The Dark Rebirth of Pandora: Revenge of the Abyss-Chapter 147: Class S anomaly
Chapter 147: Class S anomaly
My team and I are a group of 6, and we’re all Rank-S here, though we’re not even close to the top we’re all still powerful.
The guild recently had an issue with a monster letting a Rank-A escape, only to kill it later.
The guild takes these things very seriously, and in this case, they decided to recognize it as a threat and sent an S-class team to hunt down this monster.
This is because this type of monster ends up being problematic when it decides to attack a kingdom.
Our team was available, so we ended up being requested and accepted because there was an excellent reward, since it’s a mission given by the guild leader himself.
They even gave us some artifacts to ensure we’d find this thing. At first, the hypothesis was that the enemy would be a vampire, but after the artifact located the enemy, it ended up being a girl with pale skin and a black tail.
In other words, from the most obvious perspective, it’s a monster that evolved naturally, these are problematic beings, and even their bodies can be problematic after death.
Still, we continued the mission.
I’m the leader of the group, a swordsman.
In general, we have a special formation divided into pairs, and the pairs are usually:
Me, Roan the swordsman, going with Flora, who’s a hand-to-hand fighter.
Our mage Yuri goes with the archer Zion, since they’re both good at ranged combat.
And finally, our tank Oliver goes with Amanda, who’s a skilled healer and the team’s priestess.
The formation sometimes changes, but this is the standard we use almost always. After a fight to determine the enemy’s strength, Yuri was seriously injured.
So we decided to classify the monster as A+ class and eliminate it in one fell swoop.
We didn’t classify it as S because it lacks the raw power to affect large areas at once and individual power to be S-class, or at least it didn’t show that capability but nothing prevents it from having it.
In the end, it’s the guild’s job to classify, not ours, so this classification isn’t 100% accurate.
After Yuri’s large-scale magic, a white flash covered everything.
This is one of Yuri’s strongest attacks a magic that covers a large area and then pulverizes it with a mana blast from the sky.
"Hey, do you think that thing can survive that attack?" Oliver asks while we’re inside Yuri’s barrier.
"Hmm... hard to say, that thing has shown great regenerative abilities." That cut I made on the monster’s neck isn’t something easy to regenerate, especially since my sword contains sacred, fire, ice, and lightning elements, which hinder natural regeneration.
"Anyway, if that thing is still alive, we’ll attack to kill." The first fight was more to classify that monster if we gave it a high classification, we could get more rewards.
But after Yuri was injured, there was no reason to drag out the fight, since we determined it was a dangerous enemy.
"Yuri, are you okay? I know you’re angry, but don’t waste mana like that." This attack has been covering the area for almost a minute.
"M-More... tsk." She was about to complain but gave up.
"Just 30 more seconds, okay?" She says.
"...Haa... sure, 30 more seconds... anyway, we were going to burn the body anyway." This is a guild rule the bodies of unknown monsters must be destroyed, and only the ashes should be taken for analysis.
After all, no one wants an event like the living armor that devastated a kingdom to happen again. The armor was made from the remains of an evolved monster, and in the end, the armor gained life from the material and started destroying everything.
That’s why new monsters have to have their ashes analyzed first to see if their use is permitted or not.
’What a shame... that thing’s tail could have served as material for many mages.’ It had a lot of stored magic in its tail and halo.
After another 30 seconds, Yuri’s magic dissipates, revealing a plain of at least 3 kilometers.
S-class adventurers tend to cause great destruction in the areas they fight, so this result is common.
"...Huh? Seriously?" Zion says as she sees the spot where the monster’s ashes should have been, and there it is.
"Guys, get ready, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be that easy," Amanda has already healed us, so we’re ready.
"Wait, what happened to that thing?" Flora asks, making us focus more on the monster’s appearance.
Now it doesn’t have that pale skin anymore in fact, its entire body is made of a black sludge that’s dripping on the ground, and it has two additional arms, making it four-armed.
While it has some extra mouths and eyes in asymmetrical places, it seems incomplete and full of flaws, but it’s undoubtedly a monster.
The eye sclera have also turned dark, leaving only the red pupils visible, but even though the whole body is pure darkness, you can still notice the facial expressions of that thing.
The thing moves two of its hands and puts them on its face, like someone would do to look cute when admiring something, and the monster then speaks.
"Ah... this looks so delicious." The voice is strangely cute, considering the creature’s bizarre appearance. The monster closes its extra eyes and mouths, hiding them in the pure darkness that is its body.
"What the hell is that thing? Is this normal?" Flora asks Yuri, who has more knowledge about monsters.
"I-I don’t know? Normally, evolved monsters don’t go back to their monster forms, since they tend to lose a lot of their intelligence." Yuri says, not really understanding why this monster did that.
’Regardless of whether it lost its intelligence... the strength has increased a lot.’
"Guys, don’t underestimate this thing, it seems much more dangerous now." We six move closer to our pairs.
"Let’s maintain the standard formation, but the focus now is the permanent elimination of this thing." There’s no reason to try to classify this thing we need to kill it as soon as possible.
"Ready, Flora?" I ask my partner.
"Always," she responds confidently.
"Yuri, use the strongest buffs you can." Before, we didn’t see the need to use buffs, but now this thing seems more threatening than before even its aura is uncomfortable.
And look, we’re Rank-S for something to make us feel uneasy is difficult.
Flora and I advance on the monster’s flanks, which has a bizarre smile. The entire ground around the monster turns to ice thanks to Yuri’s magic with the monster’s intelligence likely diminished, old tricks still work.
The monster looks at the ice, taking its focus off us. Flora approaches, as she’s the fastest, and when she strikes the monster, it grabs her fist with one of the arms, still not focusing its vision on Flora.
The monster looks at me, and in an instant, it’s in front of me it was so fast that I lost sight of the monster for a moment.
I strike with my sword, protecting myself from the monster’s hands. I notice this black sludge dripping on the ground, while the monster doesn’t seem to care much when one of its hands is divided by my sword.
’There’s no blood.’ The hand soon restores itself.
"YURI, THIS THING MUST HAVE A CORE, LOOK FOR IT!" I jump back to distance myself.
Sludge-type monsters usually have cores throughout their bodies. Flora advances, piercing her hand through the monster’s body, which doesn’t seem to bother it much.
"AAAHHH!" Flora screams as she jumps back, and I notice that her entire arm has disappeared the arm that was inside the monster’s body has been torn off.
’What a wonderful, this thing doesn’t take damage from physical attacks.’ I think sarcastically.
To divert the monster’s focus, Oliver throws his shield, splitting the monster’s body in half, while the shield returns to his hands. Following the cue, a shower of fire arrows from Zion rains down on the monster, but it quickly recovers the damage.
Soon, Amanda starts healing Flora.
"[Kazichikase]" I use lightning magic on this thing, which doesn’t seem to be too focused on the fight, although its gaze is disturbingly following me the whole time. It doesn’t look at anyone else but me.
Soon, a large lightning bolt falls from the sky, hitting the thing, which protects itself with the sludge, creating a ceiling over its head.
Two of the monster’s hands then clap, and when the hand opens, a lightning bolt is formed in its hands.
’This thing replicated my attack just by observing it?’ It’s not exactly the same, but it seems to be just mana from the lightning element, very similar to what I did.
The thing then shoots the lightning bolt at me while I cut with my sword.
"Flora, you can take off the bracelets." Flora removes what’s left of her bracelets as she prepares to use the martial arts she knows.
Flora and I advance while Yuri uses debuff magic on the monster.
Flora begins to land a sequence of hits on the monster, the impact reverberating through everything solid around, cracking the ground in a huge area while the monster’s body trembles like jelly.
Each of Flora’s punches makes it seem like an earthquake is happening in the area.
Flora’s martial art is based on generating shockwaves it’s good against monsters that have cores.
Soon, several eyes of the monster open, focusing on all of us, while the monster begins to block each of Flora’s punches with an equally powerful punch.
I go for the monster’s back to strike it, but it blocks all my blows using the extra arms.
Yuri starts attacking with simpler but powerful magic that doesn’t risk hitting us, while Amanda uses team buffs on all of us, and Zion shoots arrows at the monster’s head.
An arrow pierces the monster’s eye, but it doesn’t even distract the monster, which seems to feel no pain.
"Roan, I found the core it seems to be in the center of the chest, a little to the side of the heart area."
"YOU’RE DONE, YOU BITCH!" Flora yells while punching the area Yuri indicated, and soon Flora’s hand grabs the monster’s core and pulls it out, moving away from the monster.
Flora moves away from the monster and shows a red core in her hands, and all the monster’s eyes focus on Flora, while the monster’s expression becomes a distorted and horrifying smile, to the point where even Flora shivers a little.
"Roan, it’s yours." I accelerate while Flora throws the core to me, and with a movement, I break the core into several pieces.
I look at the monster’s body, which dissolves into a black goo on the ground.
’That easy?... seriously?’ It was easier than the previous version.
Flora approaches the goo on the ground and kicks the goo.
"That’s for ripping off my arm, you disgusting thing."
"Flora, get away from that thing quickly, it could be dangerous. Yuri, you can destroy this." I say as I move away from the goo.
Flora turns to me.
"Seriously? What could this goo do?" Flora speaks in a mocking tone.
’Flora has to stop underestimating the monsters...’
"FLORA, WATCH OUT!" Amanda yells.
"Where?" Flora looks in all directions but doesn’t see anything.
"THIS THING IS STILL ALIVE!" Amanda shouts while I feel her mana, and soon we all look at the goo. As a priestess, Amanda has this type of magic to detect life.
The goo takes on the previous form again, while its entire torso opens into a huge jaw that closes, covering Flora’s body it was so fast that Flora couldn’t react, and only her legs remained visible.
"KYYYAAAAAA" we hear screams and the sound of bones being crushed as Flora’s legs, the only visible part, fall to the ground the sound of grinding is nauseating.
The monster puts two hands on its face while making a cute sound, as if it had just finished eating something delicious.
The monster’s smile is bizarre, and with that, it becomes obvious:
"Everyone, listen, this thing is an S-class monster, you can use any magic without restriction." I give an order with a cold voice.
The loss of a comrade is unacceptable.
"[Spatial Deformation]" I use spatial magic while swinging my sword, and half the creature’s body disappears, but even so, its disgusting smile never fades as its body returns.
This damned monster is toying with us.
"[Break Limit]" I use another skill, advancing extremely fast while shredding the monster’s body with hundreds of attacks, chopping the monster into little pieces.
"[Incinerate] [Raichizuke]" I use fire and lightning magic together, trying to carbonize this thing as I move away again to get closer to Oliver.
But nothing, the thing simply regenerates.
"As you’ve seen, it will be difficult to kill this thing... and... it doesn’t have a core... an anomaly." I say the correct way to classify this monster.
"An Anomalous S-Class" The final classification of this monster is an Anomalous S-Class.
