The Devil Of Probability-Chapter 58: Happy Birthday Simon
This is certainly entertaining, don’t you think? Allow me to explain. Myths, legends, and folk tales — none of these are just stories. In this world, those stories you hear are entities.
Entities that have interacted with humanity. Some use their power for good, some use it for evil. Some even pretend to be gods. At some point, even I, Iscaria, had a thought to do such.
However, the more I thought about it, I saw no sense in it. It would only cause someone to come and slay me when I was weak. Actually, I would say it wasn’t me at all who came to this realization.
It was in what would be called Korea in the modern day— ah. My apologies, it would seem that we aren’t at this point yet. I’m sorry for teasing you. I sincerely did not mean to do so.
That could’ve caused some problems with our timeline if I did not stop myself... I’ve told you before, I simply want you to experience the emotions that overcame me when I put these things together.
I will eventually get to that story, but not as of right now. After all, it’s not what we need to focus on right now. As of right now, Simon is, as he still does not know of my other self, Saber.
It seems I have narrowly avoided going off topic. Now, where were we? Ah, yes, Simon and the Earth Scale Eel Cave.
Simon was still frozen in place, looking at the monkey, unsure what to do. Then he calculated the probability that there were more clones in this cave.
[Probability: 100%]
He didn’t say anything; he got the memo instantly. He needed to escape for his life! The clones multiplied by hair, so every strand of fur he saw would eventually turn into a clone as powerful as this one — or worse.
They would fully gain consciousness and become the full version of Sun Wukong!
Simon bolted towards the entrance of the cave, his life depended on his swiftness after all.
(I’ve been lucky enough to survive tonight, I won’t risk my life any further!)
If not for him outwitting the first clone, he would’ve been dead by now. However, this only made the path that the monkey was blocking even harder to explore.
This meant if he did not take the right path, he would have to kill tens, maybe even hundreds of clones. He was in no state to do such, not as a Dissonantly Reformed Officer.
If he dared to do so, he would need to be at least Reluctantly Unstable to deal with ten clones. When it came to fighting a fully conscious Sun Wukong, he would need to be Integrally Fragmented Stage.
Every second was torturous, making Simon’s journey towards the entrance of the cave feel like hours. He didn’t bother stopping his pace at the entrance, as he rushed out of the Hollow World altogether.
In the end, he only stopped when he was miles away from the entrance. Not because he wanted to, he simply ran out of breath. Only after reevaluating himself did he finally call Alina.
The phone didn’t even ring once; Simon hadn’t even noticed it had connected. He raised an eyebrow, wondering if the call had gone through.
(Maybe she changed something else?)
He wouldn’t mind if she changed something other than the trackers in his phone. Alina had proven multiple times that whatever she gave Simon would be useful to him one way or another.
However, this wasn’t the case at all. After a few seconds, he heard heavy breathing from the other side of the phone.
"Hello?"
"Oh, I thought someone else might’ve gotten your phone. Is something wrong?"
"?..."
Simon couldn’t help but think a little before answering. His conclusion for her anger was that someone might have stolen his phone, which had important information.
"Are you at the infirmary right now?"
"No, I’ll be there in six or seven minutes."
"I won’t be there before then, just wait for me. I need healing."
"Okay."
The line swiftly disconnected after those words. Simon sighed to himself, but he couldn’t be bothered by this anymore. He had gotten used to the aloof personality that arose from Alina. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
It left him in many awkward situations, but it wasn’t as bad as Evelyn. Evelyn and Alina were complete opposites, but it was harder for him to predict Evelyn than it was Alina.
Both were mysterious in their own ways, but that was just the way the world works. Everyone was unique in their own ways, and it gave everyone a certain beauty.
Simon had arrived at the infirmary rather earlier than he expected. Luckily, he and Alina had established a route for him to enter, unlike last time. Apparently, the vents to the infirmary were quite spacious.
This gave Simon the chance to enter from outside the building and crawl his way to the infirmary. The process was long, but it was better than dying.
Simon fell from the vent, landing on his two feet. A shock went up from his toes to the middle of his spine, making him shiver as he stood up.
Alina was already waiting for him, next to the hospital bed. This wasn’t what threw him off; he half expected this. What made him question things were the gifts next to the hospital bed.
Alina had a bright smile on her face, seemingly waiting for Simon to say something. When nothing came out of his mouth, she softly said:
"Happy Birthday, Simon."
"Oh."
What an awkward situation. Simon had forgotten it was his birthday today; after all, he did not like celebrations. He had even gone out of his way to tell his team not to get him anything if they knew it was his birthday.
These members consisted of Leo and Evelyn, of course. He had told them to save their money for Silas, as his birthday was tomorrow. He blinked for a moment, unsure what to say.
"I don’t want the gifts."
"...You’d better take them. I spent my entire paycheck making them."
"HUH?!"
(I thought she gets paid $500K a month?!)
