The Crimson Reaper-Chapter 71: Helen’s Revelation
"I’m pregnant..." Helen repeated herself, taking a small step back after no answer came from her husband.
The air felt heavy as she stared into his hollow eyes, now starting to think that her fears would come true.
Helen’s words came like a truck for Luciel and his mind went blank.
That news, while beautiful indeed, just didn’t feel real in this dark world.
’So that’s what she meant when she said for us...’ Luciel thought, finally decoding the meaning behind her previous sentence. She also meant for him to fight for the baby’s future.
Hearing his wife repeat herself brought Luciel back to reality.
He was about to speak, but no words came out.
There were so many questions he wanted to ask, so many thoughts and emotions, that he didn’t know where to start.
Joy, fear, shock, confusion and so much more were mixed inside him.
Seeing Helen backing away slightly, he moved forward and pulled her into his strong, warm embrace.
This was a beautiful announcement and right now, he only wished to hold his wife.
Helen flinched slightly when Luciel hugged her without a warning.
She opened her teary eyes and wrapped her shaky hands around her husband, gripping his shirt.
All worries seemed to melt away and all that was left behind was a feeling of guilt, thinking that her husband would cast her away after finding out the truth.
"W-when?" Luciel stuttered, breaking a hug and placing both of his hands on her shoulders, "And how?" He asked, with a smile emerging on the corners of his lips.
"Remember the night before the fight against Alukah?" She asked, touching Luciel’s chest.
"Of course, I remember." He looked at her with tender eyes, placing his hand on top of hers.
He could remember the spicy night Helen talked about. It was romantic and wild love between two souls. They did not hold back since it was questionable if they could even come back alive.
His heart was pounding harder, faster as the thought of being a dad started to excite him. Something just sparked inside him at the realization. A strong instinct to protect.
It felt like a bond that couldn’t be broken by ordinary means. Helen and the baby were his and he would give his life for them.
"Wait, then the baby is... Human!" He asked after thinking about it. He used the same words Scarlet did when she found out, except that while she was shocked, Luciel was overjoyed.
When Helen nodded, he clapped his hands together and covered his mouth, taking a step back and making one spin before facing Helen again.
He stared into her green, hazel eyes and that’s when he could see tears flowing out.
"Why are you crying?" He asked, leaning his head onto the left a little before moving a small lock of hair behind her ear.
Helen couldn’t stop her tears. After seeing Luciel being so delightful, she realized what a terrible mistake she had made.
"I’m just glad to see you so happy." She lied, taking a faint smile as she moved her hands behind her back, playing with her fingers.
Luckily for her, Luciel didn’t figure out that she was lying. He could hear a change in her heart rate, but it was never steady to begin with.
And this wasn’t a moment where he would think whether she was telling the truth or not.
"Thank you..." Luciel smiled from ear to ear, taking and caressing the back of her hand.
There was a long silence between the two as Luciel stared into one spot with excitement before washing away.
"Luciel, what’s wrong?" Helen asked, noticing subtle details in his expression.
He wasn’t smiling anymore as he furrowed his eyebrows.
"It’s nothing; we will worry about it later," he answered, walking behind his wife so he could hug her.
His head was resting on top of hers while placing his hand on top of her abdomen.
The news he received was amazing. It was a shame that he didn’t receive them sooner, but there was one thing that he feared, and it wasn’t about becoming a father.
The instinct to pursue power was only getting stronger, especially now that one more life was in his hands.
Luciel was aware that many enemies would come and seek him out once the information spread about his current condition.
There was also a question if the people would accept the child, even if it’s human. It doesn’t make sense, but humans are foolish creatures.
"Who else knows?" Luciel whispered, scanning the area to make sure that no one approached them while they were talking.
"Only Scarlet," Helen answered, turning around and lifting Luciel’s hand.
"Good, keep it that way." He even wondered if he should tell Alex or not.
Alex was Luciel’s best friend, a person he could trust, but he didn’t know how to keep a secret. Sooner or later he would spill it somewhere.
"Let’s return to the meeting then..." Luciel sighed at the mention of it.
He still wanted to just walk away through the front door without looking back, but Helen’s revelation changed the situation.
Leaving now meant abounding Helen and the baby. He couldn’t let her raise it on her own. He couldn’t do that to her. Even if he was a vampire, he still had a heart.
"If it didn’t end already," Helen added, starting to feel better now after telling the truth about her pregnancy.
"I wouldn’t complain about that." Luciel chuckled, that would be the second best news after the ones Helen had delivered.
He felt like throwing up just at the thought of going back.
Helen rolled her eyes at her husband’s dedication to avoid the meeting, even if she could see why he didn’t want to attend. It was bothersome, especially for him due to constant threatening glares and hate.
When they arrived and opened the doors, everyone turned to look at them, wanting to see who had arrived, but their curiosity was soon replaced by disgust.
"Look at him."
"Why did he even return."
"Sickening vampire lover."
The last comment made Luciel’s eyes glow slightly as he growled, revealing his fangs. His claws extended, getting ready to rip the hunter’s throat out.
He did not bother with hiding his vampire features since everyone knew what he was and prejudices weren’t any milder.
Seeing the vampire getting agitated, the hunters quickly went to reach for their weapons, some of them didn’t know what might have caused this reaction but those that did know felt a lump forming inside their throat.
"Luciel, calm down," Helen whispered, hitting him on the back of his head before turning toward the hunters. "Sorry about my husband..."
She bowed her head slightly, glaring at her husband while wondering what was about.
"This meeting is a disaster..." Jack mumbled under his breath, letting out a sigh as he rested his head in the palm of his hand. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
If he had a choice, he didn’t want to invite the vampires in the first place, but given the situation, it was best to have them included. Hiding them somewhere and pretend like they don’t exist could only make the situation worse.
He hoped that everyone could get to the same page during these hard times, but changing the hunters’ opinions was a challenge itself.
