The Crimson Reaper-Chapter 94: Back to the Shelter (2)
"Uhhh... Because mine broke?" Alex looked sideways, whistling a little while tapping the truck with the tips of his fingers.
"And she gave you her car, just like that?" The hunter narrowed his eyes. Alex breaking his car seemed about right, but he wasn’t convinced that Scarlet would just let him borrow hers.
Luciel sighed, facepalming at the interaction the two had. If they were discovered, it would be because of Alex.
With nothing left to do, he decided to jump into the conversation.
"I was the one who asked and was supposed to drive it," Luciel walked forward, trying to save the day, "but as it turned out, I could barely hold for five minutes before needing to take a break because after all-" he stopped, pressing his hand on the car.
It started to sizzle and smoke could be seen coming below it before he finally removed it, allowing the rest to see one more proof of his vampirism.
"It hadn’t been long, it’s easy to forget small details such as this," Luciel chuckled, revealing the tip of his fang before his eyes fell on the system screen again that appeared before him.
<Qi: 600/1000>
<Yin: 450>
<Yang: 150>
<Hp: 970/1000>
Luciel clicked with his tongue after seeing a connection between his healing factor and Qi, not liking where this was going.
Seems like his healing factor was taking one point of Qi for every point of hp that had been lost.
The burn from the arrow took ten points and he was burnt twice.
Seeing how his hp already started to increase, he could already predict that he was going to lose thirty points of already hard-to-get Qi because of his little stunt just now.
"Is something wrong?" The hunter waved his hand in front of Luciel after he had been staring into the empty space for a while.
Luciel flinched at the sudden appearance of a hand suddenly getting in between of his system, making him step back a little.
"No, everything is fine, got a little bit lost in thoughts," he shook his head, smiling nervously.
"Right... I was saying that maybe you should get your wound checked, but now I see that there is no need for that," the hunter pointed at Luciel’s palm that was already good as new.
"What can I say, vampires," he shrugged with his shoulders, not knowing what else to say at the current uncomfortable situation.
"Cringe," Melisa muttered, going to slap the back of Luciel’s neck, but he quickly blocked the attack with his forearm.
"What?" Luciel asked, wondering what he did to deserve such an attack.
The hunter cleared his mouth, putting his fist in front of the mouth. He might be friendly, but he didn’t come here to watch children playing with each other.
"And who is this?" He asked, pointing at Melisa, her features giving away her species.
"Melisa, I’m the one who requested Helen to help my brother," she crossed her arms with a chin up, refusing to offer a handhsake to this disgusting human, all of them were the same.
"May I take a look at him?" The hunter moved away his hand, trying to quickly get to the point and to finally be done with this.
The atmosphere was getting more awkward by the second the more he interacted with them and while Luciel seemed to be fine, same as usual, he would lie if he would tell that he feels comfortable with him around.
"Yeah, sure," Melisa didn’t shy away from showing him the condition her brother was in, everything just to have him saved and they have to hurry, who knows how much he had left.
She gestured for the hunter to open the door. If possible, she would like to avoid getting hurt, she could still feel the pain even if her body would heal right after.
She peaked behind the hunter when he opened the doors, carefully inspecting Kai.
The hunter leaned forward and moved away the male’s vampire shirt collar where he could see multiple dark veins spreading around, trying to reach his neck.
Not only that, the vampire was covered in sweat, breathing heavily, his head flinching here and there.
The hunter leaped backwards after realizing that he was actually watching a vampire that was slowly turning into a zombie.
He redied his spear and pointed it towards Kai, "Why did you bring that thing here?!" He shouted, sounding panicked.
Seeing their leaders reactions other vampire hunters rushed towards his side, raising their crossbows and pointing them towards the group.
Seeing the hunters reaction at seeing her brother made Melisa’s blood boil and her red-wine eyes turned vibrant red. Her body temperature raised, making a small, misty cloud come out from her mouth as she breathed out.
"What do you mean that thing!" She growled loud and clear, taking out her claws, ready to dug out the hunters eyes, "He needs help you freaks!" She cursed, leaping at the hunter, but before she could do anything, Luciel already snatched her by the neck.
"Calm down," Luciel whispered into her ear before gazing back at the leader of the hunter team, "Sorry about that, she has quiet the temper."
"Helen’s Ashford request. This vampire had been put into deep slumber and should be safe for now," he replied to the previous question, making sure to stay calm while holding back Melisa with a dangerous glare, making sure that she wouldn’t do something that she might regret later.
"I’m gonna have to check on that, please stand by," the leader ordered, tapping his bracelet a few times before saying Helen’s name, waiting for her to pick up, but to his surprise, there was no reply.
"That’s odd..." The hunter muttered, attempting to call again, but there was no answer.
Luciel’s eyes were darting between the hunter and his bracelet when Helen didn’t pick up which was highly unusual for her. It should be around 9pm now and she would usually rest at that time unless doing some kind of research or experiments, but even then, she should be available.
His heart skipped a beat, already starting to worry about his loved one. Something deep inside of him was telling him that something was wrong.
’What if something happened to her? Maybe she fell and broke her leg?’ Luciel started to think all the bad that might have happened to her.
He was pacing left and right, his ears starting to ring while trying to reason with himself.
’Maybe she just fell asleep or she might be showering at the moment,’ he tried to think straight, taking in deep breaths. He knew that he was overeacting right now and needed to calm down.
"I’m gonna try calling Jack," the hunter declared, observing Luciel with one eye. He knew that those two were together for four years now and got married seven months ago, but there was no need to panic.
Luciel stood still after seeing the hunter trying to get a hold of Jack.
He closed his eyes, concentrating on the conversation between the two, but the feeling of dread fell onto his body after hearing that no one had seen her in the last twenty-four hours.
Luciel stopped to breath, clenching his trembling fist. He tried to stay calm, but the emotional bond he had made with her, as a human and a vampire, didn’t allow him to stay still.
"I have to check on her," he slowly raised his head, getting ready to kill anyone who might stand on his way.
"I’m sorry, but I cannot let you do that," the leader pointed his spear at Luciel, "at least not without getting checked by the nurse, standard procedure."
Luciel glared at the spear, grabbing it with his hand and moving it away, not carrying that he might get injured again.
"You still care about the protocol when who knows what happened to Helen?"
"Yes, because I care about the rest of the people who are in there," the hunter scowled, it’s not that he didn’t feel concerned, but there were others he needed to care about.
"Luciel, just go and get checked, I’m sure that the nurse would take you in quickly!" Alex recommended, trying to ground his friend so he wouldn’t go wild, for everyone’s sake. These hunters might be friendly, but Luciel was still an enemy.
"Fine," Luciel said through his teeth, finally giving in. Alex was right and it might be faster to do as the team leader had said.
"Mark! Escort him to the medical ward! I’ll need a few more words with those two."
"Yes, sir!"
Luciel glanced at the hunter, despite him raising his weapon at him, he realized that he was still doing him a favor by letting him go before the rest.
"Thank you..." He bowed his head. He was grateful at the small gesture and went to follow Mark to the medical ward.
Luciel could hear the beating of his heart. It was getting faster and stronger. He felt so anxious that he struggled with keeping his claws in check which wanted to get out, prepeare for a possible fight.
"Hey, Luciel, may I ask you a question?" The young hunter asked, looking at Luciel with a smile. He didn’t seem older than twenty years.
Mark could feel anxiety coming off from his hero and just wanted to strike a conversation with him. It was the least he could do after he saved his life on the battlefield.
"Sure," Luciel answered, rising an eyebrow while fidgeting with his fingers, wondering what now.
"Can you still drink?"
"Drink?" Luciel leaned his head on the side, feeling confused at the question that came out of blue.
"You know? Gin, vodka or... A beer?"
"Alcohol? I can... But why you ask?" He questioned, wondering where this was coming from.
"On the battlefield, you told me I owe you a beer," Mark giggled, leading him in front of the nurse office.
He was glad that he had a chance to talk with the person who saved his life, even if he might be different. In his eyes, it was just another possible casuality in their line of work, even if extremely rare that one would come back as a vampire.
"Oh... That, it wasn’t a problem," Luciel’s heart softened a little at hearing his words, feeling slightly calmed than before.
He was glad that there were some people who still appreciated his heroic deeds.
"Thank you for saving me, Luciel," Mark bowed his head slightly to show his respect. Wherever possible, he would always give his support to Luciel.
