The Crimson Reaper-Chapter 50: Finally, We Meet
Melisa started explaining what the four hunters in front of her wanted to know while Alex was resting in the backseat of Scarlet’s car.
She told them everything they wanted to know while not revealing too much about her home.
Melisa explained what happened to Kai, and her orders to search for Helen because Nosferatu caught a wind of her researching vampires and trying to find the source of this zombie plague.
She also made sure to explain her final battles and how she got separated from her partner in crime.
While listening to Melisa’s story, one name stood out to the hunters.
"Luciel..." Helen whispered, falling down on her knees.
This was the first time she heard any news about him and he was right in front of her nose all this time, hiding in the shadows.
Her body trembled at the revelation, not knowing how she should feel or think.
"Wait, does that mean-" Dash and George looked at each other at the same time, then at Melisa and again at one another.
Helen seemed to be in shock while Scarlet was indifferent, already knowing the truth about Luciel.
"Melisa..." Helen started, slowly going to touch her hands, lifting them up. "Please tell me the truth... What is he?"
"A vampire." She answered, closing her eyes and when she opened them, they were emitting a small glow.
"Not a bloodhound, but a full-fledged vampire," Melisa repeated herself, wanting to get the point straight, "to the single cell inside his body."
Helen covered her mouth while the two other male vampire hunters listened in shock to Melisa’s revelation, but they all knew, Luciel’s wife was the one that had it the worst.
She placed both of her hands over her mouth. Helen tried to keep her tears in, but she couldn’t help herself the moment they started to flow from her eyes, going across her cheeks, all the way to her chin where they were dripping down on the ground.
All kinds of emotions started to mix while her head started to get filled with all kinds of questions.
Helen wanted to know in detail how he had been, what was he doing and how was he surviving. Why didn’t he reveal himself and why Alex never told her?
She should feel furious about Luciel not telling her the truth, but at this moment, there was no room for anger.
"Do you know where he is? Can you find him?" Helen grabbed Melisa by her shoulders, shaking her a little. Right now, she only wanted to meet her husband.
"Know where he is? No." She shook her head, "But maybe I can locate him. I have a very good hearing, better than most, so if he’s with the kids, there’s a chance that I can detect him."
Helen gasped at the news, not being able to believe what was happening.
She turned her head to look at Scarlet, but she had an angry look on her face, she did not care about finding Luciel, only about the kids that went forgotten at the mention of that dirty vampire’s name. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Next to Scarlet, there were Dash and George who had a concerned expression written all over, afraid of what they might see when they finally meet.
Helen was being overrun by her emotions, they wanted to tell her that Luciel might be a completely different person, but who knows how she might react.
And it was no use in telling her anyway, she would probably deny whatever bad news someone would say regarding Luciel. It would be for the best for her to see him herself.
’What a mess.’ Scarlet sighed, covering her face with her hand, glaring through her fingers at the vampire.
"All right, let’s go. Helen, take over Alex’s car. I don’t trust those two." Scarlet pointed toward George and Dash before going to lift up Melisa by her chains, throwing her into the passenger seat.
"You heard the lady, move it boys!" Helen ordered, waving with her hand before walking to Alex’s car that was identical to Scarlet’s.
’Oh Alex... Why do you always keep your keys inside your car...’ Helen thought, letting out a sigh. It was hard not to miss them, it was a miracle of its own how Alex still didn’t have his car stolen.
George and Dash sat down at the back of the car after Helen turned it on with Scarlet doing the same.
"The sun will be up, can you really do it?" Scarlet glanced in disgust at the vampire sitting next to her, it was a shame that she couldn’t get rid of it.
"Probably..." She answered, starting to breath through her mouth as she started to sweat a lot a few minutes after entering the car.
It felt really hot inside the car. It felt like being locked inside of it during the summer heat, with no air conditioning.
"Hey, can you lower the temperature of this car or something?" Melisa begged, pinching the shirt collar before rapidly moving it, trying to cool down her body, but to no avail.
"This car was designed to weaken you guys, no can do. That’s why I asked if you could still track them."
Melisa finally figured out the meaning behind Scarlet’s question. This car was probably equipped with something against vampires. Right now, her best option for survival was doing as they say and finding Luciel.
She sighed and glanced behind, looking at Alex who was sleeping peacefully in the backseat of Scarlet’s car.
Looking back in front of her, Melisa gulped at the sight of the rising sun, starting to feel restless. This was the last thing she needed.
"Don’t worry, the car windows don’t allow the direct sunlight to come through. Get to the work." Scarlet ordered, finally stepping onto the gas, planning to make a few rounds around the third circle of the colony before moving to the second if they don’t find Luciel and where he was, the kids should be too.
"All right, but just a warning, I can only navigate through sound, it’s not my intention to get you in trouble." She warned her before closing her eyes, trying to use her ability.
Melisa tried to concentrate, but whenever she would try to use her ability, she would get disoriented, muffled sounds, and constant ringing in her ears, making it hard to focus and differentiate the sounds.
The ability was weak, it felt like something was eating away at her Qi, she had to put twice the amount of effort into controlling and amplifying the sound waves to turn them into something above static noise.
’Luciel... Just what are you doing...’ Scarlet gripped the wheel, trying to figure out the logic behind his actions.
In the mean time, inside Alex’s car that Helen was driving, she started to feel concerned.
At first, she felt so excited knowing that there was a chance to talk to her husband again, but once the emotions settled down a bit, she got hit with a cold, harsh truth.
The fact that there was a chance that Luciel might have become a different person was eating at her soul.
Shivers went down her spine when she tried to imagine him with those fangs and red eyes.
’I wonder what shade are they?’ As much as she felt scared and horrified, she was curious and happy. Luciel was still here.
During their search, Dash and George were exchanging their thoughts among themselves, but they weren’t as cheerful even one bit as Helen.
They knew that Luciel would need to be put down. If he was now walking around as a vampire and started to mingle around their society, there was also a chance that he would find out about their illegal activities of human trafficking.
If Luciel would stumble upon that information, if he didn’t already, who knows what he might do to them.
Upon the group’s search, they came upon a few vampires and humans due to Melisa following any kind of trace she could pick up. Luckily, the wild vampires weren’t too much of a hassle.
They went around multiple houses and other areas until they arrived in front of the slightly bigger residence.
It gave them a good feeling since for the first time, the female vampire informed them that she could hear something like young voices belonging to the children.
Stopping the car in front of the house, everyone were sweating, except Scarlet who could guess what was waiting for her and Alex who was still passed out.
Everyone got out, but Helen stayed in her car, allowing the hunters to inspect the area, but all of that changed when she saw an average male figure standing at the doors with raven black hair.
His eyes were different, but that was unmistakably Luciel. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, her body temperature raising and her cheeks getting red a little since he looked better than ever if we exclude some differences.
Helen completely ignored Scarlet’s abuse towards Melisa as her eyes were solely for her husband. Her whole world went mute.
’H-he’s still in there...’ She thought, feeling like she was about to cry again, feeling so guilty that the words alone couldn’t describe it.
’I acted like he was dead, now a mindless monster to be put down, but he...’ Helen tried to get her composure together, not being able to forgive herself for writing him off just like that.
Everyone kept telling her to forget about him, that he was just a mindless bloodhound, how he killed an innocent hunter on sight the moment he revealed those fangs.
Seeing him run out to provide protection for the vampire he traveled with, allowing his skin to get exposed to the sun and then seeing him in pain broke her heart.
For the first time, she genuinely felt sorry for a vampire. Sure, she might have shown some kindness to the others, but never like this.
Helen finally got out of her car, being the last one that exited. Something inside her body didn’t let her to stay still.
"Luciel..." She called out once she heard him call out her name. Tears started to form in her eyes that finally started to flow down her face as her vision got blurry.
