The City's Strongest Son-in-law-Chapter 1043 - 1042: The Temptation of Money
"You dirty whore, what are you pretending for in front of me, huh? I want you to come over right now, dare you refuse?" the young man shouted in a fit of rage.
Sun Wan felt a bit flustered because times have changed; she couldn’t afford to offend this man now. She was well aware of why she was summoned to Century Garden—it was nothing but a setup to humiliate Zhou Haiwen through her.
"Get to Fuman Building immediately. If you can make it in fifteen minutes, I’ll reward you with a hundred thousand," the young man said with a boastful air.
"Okay, okay, I’m heading over right now." The moment Sun Wan heard the money, she stopped hesitating and hastily agreed. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
After ending the call, the young man said sarcastically, "She’s really a money-hungry woman, willing to do anything for cash. But I must say, Sun Wan’s body is something else. If you guys want, have some fun later."
Hearing this, the others couldn’t help but smirk, as if they had some plan in mind.
After all, Zhou Haiwen was an experienced man. Just seeing their smiles, he could tell what kind of sleazy ideas they had. But he felt no sympathy for Sun Wan; even though they used to be in a relationship, he couldn’t find it in his heart to feel for her, because this was her own doing.
"Zhou Haiwen, I just bought these shoes, and they’re dirty. If you’re willing to kneel and lick them clean, I’ll reward you with a hundred thousand. What do you think?" the man said to Zhou Haiwen.
Zhou Haiwen was an ambitious and dignified person. He could accept the bankruptcy of his company now because he believed he had the opportunity to start over. If it was merely poor management and the company’s bankruptcy, it would have crushed his spirit long ago. By now, he’d probably be an unemployed wanderer in some alley, nowhere near working at Century Garden.
For most people, the drastic rises and falls in life might lead to tragic ends, but not for Zhou Haiwen. This showed he had quite a strong character.
Even though he’s a bankrupt businessman now, he could accept such a status disparity. But it didn’t mean he could accept humiliation from others.
Even though the hundred thousand was very tempting to him now, it didn’t mean he was willing to grovel for it.
"I won’t do it, nor do I want your money," Zhou Haiwen replied calmly.
The young man, seeing Zhou Haiwen’s attitude, felt even more displeased and threatened, "Zhou Haiwen, who do you think you are now? Dare to refuse me? Let me tell you, if you don’t lick my shoes clean today, I’ll make sure you’re a complete bum, no chance of survival in Bin County."
"Ha, who do you think you are? Chen Hai or Peng Xiaolei?" replied Zhou Haiwen. Although Bin County’s area is limited, the main handlers are Chen Hai and Peng Xiaolei; but Zhou Haiwen at Century Garden naturally wouldn’t know that Peng Xiaolei had already been taken down.
Even though these people were being arrogant in front of Zhou Haiwen, they didn’t have the guts to compare themselves to Shen Hai or Peng Xiaolei. If someone overheard and spread it around, they’d be in a lot of trouble, likely worse off than Zhou Haiwen’s current state, especially if Peng Xiaolei found out—they’d be doomed.
Peng Xiaolei was the Demon Lord of Mayhem in Bin County. After Chen Hai left, everything in Bin County was managed by him. They dared not to provoke him, let alone compare themselves to him. Even mentioning his name needed to be done quietly.
"Zhou Haiwen, damn you!" The young man shot up from his chair, booted Zhou Haiwen in the chest, and yelled, "You punk, think you can play me?"
Zhou Haiwen, caught off guard, was kicked to the ground, instinctively clutching his chest.
In a corner of Century Garden, two young men stood, with one wearing a white shirt.
It was Su Changfeng. Upon seeing the scene, he furrowed his brows slightly.
Standing behind Su Changfeng was Peng Xiaolei’s assistant, who spoke up, "These people all had some connection with Zhou Haiwen, some even flattered him often. Who would’ve thought, now that Zhou Haiwen’s company is bankrupt, they’d not offer a hand but rather kick him while he’s down."
"Indeed, as the saying goes, when the wall falls, everyone gives it a shove. Now that Zhou Haiwen’s company is bankrupt and there’s no benefit to be gained, they see he’s down and naturally want to kick him for their show," remarked Su Changfeng. In today’s society, most people care only about profit; even long-time friends might be quietly waiting for your downfall.
The assistant behind Su Changfeng felt a chill in his heart upon hearing this. He had been quite overbearing following Peng Xiaolei, offending many. Now that Peng Xiaolei had been taken care of, if his enemies found out, they’d surely come for revenge, and his ending might be worse than Zhou Haiwen’s.
Just then, a highly alluring woman swayed into Huaman Building.
This woman looked a lot like a flirtatious type, wearing strong perfume, and though it was mid-winter, she had very little on.
"Didn’t expect that after so long, Sun Wan would change so much." Su Changfeng lifted his gaze towards Sun Wan, saying calmly.
In Su Changfeng’s perspective, it made sense for Sun Wan to dress this way. She’d lost Zhou Haiwen as a support, which meant no backing and no money. Now, by dressing so provocatively, she hoped to seize the chance to find someone to rely on.
But Sun Wan had no self-awareness; right now, in Bin County, she’s just a scorned woman. Which man would want a woman like that?
Most men would just toy with her and discard her at any time.
"Sun Wan, you’re late. Are you saying you don’t want the money?"
The young man frowned at Sun Wan, his dissatisfaction evident.
Sun Wan wasn’t upset upon hearing this; she walked over to the man, smiling as she said, "I was afraid you’d get impatient, so I rushed over by taxi right after hanging up."
To provoke Zhou Haiwen, the young man immediately embraced Sun Wan, leering as he said, "You weren’t wearing this much last night; hurry up and take it off!"
