Alda had stationed one of his own familiar spirits here to watch over Rodcorte. Thus, Rodcorte was unable to watch what his familiar spirits – Izumi, Aran, and Kouya – were doing. The three of them were also unable to approach Rodcorte… though they had no reason to.

“What Alda is most wary of is probably us trying to help Rodcorte… That’s apparently what humans who ascended to become familiar spirits would normally do,” said Kouya.

“Familiar spirits like that were worshipers of their gods while they were still mortal, after all,” said Aran. “They’re completely different from us in every way.”

Kouya, Aran, and Izumi were not worshipers of Rodcorte. It seemed that Alda and his subordinates did not understand this… That was how unfathomable it was to them that Rodcorte had decided to make people who could betray him at any moment his familiar spirits.
