The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 67: Let’s Have Some Fun
A thought struck Vera Xavier, and she immediately pushed the door open. She froze on the spot. Her room had been completely ransacked, and the clothes that were once neatly packed in her trunk had been pulled out and thrown around.
All the clothes and shoes Nathaniel Nathan had given her were gone. Her old clothes were tossed on the bed. The zippers on the trunk had all been opened, and it looked as if every single crevice had been meticulously searched.
Vera Xavier took a deep breath and lifted up her bed. The items she kept underneath were also in disarray. Fortunately, the stone was still there. She let out a sigh of relief.
As long as the stone was still there, nothing else was a big deal.
She had always been poor and never had much money. She kept the money Zachary Preston had given her in her backpack, carrying it with her at all times. Otherwise, it would have surely been taken.
She glanced into Cara Preston’s room next door—it was untouched. Then, she went downstairs and peeked into Zachary Preston and Rona Langdon’s room, which was also perfectly fine.
And the refrigerator, television, and washing machine were all still there, untouched.
In the Preston Family, she was the poorest one with the smallest room. A real thief would never have targeted only her room.
Once Vera Xavier put the pieces together, she fixed her gaze on Rona Langdon’s room. She activated her Superpower—X-ray vision—and clearly saw the clothes and shoes from Nathaniel Nathan, neatly arranged inside a closet.
Vera Xavier sneered. ’With Zachary Preston away, Rona Langdon’s starting to cause trouble.’
’Fine. If Rona Langdon wants to play games that badly, I’ll be happy to play along!’
After a moment’s thought, Vera Xavier went straight to the first floor and began to ransack the place. Then, feigning panic, she screamed, "Help! We’ve been robbed!"
Grandma Dixon, who lived next door, heard her shout and came out. "Vera, what’s wrong?" she asked.
With a look of pure panic, Vera Xavier said, "Grandma Dixon, our house was robbed! When I first came in, I saw the kitchen was a mess, but I just thought my mom hadn’t cleaned up, so I didn’t think much of it. But then I went to my room and found the door had been pried open! My room was turned upside down, and my clothes are all over the floor."
"Do you know if anything was stolen?" Grandma Dixon asked.
"I’m not sure of all the details," Vera Xavier said, wiping at her eyes. "But all the new clothes and shoes my cousin sent me just yesterday are gone!"
A few more neighbors ran out to ask what was happening, and Vera Xavier quickly explained the situation.
They were instantly up in arms. While public safety in Crestfall hadn’t been great in recent years, there had never been any major incidents. A thief breaking into their residential compound was something they couldn’t tolerate.
They immediately helped Vera Xavier report the crime and made sure to secure the scene.
The police station wasn’t far from the compound, so officers arrived quickly. Vera Xavier repeated the same story she had told Grandma Dixon.
The officers diligently took her statement, photographed the scene for evidence, and then began to question her about the specific details.
Vera Xavier answered their questions in detail. After surveying the scene, the officers also found it strange. Aside from Vera Xavier’s belongings, nothing else in the Preston home had been touched.
By this time, it was after work hours, so all the residents were home. A large crowd had gathered outside the Preston house, packed several layers deep, all of them discussing the burglary.
No matter the era, people always found the scene of a burglary to be an interesting spectacle.
