The Creatures That We Are-Chapter 1183: Dad
Chapter 1183: Dad
Most of Dead Pig’s body and organs had been digested. Under the horrid ribcage, the beating heart protected by his energy pathway began to melt away.
Sorry, Lovely Lamb, Dad shouldn’t underestimate you.
Like your mom, you’re a brave fighter. You don’t need anyone’s protection.
You’ll live. You’ll see the real dawn and enter the future.
Mom and Dad...will watch over you forever.
Dead Pig opened his mouth, but couldn’t make a sound.
Dad...loves Little Ba and Little Lamb...
His half-skeletal face arranged into a smile, and finally, he let go of the girl’s hand, knowing it would be alright.
Without Damage Transfer slowing his rotting process, the remainder of his body quickly melted into the absolute darkness. Meanwhile, Lovely Lamb floated in the opposite direction, the deterioration of her body halting.
Brilliant golden light flickered. She looked like a butterfly about to break out of the cocoon. When the damage stored in her reached the limit, it would transfer out automatically; if there was no target to take the damage, she would explode.
Lovely Lamb’s Damage Transfer could target a different creature. Since she was inside Gluttony, the death monster should theoretically become the target.
At the brink of death, Dead Pig thought of the possibility and decided to make the bet. Instead of having his girl die thirty seconds after him, it would be better to turn the damage he suffered into Lovely Lamb’s weapon, giving her a fighting chance.
He placed absolute trust in his daughter and companions, just like he had trusted his dearest love and friend.
Humanity deserved a miracle.
...
Lovely Lamb, about to break out of her cocoon, found herself transported back to the dream she once had. Lying in a crib, a tinier Lovely Lamb couldn’t do anything but wave around her chubby little hands. She wanted to grab the blue and the white cotton upon the blue; she didn’t know they were the distant sky and fluffy clouds.
“Hi!”
A beautiful lady’s face filled her vision. She wore a sun dress and a hat with sunflower patterns. Pinching Lovely Lamb’s chubby face, she cooed, “You’re up, Cute Little Ba? Mom’s taken you to the beach! Do you like the ocean?”
“Idiot, she can’t see the ocean from that angle,” said another woman. “She’s only seeing the sky.”
“Haha, right!” The pretty lady wearing a sun hat looked at her with bright crinkling eyes. “Cute Little Ba, I’m your mom, Ba Qiuchi. This is your old auntie...”
“Hey!”
“Haha, this is Auntie Liu.”
“Although you’re still tiny, I know you’re as bright as Mom and will remember me.”
“Oh, you’re pouting. What does that mean? Do you want to see your dad?”
“Your dad isn’t here, but Mom has a picture of him. I’ll show you...”
The woman took out a small printed photo. She was on the left, and a man was on the right. Unfortunately, Lovely Lamb couldn’t have a clear look because of the glare. She tried really hard to memorize Dad, but couldn’t.
She wailed.
“Oh, why are you crying all of a sudden?” The woman panicked.
The other woman scoffed. “Must have been scared by Old Zhu’s ugly mug.”
“Nonsense! Her dad is a bit of a himbo, but not ugly!”
“You should donate your eyes to those who need them.”
Lovely Lamb cried even harder.
“Ahhh, why does she seem so heartbroken? Come on, help me calm her down...”
“Are you the mom or not?”
“I’ve put such beautiful makeup on. I haven’t taken any picture...”
Mom, I can’t see Dad’s face. I can’t see clearly. That’s why I’m sad.
Lovely Lamb wanted to say that, but she couldn’t speak yet. She could only cry.
She was anxious. She knew this was a dream, and she would soon wake up.
Indeed, the blue sky, white clouds, and Mom and her friend all vanished. The dream shattered, and cold darkness flooded her like tidal waves.
She slowly opened her eyes.
Finally, her vision cleared. The blurry figure of a man grew distant in the dark. He smiled at her.
Lovely Lamb knew that it was Uncle Dead Pig.
But for some reason, his smile overlapped with the blurry face she had seen in the picture in the dream.
“Dad,” she called out softly.
—Stored damage reached the limit!
—Damage transferred automatically!
—Damage amplified by tenfold!
...
“Fuck!”
Witnessing the moment Gluttony devoured both Dead Pig and Lovely Lamb, Gregor blurted out a single curse word. It contained all his shock, rage, heartbreak, despair, and helplessness.
“Dammit, I’m gonna kill it!” Losing an arm, Gregor broke out of Mischievous Monkey’s hold and staggered toward the black monster crashing his way.
But his footing suddenly lifted, and when he realized it, a tall stone pillar was already bringing him up to Gluttony’s level.
“Gregor, they haven’t lost!”
Gregor whirled around to see Mischievous Monkey on another stone pillar. It rose higher and higher until he was overlooking the entire market. His gaze was wretched but determined as he shouted, “If you’re not afraid of death, we’ll make the last gamble!”
“I’m not afraid!” Gregor shouted. They were gonna die one way or another. What was the point of fearing their end?
“Alright! I’ll throw you in and buy you as much time as possible.”
Gregor realized what he was suggesting.
“Haha, let’s do it!” Gregor felt his blood boil. He wiped the blood on his lips and stared ahead with blazing eyes. He would make this count.
Mischievous Monkey slowly closed his eyes, gathering his energy.
Three seconds later, he opened his eyes. Golden brown light overflowed while his pupils contracted.
“Ire of Earth Dragon!”
Golden brown energy shot out all across the market, originating from the brands of Earth and Toys he had made while running away from Gluttony. He had intended to use this attack as a last resort; it was now or never.
With a growl, he moved his hands in a taichi pattern and lifted them.
The buildings near the energy pillars toppled as the ground cracked, crumbling into debris and swirling around the energy pillars toward the sky. Dozens of reversed mudfalls took shape and converged at the top of the market, forming bones and veins while even more debris became flesh.
The resulting earth dragons loomed above the market.
It growled and twisted around as it charged at the massive black Pac-Man that was Gluttony. As it whipped past Gregor and Mischievous Monkey, the resulting gust made it felt like a space shuttle had passed through.
“Hop on!”
Mischievous Monkey shouted.
