The Cheeky Junior Gal Becomes Too Cute When She Gets Attached to Me-Chapter 4Volume 1 .1 - Capable Juniors
Chapter 4: Capable Juniors
“…Hey, Monaka.”
“Mmm?”
“What are you doing?”
It is the day after an incident occurred between Kawana and Monaka.
As expected, Monaka had not failed to come to the Student Council room. She was here again today.
However, what was different was her attire.
She was dressed in a mask, bandana, and apron, looking as though she was ready for a cooking class, yet in her hand was a dust rag.
“I’m cleaning.”
“Starting the big clean-up early? It’s almost the end of the year after all.”
“No, that’s not it. I’m just doing the usual cleaning of the Student Council room.”
“You’ve never done that befo…”
“Ah, don’t go spreading that around!”
It wasn’t just Monaka who was different today. Kawana had also come right after school.
While glancing at Kawana’s face, Monaka continued to wipe down desks and shelves.
“I’m a hard worker, you know~ I take the initiative to clean and stuff~ After all, I’m the kind of person who’s needed in the Student Council~”
It seemed like an appeal… to Kawana, I guess.
She must have thought hard about what she could do.
After all, she was treated like an unnecessary person yesterday.
It was likely a strategy to get recognized by Kawana.
“President, about the list of supplies for the Christmas event…”
“Oh, I’ve already compiled that yesterday.”
“As expected. It looks like there won’t be any issues with the budget either. Since the event originally started with sponsorship from a toy manufacturer, we’ll only need to buy consumables and food.”
The rough direction was decided yesterday, so today’s discussion was to iron out the details.
…while ignoring Monaka, Kawana continued to talk to me.
Even though she was being ignored, Monaka didn’t give up and tried to join the conversation with “I’ll carry the supplies! I know a lot about sweets!”
It was a bit pitiful.
“So, the real challenge is publicity, isn’t it?”
“Yeah. Back when I was Vice President… I think it was around September? I had a word with the local elementary schools and children’s associations. They should know since it’s an annual event.”
“We’re also behind on the flyers, and surprisingly short on time.”
“It’s hectic because it’s right after the new administration took over. Well, it’s always a rush no matter the event.”
The Student Council has only a one-year term, and the members change every year, so there’s often a lot of groping in the dark.
I wondered if we had been too complacent, but somehow things always seem to work out fine.
The Christmas event also had a certain number of regular attendees, like the local children’s association, so we could expect to secure a decent turnout.
“Since we don’t have flyers… shall we start making visits today?”
“I thought you’d say that, so I’ve already made appointments.”
“President is so competent it’s almost creepy.”
“If you’re going to praise me, could you do it more honestly, please?”
Fuhaha, I got praised by my junior.
As expected, it never hurts to show off your competence.
“Let’s go before it gets cold.”
Kawana put on a down jacket and took only the most essential items with her.
It’s not even night yet, so I don’t think such a thick down jacket is necessary. Maybe she’s just sensitive to the cold.
“Ugh… I’m such a useless girl…”
Ignored for so long, Monaka sulked in the corner of the room.
“I’ll just stay here quietly and look after the place…”

“What are you doing? Please get ready quickly.”
“Ah?”
Then Kawana invited Monaka along as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Monaka looked at Kawana with a puzzled expression.
“Aren’t you coming? Your only redeeming feature is your ability to talk, so when do you plan to work if not now?”
“…Is it okay for me to go?”
“I’d feel more uneasy leaving you alone in the Student Council room.”
“I won’t mess it up!?”
Monaka’s mood improved instantly, and she hurriedly got ready, lining up beside Kawana.
I followed behind them with a grin on my face.
“President, it’s pretty creepy to stare at girls from behind.”
“Senpai, maybe you don’t need to come?”
The two of them turned around in perfect sync.
“Can I cry?”
Kawana might not have fully accepted Monaka yet, but I was happy to see her making a little effort to reach out.
Maybe Monaka’s annoying persistence had an effect… Even if she’s treated roughly, she manages to worm her way into her heart.
Deep down, Kawana doesn’t really want to dislike anyone.
That’s why she’s trying to figure out Monaka. To see if she’s really as bad as her image suggests.

After leaving school, we visited the places we had appointments with.
Today’s main goal wasn’t to attract people but to greet them.
Since the event involves children, it’s important for the organizers to show their faces.
So, the main purpose was to lay the groundwork with the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) president and the elementary school principal.
Personally, I find this kind of groundwork tedious and not to my liking… But human relationships don’t operate on logic alone.
The title of Student Council President exists for times like this, so I guess I have to do my part.
…That’s what I thought, but things took an unexpected turn.
“Eh~, is it really okay to be treated to so much? Wow, this dorayaki is incredibly delicious!”
Ooba Monaka was becoming quite a favorite with the PTA president’s grandfather.
Every time Monaka happily stuffed her cheeks with cake on the sofa, the grandfather’s cheeks would also soften.
“The rice crackers are the best too! After eating something sweet, you crave something salty, right~?”
“There’s plenty more where that came from.”
“Eh, is that okay? Thank you very much!”
She looked no different from a grandchild visiting their grandfather’s house.
Standing behind her, Kawana and I exchanged glances while communicating silently through eye contact.
Should we stop this…?
We were supposed to be here for a greeting, but we’re being entertained instead.
When we came last year, the greetings were more solemn… like, “We humbly ask for your favor again this year…”
But it’s true that the conversation is going smoothly, so it’s hard to interrupt.
Kawana seemed to make the same judgment, silently observing how things would unfold.
