Chapter 53: My Yang

Thump, thump, thump...

Her heartbeat was the last thing that Luciel could remember right before something took over his mind for a second.

While short, it was enough for him to find himself already attached to her neck, enjoying the most delicious blood he had ever tasted.

The warm, thick substance flowing down his throat, releasing him from never-ending thirst, reminded him of hot chocolate with strawberry syrup, but mixed in with the feeling of hunger, there was one more emotion, even stronger than the first - lust.

"Don’t worry, I understand," Helen reassured him when she felt like Luciel was about to let go, slowly putting her hand on his back while she could move her body before his paralyzing venom took over.

This was her first time being bitten by a vampire and having her blood sucked gave her a scare for a moment, but it wasn’t as bad as she thought it would.

The bite only gave her an unnoticeable amount of pain when he pierced through her skin with his sharp fangs, but after that, the effect of venom immediately took over as a warm sensation spread across her whole body.

Luciel tensed when he heard Helen’s heartbeat change for a moment, snapping his eyes open, but after hearing her calm voice, he relaxed, slowly closing his eyelids, letting his vampire nature take over.

Instead of just wanting to get the feeding over with, he took some time to enjoy it. That was the moment when he could feel something else mixed in with blood.

He didn’t know how to describe it since it didn’t have a taste, structure, or temperature, but he could tell that it was there. Instead of just enjoying the taste of blood, it felt vitalizing as it entered inside his body.

The moment Luciel heard that Helen’s heartbeat started to slow down, he slowly pulled out his fangs, licking the remaining blood that was on his upper lip.

"Well... This will take some time getting used to..." She said to him, smiling gently. Just looking at her eyes, Luciel could tell that she didn’t mind what he had done. After all, Helen knew that he needed blood to survive.

"Take some rest, all right." He stroked her forehead, getting up and helping her lay down on the sofa. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"And what about you?" she asked once Luciel had kneeled down on the floor so he could be at eye level with his wife.

"It won’t be my first time on the floor." He laughed a little, finally showing some joy after a long time, remembering the fight they once had and he simply rolled down the bed, taking all the sheets.

He watched her eyes slowly close as she laughed before she finally fell asleep. "Good night, my Yang..." He whispered, smooching her cheek, lightly stroking her hair.

Luciel yawned. He wanted to join her and sleep with her, especially since he didn’t get a proper rest. He only got around three hours of poor-quality sleep before being woken up.

His eyes started to close, and his eyelids felt like someone put anvils on top of them, but just when he was about to go into the land of dreams, Scarlet walked in.

"Luciel, we gotta talk." She said with a stern voice, glancing at the obvious bite marks on Helen’s neck.

"Did you just-" She kept moving her finger between Luciel and Helen when she noticed the bite mark. Every hunter who heard Luciel’s name knew how much he cared about his life, so this scene even managed to surprise Scarlet as well.

"What?" He asked like had just now done the most normal stuff there was, making Scarlet sigh and facepalm in defeat.

’Why am I even asking... There is no use in questioning the vampire logic.’ She thought, feeling stupid, "Just come to the kitchen, all right."

Luciel slowly got up, walking towards the designated area. He was the first to come in, but decided to stand, leaning against the counter with crossed arms. He might fall asleep the moment he would sit down.

"She told me to come to the kitchen, so what’s the hold-up?" He asked, relentlessly tapping his foot against the floor.

When he was about to leave, Scarlet walked in, pulling Melisa by the chain, at least she released her legs that were wrapped in them earlier.

George and Dash were the last ones to arrive, Making contact with Luciel’s cold, crimson eyes sent shivers down their spine.

Occasionally, when Luciel was with Helen, they would glance towards the two through the broken door that couldn’t close, but that gentle and warm expression from back there on their ex-party leader’s face was gone like he was a completely different person.

"So, what did you want to talk about?" He asked once everyone sat down, but the only spot Luciel was staring at were the wrapped chains around Melisa’s wrists. He could smell them burning into her skin, causing her constant pain.

"We talked a little while we were outside. The guys want to hear your story, but I’m not interested in that." Scarlet took out the hunting dagger, twirling it around her fingers, putting her feet on the table as she swung on the chair.

"What I want to know is what you were doing with the kids." She demanded, stabbing the dagger into the brown, wooden table.

"If you want me to talk, then release her." He demanded, glaring at Scarlet.

"No can do. She’s my prisoner and I’ll be taking her with me."

"Let her go, now," Luciel growled at Scarlet’s answer, slamming the counter with his fist, and making a small dent.

George and Dash who were staying quiet, afraid to get between two powerhouses, exchanged concerned looks with one another, afraid of the possible clash.

"Luciel..." Scarlet had a look that could kill as she glanced at him from the corner of her eye, "Can you really go against me in this state?"

She picked up the dagger, removing her legs from the table before pressing a sharp, cold blade against Melisa’s neck, making a small cut, burning the skin around it.

’That crazy bitch.’ Melisa thought, wanting to bite Scarlet’s arm, but if she would try that, her head might be sent flying off.

"Scarlet, I know you always hated vampires, but if you don’t want the human race to perish at Nosferatu’s hands, I advise you to let! Her! Go!" He stomped with his foot, straightening his back.

"Nosferatu?" Scarlet asked, raising an eyebrow, it was the first time she had heard that name.

"Yes. That vampire is even more powerful than Alukah and the one you are holding means a lot to him." He pointed towards Melisa, she was more valuable than Scarlet could have imagined.

"Besides, I have some questions I want to ask her regarding that... Leader of ours." Luciel’s eyes started to glow vibrant red as he felt an intense anger rise inside his body just at the thought of Nosferatu and what he had done.

’Nosferatu? What does he have to do with all of this?’ Melisa thought, feeling confused, wondering what could have happened in such a short amount of time.
