The Crowned Greed: Transmigrated into a Demonic Dragon-Chapter 204: Anomaly
Feeding an anomaly prisoner once a day.
It was a normal job at first glance. Feeding an anomaly wasn’t really something special.
Yet no one wanted to take it.
The payment of the job kept increasing day after day, and still no one bothered taking it other than the desperate prisoners.
And the reason was simple.
The prison was filled with lunatics. It had murderers, rapists, and people who committed sins that couldn’t be told—but none of them was a fool.
The guards fed the anomalies themselves, so why would that anomaly be the only special one? Why were they so generous regarding the reward of completing the mission?
But the most suspicious part was what happened whenever no one accepted it.
The guards would simply choose a random cell and force the prisoners there to feed him!
Instead of doing that himself or using a slave, they avoided that anomaly completely and used the prisoners!
So the real question was—what was so special about that anomaly?
After she asked Braham that question, he gave her an interesting response.
"Hmm, let’s see." Braham rubbed his chin thoughtfully: "Okay, let’s start."
"Some prisoners saw the moment of his arrival. He was turned into a statue of steel and brought here by Valor himself. According to some rumours, Valor said that the boy really pissed him off somehow and couldn’t be underestimated despite his rank."
"He’s also likely a user of black magic, so that might be how he pissed Valor off. The black magic is truly unpredictable and hard to deal with. Of course, all that meant nothing with the collar and some security, right?"
Anastasia nodded, her eyes filled with curiosity.
Braham smiled: "That’s what we all thought."
"The first thing that happened was a sudden boost to his strength that broke his collar by force! And this thing kept repeating every single month!"
"What!" Anastasia’s jaw dropped immediately.
It wasn’t uncommon for someone to get a sudden boost in their strength. The beings with bloodlines could do that.
But that was it.
Only the beings with bloodlines or those who were lucky enough to have unique abilities could do that.
And the guards forcibly observed the runes of every single prisoner here. If the anomaly had anything that would do that, he’d have been exposed instead of breaking the collar.
"Even if he has a bloodline... a sudden boost once a month is impossible. The boost should be strong enough to break the collar, right? Monthly boosts are impossible!"
Braham raised one finger and whispered only one word: "Anomaly."
"Oh." Anastasia nodded in understanding and continued listening.
"Here is the fun part." Braham smiled excitedly: "The first boost suddenly made him able to absorb all food without any waste. Since that month, he didn’t need to relieve himself even once. A lot of people are similar, including you and Kael, but you two didn’t get that out of nowhere."
"Yes." Anastasia agreed, glancing at the bird without Braham noticing.
"Then the big incident started." Braham smirked dramatically: "I couldn’t see it myself, but some friends told me what happened. It was a nightmarish day."
Anastasia leaned in to listen better.
"When he broke the mask, one of the guards suddenly lost control."
"He attacked the other guards and even killed two of them. But the strange part was that the guard used... black magic!"
"After defeating the guards, the guard denied doing anything while hallucinating and saying random words. He had lost his mind, and we never saw him again."
"Dante was just watching everything without resistance. They put another collar on him and put him into the anomaly cell on his own."
Anastasia’s mouth was wide open the whole time while listening.
Thanks to her father, she knew a bit too much about black magic, or rather chaos magic.
And she knew that a Rank 2 couldn’t achieve something like that instantly. Not to mention the fact that he had made the guard himself use chaos magic with enough strength to kill two guards.
"Impressed?" Braham sighed: "I’m not done yet. At that time, the guards were still feeding him themselves, but everything changed later."
"No one knows why or how, but the guards suddenly decided to keep a distance between themselves and him. They avoided him like a source of plague, and went as far as making us feed him."
"That’s why no one wants to take that mission. If even the guards with access to their abilities and magic are avoiding him, why would we accept it?"
"Not to mention, the same thing happens every single month. The collar breaks, a random guard turns into a lunatic, and we don’t see that guard again. That thing keeps repeating endlessly, and I heard that they’re trying to contact Valor to decide his fate."
"Oh," Braham kept recalling details about Dante: "He also has high resistance to radiation like the abyssal races, even though he’s supposed to be a human."
"And he has a strange magical charm that affects people. They put a torturing device on his face because a prisoner was seduced and tried to free him, risking her own life."
"Also, that kid is really a lunatic! Even with that thing holding his face, he moved anyway, causing it to tear his skin! Oh heavens, how was he smiling with all that pain?"
"But somehow, he has strong REGENERATION! From the reaction of the guards, I can say they are confused about it."
"Did I mention that his hair doesn’t grow? His hair’s length had been the same since I saw him for the first time. I started to feel like he isn’t actually a kid but rather a person who doesn’t age."
Anastasia kept listening to Braham with disbelief. Everything he had said was truly unnatural.
Even Charis was puzzled!
"By the way, why are you asking, Ana?"
Anastasia scratched her head and smiled: "Because I accepted the mission to feed him. That way, I can be a little more helpful to you and help a prisoner to avoid being chosen to feed the anomaly."
"Oh, good." Braham smiled proudly, only for his smile to freeze midway.
Even Kael, who had only been listening from the side, looked at Anastasia as if looking at the definition of foolishness.
Finally, Braham opened his mouth and spoke calmly.
"YOU DID FUCKING WHAT?!!"
