Chapter 372: Chapter 369: Waves

It took several minutes before Elliana Lyle heard the sound of a car stopping right where they had just rested.

A group of people got out of the car, looked at the trampled shrubs and the footprints on the soft roadside soil, and concluded the direction they had gone.

The leader ordered, "Search," and a group of armed people rushed into the woods.

...

"Sister Joy... I... I don’t think I can make it." Elliana was running out of energy, quickly pulled out the phone Eleanor gave her from her chest, and gasped, "Sister Joy, you go... go to the signal tower, don’t... don’t worry about me."

She realized now that she couldn’t escape, and instead of dragging down Sister Joy with her, making it impossible for anyone to leave, it was better to stay behind and buy time for Sister Joy.

Even if only one of them escaped, it would be worth it.

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Joy Lyle was a bit upset after hearing this, then crouched down in front of her and commanded, "Get on."

"I..." Before she could finish her words, they could already hear the sounds of searching coming from not far away.

Joy Lyle lifted her onto her back and started running forward, not knowing where the path led, but having no choice but to run ahead.

A few minutes later, she felt her energy somewhat restored, perhaps due to her survival instincts, making her feel noticeably better.

Quickly she said, "Sister Joy, put me down, let’s run together."

After more than an hour of fleeing, they heard the sound of waves, seemingly just ahead.

By now, the searchers were scouring the area for their traces.

Elliana had only two words in her mind: run and fear. She wanted to escape, to go home, to find someone to save the people here.

"Sister Joy, is there a sea ahead?"

They had stopped by now. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

If there was a sea ahead, how could they escape? Though they hadn’t seen the sea, despair swept over them like waves.

After hesitating for a few seconds, Joy Lyle pulled her forward again, not giving up despite knowing the sea lay ahead.

But when they reached the so-called "seaside," it was even more despairing.

About ten meters ahead of them, there was a cliff, and beneath it presumably lay the sea.

Joy Lyle wasn’t too surprised they had ended up at a cliff as she had felt they were heading higher all along.

She thought there might be a path leading down the mountain ahead, but she anticipated it after hearing the waves.

Both were panting heavily. Even though Elliana was terrified, she had no intention to cry now; what use would crying be?

The pursuers were closing in, and while the sounds were faint, it felt as though they were shouting right in their ears. Looking back, there was nothing to be seen.

They exchanged glances, and Sister Joy reached out to ruffle her hair, causing her to feel an urge to cry. She plunged into Sister Joy’s arms, silently letting the tears flow.

"Elliana, don’t be afraid, as long as we’re alive, there’s hope." This was the last comfort Joy Lyle could offer.

Five to six minutes later, the island’s pursuers arrived near the cliff, and all they saw was the wind blowing over the cliff.

"They sure can run!" A tall man holding a weapon couldn’t help but spit on the ground.

The leader looked around, frowned, and said, "Search the surrounding area carefully."

"Yes."

After another ten minutes or so, most returned to the cliff to report, their faces downcast as they had found nothing.
