Chapter 141: Chapter 141: I Can’t Bear to Leave You

"Husband."

Chloe Preston’s slender, porcelain-white hands gently pressed against his strong chest, her heart beginning to race.

"I can’t get enough of hearing it. Be a good girl, Chloe, say it again."

Donovan Xavier leaned over and pinned her down, his hands planted on either side of her as he carefully restrained himself from touching her belly.

"Husband, husband, husb... mm..."

He kissed her again, sweeping through her defenses with abandon.

Chloe Preston was forced to endure.

Before long, he had taken off her dress, leaving her completely bare. The cold air made her shiver. The lights overhead were bright and dazzlingly harsh.

Chloe Preston turned her head away, avoiding his gaze. "Ahem, don’t keep staring at me."

"You’re beautiful."

Donovan Xavier lowered his head, kissing her forehead, her cheeks, and then her ear, his voice growing hoarse. "My Chloe is so beautiful like this."

Chloe Preston blushed.

"Baby, don’t be nervous. Relax. Give yourself to me."

「Ten thousand words are omitted here.」

An unknown amount of time passed. The sky outside the floor-to-ceiling windows had grown gloomy, and before long, rain began to pour. The wind howled and thunder occasionally boomed, its RUMBLING masking the warmth in the room.

Perhaps it had been too long. At first, Chloe Preston couldn’t take it, feeling a sharp pain.

He was gentle enough, mindful of her pregnancy, and held back from being too rough.

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

Suddenly, a soft knock came from the door.

Both of them froze.

Who the hell would be so tactless as to interrupt him at a time like this!

Within seconds, Liam Keane’s trembling voice came from outside. "Mr. Xavier?"

"Mr. Xavier, what are you doing?"

Sweat beaded on Donovan Xavier’s forehead, his back covered in red slashes from her nails. "Get lost!" he roared.

There were a few seconds of silence before Liam Keane spoke again. "Mr. Xavier, I..."

Before he could continue, Donovan Xavier gripped the woman’s hand beneath him and snapped impatiently, "Get the hell out! I’m busy right now!"

"Don’t bother me, or I’ll dock your pay again!"

After a few dozen seconds of silence, Liam Keane’s cautious voice came through the door again. "Mr. Xavier, I... I really don’t want to disturb you, but have you forgotten? You still have two meetings to get to!"

"Mr. Xavier, the shareholders are all waiting for you in the boardroom. Since you hadn’t arrived, they sent me to come get you!"

He had completely forgotten about that.

But he wasn’t finished yet. He had only had a small taste, and she was so enchanting. How could he possibly bear to let her go just like that?

Donovan Xavier paused, then said, "Tell them the meeting is postponed until tomorrow!"

"That’s not possible!" Liam Keane said anxiously from outside. "You know how important this meeting is. Many things have to be finalized right now; we can’t put it off until tomorrow!

"Besides, you have meetings tomorrow as well. You’ve also scheduled a talk with Director Sawyer from Vantage Corp about the partnership. There’s no extra time to squeeze it in."

Donovan Xavier fell silent.

Liam Keane knocked again. "Mr... Mr. Xavier, you can’t let beauty make you neglect your duties!"

Donovan Xavier, "..."

Outside, the downpour only intensified. The wind rustled the leaves while raindrops beat against the windowpane with a steady PIT-A-PAT.

Chloe Preston heard their exchange and gently tugged on his large hand, her voice a hoarse whisper. "You should go to the meeting."

"But..." Donovan Xavier leaned in, brushing the tip of his nose against her flushed cheek. "I can’t bear to leave you," he said in a low voice.

Chloe Preston offered a faint smile. "I’ll be right here; I’m not going anywhere. There’s nothing to be reluctant about."

"Go on. Everyone is waiting for you."

"I don’t want to go. I just want to stay with you," Donovan Xavier said.

Chloe Preston raised a hand to pat his head. "Why are you acting like a child? Stop fooling around. You’re the boss; the entire company is waiting for your decisions!"

"Go on, darling. I’ll wait right here for you, okay?"

Outside, Liam Keane risked death to urge him on. "Mr. Xavier, please hurry up! If you keep them waiting any longer, the shareholders are going to start complaining!"

Instead of getting up, Donovan Xavier held her pinned, lowered his head, and intertwined his fingers with hers, kissing her deeply. "Just half an hour more. Only half an hour, and then I’ll go to the meeting."

"Be a good girl. Don’t keep trying to push me away."

Helpless, Chloe Preston could only surrender to him.

And so, another long while passed.

Outside, the rain had lightened to a drizzle, but it hadn’t stopped. Dusk had already fallen.

Chloe Preston, who had fallen asleep from exhaustion, stirred on the large, soft sofa. Her brow smoothed as she slowly opened her eyes.

She glanced around. He was gone.

His expensive suit jacket was draped over her, along with a thin, warm blanket.

Chloe Preston rubbed her sleepy eyes and casually tidied her messy hair before getting up from the sofa.

Hiss—it hurt.

Her whole body ached as if it had been run over by a truck, on the verge of falling apart.

Chloe Preston nearly stumbled. She picked up her clothes from the floor and put them on one by one. Her pale face was downcast, and she looked completely drained of energy.

She looked as if she had been drained of her life force by a malevolent spirit.

Chloe Preston touched her warm belly and walked with light steps to the man’s desk.

She sat in the executive chair and rubbed her lower back. The desk was piled high with all sorts of documents, forming a small mountain. Just looking at it was exhausting.

So this is how much work he has to do every day. It must be so hard.

Chloe Preston casually flipped through a few files, helping him sort them into categories. Beside them was a photo frame.

She picked it up and saw that it was a picture of her—the same one he kept in his study at home.

Chloe Preston caressed the frame, her eyes softening with tenderness.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a notification. It was a message from her dad.

Wyatt Quinn: [Sweet daughter, can you come home for dinner tomorrow? Dad misses you.]

Chloe Preston stared at it indifferently before replying: [I can’t. I’m busy.]

This man usually ignored her and never gave her a second thought. How could he possibly miss her now?

He replied in seconds: [Just come back for a visit. Dad is lonely by himself.]

[Sweet daughter, have you forgotten what tomorrow is?]
