, desperate to chase after her. He took one step, then stopped and turned back to Liam. "Tell me, who hired that woman?" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Liam glanced at Aurora on the floor. "I did."
"You!" Donovan gritted his teeth, suppressing his fury. "Throw her out! And make sure she disappears from Kryton within two days!"
Liam stared. "Huh?"
"And you," Donovan added, "you’re losing six months’ pay!"
"What?!" Liam yelped. "Mr. Xavier, what did I do wrong?"
But the man was already gone, running down the hall.
Chloe Preston walked on, biting her lip, her eyes red as she fought to hold back her sobs. Employees passing by cast curious glances in her direction.
The next moment, a large, well-defined hand clamped down on her wrist.
Chloe knew who it was. She struggled. "Let... Let go!"
Donovan wrapped his arms around her from behind, holding her hands tightly. He rested his chin in the crook of her neck, pressing soft kisses there. "Chloe, Chloe..." he murmured, his voice a tender caress meant to soothe her.
Chloe’s lips pressed into a thin line, but her resolve crumbled. Tears she couldn’t control fell onto the back of his hand. A sob escaped her throat. "Donovan Xavier, how could you do this to me?" she cried. "I’m carrying your child! I came all this way to bring you soup, and this is how you repay me?! I’m done with you! I... I want a divorce!"
Donovan’s brow furrowed in alarm. "That’s not happening! We only got married a few days ago," he said, his voice urgent. "Baby, please calm down. It’s really not what you think!"
