The Creatures That We Are-Chapter 1197: Enraged
Chapter 1197: Enraged
The moment the golden petals closed, all six wings of light returned to Gao Xinxin. In an instant, the sea of flowers scattered, and the land itself was rendered a haphazard heap of puzzle pieces. The golden lotus alone remained intact.
Gao Yang had made the right call. Had he saved Absolute Barrier for later, he and Qing Ling would have failed to avoid the coming attacks. Even if they managed to dodge one, more would catch them.
It was like jumping rope with a group. Two children swung the rope on two sides, while a child kept hopping in the middle. No matter how agile the hopping child was, sooner or later they would be tripped by the rope.
When jumping rope, though, failure would merely mean ending the game, while they would be sliced into pieces if they failed now.
Within the Absolute Barrier, Qing Ling glanced at Gao Yang’s finger stumps with no surprise. She knew Gao Yang had done it on purpose.
They had discussed thoroughly how they should face Gao Xinxin.
First, they had to confirm the destructive power of her wings of light.
Qing Ling had conducted a test with her Xiu Dao, proving that the wings couldn’t cut a Black Gold weapon, but a Black Gold weapon couldn’t provide an effective defense against the wings, either.
Then Gao Yang shielded his arm with a high-density Golden Armor before touching the energy thread the wing morphed into as they dodged. His fingers ended up sliced off as easily as spring onions.
That proved the terrifying cutting power of the wings. They could most likely cut anything outside of Black Gold and Absolute Barriers.
The wings wouldn’t be that troublesome if they were only sharp. Before his monsterhood awakened, Wang Zikai’s bone stings were already about as fierce as Gao Xinxin’s wings. However, the bone stings were extensions of Wang Zikai’s body, meaning their reach and frequency of uses would be limited; hence, they weren’t that great a threat.
Gao Xinxin’s six wings, however, could be transformed at will into various shapes and moved at a tremendous speed.
Gao Yang and Qing Ling had kept a fifty-meter distance from her and paid full concentration, yet they still needed the help of Time-Space Spirit and Teleportation to avoid the attacks—and only barely. Dodging would be even more difficult from a close range.
Gao Xinxin’s offensive power would be considered middle of the rank among death monsters, and her defense should be lower. She also didn’t have rule-based power that would leave one helpless. However, her movement speed and attack speed were ridiculously high, second only to Waking Insects in the Mist World.
To counter such speed, one would need to be wearing a full set of Black Gold armor without any gap or be wholly Black Gold, or they would die before even making a move.
Gao Yang had never underestimated Gao Xinxin, and he didn’t think he could face her on his own. That was why it had always been the plan for him to confront Gao Xinxin with Qing Ling—otherwise, it would make sense to put them on different teams given they were two of the most powerful fighters on the human side.
Gao Yang quickly came to a decision.
“Done with the test. Plan A.”
“Yeah.” Qing Ling raised her right hand to twist the Black Gold ring on her ring finger, but Gao Yang stopped her.
“Wait.” He kept his watchful eyes on Gao Xinxin while presenting the stumps of his fingers. “Inject Medicine C.”
Qing Ling didn’t understand. Gao Yang should be able to regenerate the lost appendages instantly with level 7 Gecko. There was no need for Medicine C. But she didn’t ask. Gao Yang must have his reason.
She took Gao Yang’s hand and injected his palm with one-quarter of the dose. She didn’t notice that outside the Absolute Barrier, jealousy had ignited in Gao Xinxin’s dark gaze.
That was what Gao Yang wanted.
He adjusted the Absolute Barrier to allow sound to go through. He exclaimed, “I have a girlfriend now, Gao Xinxin. I will get married and start a family.”
“You will grow up and start your family, too.”
“You should learn to be independent and not rely on your brother. Do you understand?”
Gao Xinxin stared at Gao Yang in disbelief like he was a stranger. She lowered her head and sneered.
When she looked back up, there was no grievance or anger on her face, not even jealousy.
“I understand, Brother. I’ll be good and do what a good death monster should do.”
“I will kill you all and have you watch as your companions die one after another, while you are unable to do anything.”
“I’ll make it so painful for you that you will wish that you’d never come into this world. Then I will give you a merciful death.”
“You don’t have to thank me. We’re family, aren’t we?”
Her eyes became all black after the declaration.
Powerful energy rippled from her petite build, leaving scars of black flames across the sky that lingered for several seconds before dissipating. Her twin tails scattered, and her black hair ran free. As Gao Yang wanted, Gao Xinxin had been thoroughly enraged. She was unleashing more power, but also becoming more reckless.
“Let’s go.” Gao Yang stared at the enemy calmly.
“Yeah.” Qing Ling stepped forward.
“Don’t die,” Gao Yang said.
Qing Ling rotated her ring. “Same to you”
Equivalent Exchagne, triple buff.
Duration: 3 minutes.
Price: 3 months of deep coma.
The golden lotus scattered into flying golden particles. Gao Yang vanished with Invisibility, while Qing Ling disappeared as she charged at Gao Xinxin at an impossible speed.
Three light wings detached and slashed at Qing Ling in thread form. Now with the triple buff, Qing Ling was able to barely see the trajectory of the wings and react accordingly.
To a bystander, what followed was a curious scene:
With the sea of flowers as the backdrop, time seemed to be skipping frames at high frequency. There would be a flash of light, then Qing Ling’s afterimage kept changing spots in every still frame, sometimes in the sky and sometimes on the ground; sometimes close to Gao Xinxin and sometimes far away.
In the frame of thirty seconds, Gao Xinxin’s wings had made hundreds of cuts, and Qing Ling had dodged them just as many times, always avoiding the attacks only by a hair.
Gao Xinxin hadn’t gone all in with all six wings, or even with the triple buff, Qing Ling would’ve failed to endure for more than ten seconds. Gao Xinxin had kept three wings on her back in case Gao Yang launched a surprise attack. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Gao Yang’s replicated Invisibility would fail as soon as he made a move. He only had one chance. By not showing himself, he was applying pressure on Gao Xinxin and preventing her from attacking with everything she had.
Qing Ling hadn’t simply been dodging. After the thirty seconds of hectic moving, she became familiar with the patterns of the threads of light, allowing her to make predictions and avoid the attacks with more ease.
Meanwhile, her Limitless Evolution was coming into effect, too, absorbing a small amount of Gao Xinxin’s energy to make her stronger and faster.
Leaping around at high speed with her arrays of hovering blades as springboards, Qing Ling dodged the cutting wings while getting closer to Gao Xinxin. Finally, an opportunity for attack presented itself.
