The Crimson Reaper-Chapter 67: Luciel’s New Weakness
"You are what?" Scarlet raised her eyebrows, blinking a few times. Her cold mask fell for a second after hearing Helen’s words and knowing her, she wasn’t joking.
"I-I’m pregnant." Helen’s voice trembled as she repeated those words. Instead of feeling happy about that wonderful news, she was scared.
"Wait, wait, wait, how, when?" The red-haired vampire hunter stepped back, trying to put two and two together. It was true that she used to see Helen exhausted and not looking too good, but she would always connect it with the latest happening.
"A night before the fight against Alukah... Luciel and I had done it." Helen answered, rubbing her belly as she looked down.
"Wait, then the baby is... Human?" Scarlet asked, covering her mouth, still trying to process everything.
"Shit." She muttered after seeing Helen nodding with her head, staying quiet. "Did you tell him?"
"No... I didn’t. There’s so much going on right now." Helen paused for a moment, trying to collect her thoughts. "I’m afraid it would be too much for him if I burdened him with this."
Scarlet crossed her arms, retaining her usual cold expression once the news finally settled in, allowing her to think rationally again.
"I don’t want to be a part of this, but he has to know." Scarlet pointed out, having a hint of anger in her voice to evoke a sense of urgency.
Having a child in this day and age was already challenging, and when it came to Helen and Luciel, everything should have been fine if only Luciel didn’t get turned.
If someone were to find out about this news, both she and the baby would be put in danger. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Luciel made many enemies along the way that would for sure come and hunt him down, especially now.
As a newborn vampire, Luciel was weak. If one of the stronger vampires or hunters would come to seek him out, he would be dead.
To make things worse, the baby and Helen could also be used against him, exposing him to a greater risk.
"I-I know, it’s just that..." Helen stuttered, "I worry about Luciel. He already carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. How am I supposed to put this on him as well?" There was a hint of frustration inside her voice, annoyed at the current situation. This was never supposed to end like this.
"Sooner or later he will find out. And it would be for the best if he finds out quickly." Scarlet advised.
After their last battle, she saw how much weaker he had become. His physical strength and skills were fine; they were on par with hers, but add the divine arts into the picture, and he was easy to deal with.
The first time she had seen him use his ability was when they got attacked by the zombie horde and it didn’t seem like he knew what he was doing.
In Scarlet eyes, the sooner Luciel finds out about the situation, the more time he will have to prepare.
"I-I know, it’s just..." Helen paused for a second, bringing her hands closer to her chest, "I’m afraid of a small possibility that he might reject the child..."
She fidgeted after finally revealing her biggest concerns. Despite Luciel still being the same, in a way, the cold harsh truth about what she said earlier about him still stands. He wasn’t human anymore and who knows how he might react.
"Quit worrying about things that haven’t happened yet." Scarlet rolled her eyes. She wasn’t fond of Luciel, but it was clear as the day that he still loved Helen. There was no reason why he would reject the child.
The two girls stopped talking once the hunter that was occupying the shower finally exited, staying quiet until he made some distance.
"Tell him. Even if he rejects the child, at least you’ll know where he stands - and that will make things easier for you in the future." Scarlet added before walking into the shower, leaving Helen alone.
’Easier said than done...’ Helen thought, placing her hands on top of her abdomen again, rubbing it a little as she looked down.
She knew that Scarlet was right and that she should tell Luciel what was going on. He deserves to know; it was his child, after all, as well.
Helen bit her lower lip, trying to think of how to approach him without making it sound like she was dropping a bomb.
No matter how hard she was trying to think about this, there was no way she could tell him this without placing a burden.
Not being able to reach a satisfactory conclusion, Helen let out a sigh, lowering her head.
She could come up with strategies and reach answers in her research, but this was next level.
After not being able to come up with a solution, her mind went blank as she stared in one spot until she heard footsteps.
"Your turn," Scarlet said, pointing behind her with a thumb.
"Oh? Already?" Helen raised her head, wondering just how much time had passed.
"I’m pretty quick." Scarlet shrugged, "You better hurry; the meeting should start in an hour and a half."
"All right, don’t worry, I will."
"Think about what I told you." Scarlet added, stopping for a moment before walking past Helen, "You better tell him soon."
Helen stayed quiet. She had no time to answer her as Scarlet continued to get further away.
Pressing her lips together, Helen tried not to think about it and went to take that shower, hoping that she would be able to relax and clear her head.
While in the shower, she took ten extra minutes, despite knowing that she should hurry. The water dripping against her back helped her to wash away all worries, at least temporarily.
Finishing with her shower, Helen put on clean clothes and headed in the direction of their room, expecting Luciel to be asleep...
But contrary to Helen’s beliefs, Luciel was training in her room, sitting in the middle of the bed.
Hearing the door suddenly open, with footsteps coming closer, Luciel lost his focus.
All it took was a moment of distraction, causing Luciel to accidentally put more power than intended into his mist bullet right before releasing it.
"Helen!" He raised his voice, turning his head toward her.
Just as he spoke, Luciel’s bullet flew straight at the vase that was standing on one of the tables and instead of stopping, it continued its trajectory upon hitting a wall, leaving a tiny dent before dispersing.
Luciel flinched at the sound of something breaking before crashing into multiple pieces and falling onto the floor.
"Luciel! That was my mother’s vase!" Helen glared at her husband. Thanks to this quick display, most of her insecurity was replaced by anger.
The vase didn’t have a special emotional meaning, it was just a piece of decoration her mom gave her before moving out.
She doesn’t even know why she decided to bring the vase with her in the middle of this chaos, it just felt right.
"Ah, sorry..." Luciel winced at the mess he had made.
Feeling a small sense of guilt for making a mess, he got up to inspect the vase, or... What’s left of it that is.
"Just forget about it," Helen said through her teeth, it was like she was taking care of a child.
"You sure? I will make up for it." Luciel stated, picking up the pieces from the floor and throwing them in the trash.
’There is no fixing it,’ He sighed, refusing to look at Helen.
"Yes, I’m sure." Helen’s voice deepened, "Now go and get ready. We will be late for a meeting."
"Like I care about it." Luciel rolled with his eyes, lazily going to put on his clothes.
"Luciel!" Helen shouted at the top of her lungs, now having enough of his attitude on top of everything she was going through.
"Fine, fine," Luciel mumbled, sending a small glare toward his wife as he removed one hand from his ear.
"No need to shout. I can hear more than I have to." He said under his breath as he finally got ready.
"Let’s go then."
