The Cheeky Junior Gal Becomes Too Cute When She Gets Attached to Me-Chapter 5Volume 1 .3 - Date with Junior Gal
Date with Junior Gal
“Look, this gajumaru is so cute.”
Monaka casually picked up a palm-sized potted plant.
The plant inside was a gajumaru, a foliage plant with a twisted, characteristic trunk.
“The name itself is cute, isn’t it? Gajugaju~”
“Don’t name it when you haven’t bought it.”
“Then let’s buy it and put it in the Student Council room. A cactus would be fine, too.”
“I’m the one who’s going to take care of it, huh?”
“That’s what Mom said when I wanted a pet.”
Monaka chuckled as if amused by something.
A foliage plant, huh… I like looking at them, but I can only imagine it withering away if we put it in the Student Council room.
It’s usually closed up, and especially during long holidays, no one goes in there.
The sunlight isn’t great either. It’s probably the worst environment for a plant.
“Do you know? Gajumaru trees can ‘walk’.”
“Walk?”
“Yeah. They send down thick roots from their branches to the ground and create a trunk in a different place. As the old trunk dies, a new one forms. Over the years, they keep moving by repeating this process.”
“Nature is amazing.”
Monaka’s eyes widened, and she clapped her hands.
It was a sloppy reaction, but I was quite satisfied to have shared my knowledge.
…Wait, is this like entertaining a client?
It was as if I were a salaryman having a young person listen to my stories.
“Ugh… I can see my future… ”
“Why are you getting down by yourself? Your future with me is bright!”
Monaka gave me a thumbs up, trying to cheer me up.
“Ah, look, a planetarium! Let’s put that in the Student Council room.”
“We can’t make it that dark in there.”
The street lamps and the fluorescent lights in the hallway seep in even at night with the lights off.
It’s hard to say you could fully enjoy such a situation.
Monaka put the planetarium box down with a dissatisfied grunt.
Next, she pointed to a large cushion. The kind that makes people unproductive.
“How about this then? If we had this in the Student Council room, it would be great for napping.”
“What do you think the Student Council room is for?”
“A wonderful space where I can meet my senpai?”
“Whoa, you’ve got a big misunderstanding there… That place is for engaging in penal labor. Slack off, and you get whipped.”
“Was it really such a dangerous place!?”
“Well, it’s a joke, but don’t go coordinating the Student Council room on your own. You’ll get in trouble with Kawana.”
“I don’t want to get scolded by Matsurin…”
“So, it’s okay to get scolded by me?”
Even though we’ve been using it quite freely, it’s still officially a school facility.
Besides, Kawana and the other Student Council members are also around.
We can’t just add unnecessary things without asking them.
“By the way, were you that interested in the interior of the Student Council room?”
“Hmm, that too, but… since it’s a special date, I wanted to buy something memorable. Something we can both use.”
Monaka bent down slightly to look at a glass cup.
The colorful glass reflected the light, adding sparkle to Monaka’s eyes.
“Is it no good?”
Her eyes shone vividly but seemed a bit moist.
“…You’re just pretending to be down again, aren’t you? I won’t be fooled so easily.”
“Tsk. And here I thought it was your weakness.”
“That’s something you need to save for the right moment. That’s when it’s most effective.”
“I’ll take that as a lesson!”
That being said, both her earlier melancholic expression and her current carefree smile were cute.
Monaka’s interest shifted to the next shelf, and she began to walk with her arms folded behind her.
I casually looked at the products and followed behind her.
“By the way, how did the flyer distribution go?”
“It was super popular with both the teachers and the kids!”
“That’s great. It must be thanks to Kawana’s illustrations.”
“Right… eh? What about me?”
“Monaka, weren’t you more of a hindrance?”
“That’s harsh, I was just trying to be supportive.”
It’s like the saying, ‘After the rain, the ground hardens.’
Any animosity was fleeting, and Monaka and Kawana had become quite friendly.
Well, it was mostly Monaka pestering and Kawana dealing with her in her own way.
They made flyers together cheerfully, and they distributed them without me.
Apparently, I wasn’t needed…
The flyers turned out really well, with a design that conveyed a fun atmosphere.
“Matsurin even said that it’s good that Monaka-san is so energetic!”
“That’s definitely sarcasm.”
“Not at all. We get along well. With the power of me and Matsurin, the event is sure to be a huge success.”
“We also need to make a list of participants… There’s so much to do besides distributing flyers. It’s giving me a headache.”
“That’s tough. Then I’ll be cheering you on.”
“You’re still useless, huh. It’s okay because we have Kawana.”
Even just helping with the greetings and handing out flyers was a huge help, but I’ll refrain from praising her since it might get to her head.
The Christmas event is in early December, so there’s no time to relax.
Especially the preparations on the eve are tough. I have to hold a briefing for the volunteers too.
While I was thinking about work, Monaka pinched my arm with a sullen expression.
“Hey, your date is getting bored~”
“Sorry.”
I’m not sure if it’s really a date, but this is the first time I’ve gone shopping alone with a girl, and I have no idea if I’m doing it right.
We’re just window shopping.
Just talking while looking at knick-knacks. Not particularly buying anything, nor do we want anything.
I wonder if she’s actually enjoying this.
“Bored?”
As I was pondering this, Monaka peered into my face.
“…No, it’s fun.”
“Liar. You look bored.”
Monaka puffed up her cheeks.
I think Monaka is really observant.
She notices even the slightest changes in me and speaks up right away. It’s not something easily done.
“I thought I had a good poker face.”
“Hehe, it’s the power of my love for Senpai.”
With a strange turn of phrase and her hands on her hips, Monaka made a smug face.
“…Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I’m bored with you, Monaka. It’s just that I’ve never aimlessly wandered around stores before, so I don’t know how to enjoy it. And… I’m not sure if you are having fun with this, Monaka.”
“Eh, Chikapai the tsundere is being honest and dere…!?”
“Shut up…”
Being teased made me feel even more embarrassed. My cheeks were burning hot.
This is what I get for trying to be a bit honest…
As if it wasn’t embarrassing enough to openly admit my lack of dating experience.
“No-no! You can be more dere!”
“I’m not tsundere, and I’m not being dere now.”
“Sure, sure~. You love me and you know it.”
“That’s not true.”
“Wow, serious tone.”
Annoying… I shouldn’t have let her get carried away.
It’s ridiculous how I was pointlessly worrying about her. I didn’t need to think about entertaining Monaka in the first place.

She seems to have fun on her own anyway.
