The Demon Lords-Chapter 768 - 168: Reward_5
"I know."
"Ah, every time I get used to a place, I have to move again."
"Heh."
The sword maid gave a light laugh and said, "What are you afraid of? Since we're moving, naturally, everything that can be moved will be. That goes for belongings, and for people as well."
"Eh? You mean everyone will go?"
"That goes without saying."
"Great! I've even recruited a bunch of little brothers. Without them following me around, life would be so boring."
The sword maid rolled her eyes at the wolf cub. Imitating a new word she had learned from the Demon King, she said with disdain, "Childish."
Inside the General's Mansion, the young lord was using his soft little hands to grip the fence, constantly walking in circles.
Siniang sat in another corner, legs crossed, sipping tea while looking through an account book.
Moving meant everything had to start anew, but Siniang was far from demoralized. She was long accustomed to running brothels in different eras. Moving to a new place to replan and develop wasn't necessarily bad; on the contrary, it could offer a sense of novelty.
Besides, Snow Sea offered much more room to operate than here.
She got up, took a crispy cookie from the plate in front of her, and offered it to the young lord, who was enclosed by a small fence.
The young lord reached for the crispy cookie with one hand but couldn't grasp it after several tries. Finally, he used both hands to take the crispy cookie. Then, with nothing to support his balance, he plopped right down on the ground, a bewildered look on his face.
Siniang was amused and laughed.
The young lord didn't cry; seeing Siniang laugh, he laughed along too.
Siniang had always thought she disliked children. Only now did she realize it wasn't children she disliked, but their crying and fussing. Honestly, this young lord was indeed sensible and endearing.
Should she... have a child with My Lord?
Siniang hesitated.
But her hesitation was fleeting; she still had many things to attend to. Snow Sea was short of everything, so it was best to move whatever they could from Shengle City. Consequently, there were indeed many things to coordinate and arrange.
Siniang handed the crispy cookie to the young lord.
He gripped it with both hands, lowered his head, and nibbled and mouthed a piece into his mouth. Then he closed his eyes and began to chew patiently.
At this moment, a little lady came in from outside. Standing at the doorway, she announced, "Madam, Mr. Bei has sent someone to invite you outside the city. He also said to bring more people."
Siniang nodded and instructed, "I understand. Half the guards in the mansion are to follow me out of the city."
"Yes, Madam."
The little lady left. Siniang then picked up a fur shawl, draped it over her shoulders, and reached out to pinch the young lord's chubby, tender cheeks, saying, "I know you have a big appetite. Eat it all up, don't be shy."
Seemingly understanding, the young lord grinned and laughed again. Normally, sweets were rationed; he wasn't allowed to eat as much as he wanted.
Siniang then left the room.
The young lord held up the crispy cookie, then deliberately loosened his grip. The cookie fell and broke into two pieces. He took one piece and, scooting on his bottom, moved to a corner of his fenced-in area and placed the piece of cookie there.
Actually, most children do remember things from their early childhood; they just forget them later on. He remembered having a little companion who used to play with him, so he wanted to save some of the treat for him. He didn't even understand the meaning behind his own actions. Perhaps soon he would forget it all, but at this moment, he remembered it very clearly.
Infants are extremely sensitive, especially their perception of 'those kinds of things,' which is much clearer. This is why it's often said that children are more likely to 'see' ghosts than adults. Of course, in the young lord's eyes, it wasn't a 'ghost'.
Then, the young lord scooted back, picked up the other piece of cookie, and continued to eat it in the same way as before, nibbling and mouthing it.
Normally, for safety reasons, apart from his wet nurse during feedings, no one else was allowed to attend to him. After all, he was a child raised by Mo Wan. Even when alone, he wouldn't cry or fuss. If he had food he could chew, he would eat it. Then he would play by himself, and when tired, he would sleep. He was so well-behaved it was almost unreal.
At this time, two dark figures appeared in the small pond in the rear courtyard of the General's Mansion. The figures slowly emerged from the pond. Though water dripped from them, they made no sound. Two men dressed in black silently stepped out of the pond. After exchanging a glance, they began to run quickly toward the inner rooms. Their speed wasn't exceptionally fast, yet they seemed to leave afterimages as they moved. Most importantly, despite having just emerged from the pond, they left no trace of water on the ground.
CREAK...
The door was gently pushed open.
The next moment, one of the men in black leaped onto the roof and immediately flattened himself, his gaze vigilantly scanning the surroundings. The other man in black entered the room.
The young lord, who was sitting in his small fenced area nibbling on his crispy cookie, looked up at the man in black who had entered.
MUNCH... MUNCH... CRUNCH...
