The Editor Is An Extra-Chapter 110: Mid terms 6
It had been three hours since the egg challenge phase started, Alistair along with Elsa, were making great progress.
The two decided to move together, or rather, Elsa had decided they move together, and Alistair being the simp he was, agreed.
After leaving the stadium, Alistair had to slow down his pace, just so Elsa could keep up with him.
In doing so, most of their classmates, like Rose, Anastasia, Fabian, and some other strong individuals from the other two classes, went ahead of them.
Though, instead of heading into the mountain range like most of the others, they turned in another direction, one which led to swampy forest. Alistair’s intuition told him he was going to find a lot of eggs there, and his intuition was almost always right.
True to his intuition, they came across a few eggs here and there, mostly in hollowed trees, and some inside quick swamps, which was unfortunate because they had to get dirty to get the eggs.
But in the end, it was turning out well for them. They had gotten a total of thirty one eggs, with Alistair holding onto twenty, and Elsa holding on to the rest.
The division was a given, after all, it wouldn’t do for Elsa to hold the same amount as Alistair did. He was far stronger than she was, and she would be holding him back otherwise, if she wanted the same amount as him.
As they walked further, they soon came across a large swamp, far bigger than any they’d seen so far. But there was something intriguing about it. In that swamp, was a small hill, that had about the same surface area as a regular room.
Embedded on the hill however, were several multicolored car tire sized eggs.
"It seems we’re in luck." Alistair turned to the white haired girl. "Let’s see who’s going to take more eggs." Elsa teased with a smile.
"Okay, we’re on." Alistair smiled back.
They both jumped at the hill at the same time –Alistair was obviously not trying to win–. However, while they were mid air, the hill on the swamp suddenly rose up with surprising speed.
"Watch out!" Alistair yelled, and tackled the white haired girl. They both fell towards the swamp, but at the same time, he managed to save her from a high pressured stream of water that passed through the space she had been.
Alistair flipped them both, before they touched the swamp, and then landed on his feet on the surface of the swamp. Using his speed, and the surface tension of the swamp, he managed to leap them back towards the dry land, before his feet sunk into the muddy waters.
"Thanks." Elsa muttered as Alistair let her down. "Don’t mention it." he scratched the back of his head. However, a loud growl that vibrated through both the ground and the air, broke them out of the moment.
Their heads snapped back to the swamp. There, where there was a hill before, now stood an massive crocodile so big that the hill they had seen before was laid on it’s back.
It’s dry brown scales made it seem as if it was wearing an armor. And the hill on it’s back didn’t sway even with it’s movements, making one wonder if it was part of the beast’s body.
"Elsa, we need to move," Alistair muttered, his face grim. "Now." he added, as the beast’s eye got fixated on them.
Alistair knew his limit. He definitely couldn’t defeat this beast while looking after Elsa at the same time. And even if she wasn’t around, he wasn’t sure he could kill it. At most, he could take advantage of it’s size to swipe the eggs, and make a run for it.
But something told him taking the eggs wouldn’t be easy. From the crocodile’s aura, Alistair could tell that it was at the pinnacle of the Theta+ rank, and could advance to the Zeta rank at any time.
Which was why he debated taking the eggs, and leaving. The crocodile couldn’t stop him if he wanted to leave, that much he was sure of.
Without any warning whatsoever, the beast moved with speed that belied it’s size, crossing the entire swamp at once and nearly reaching them both. And it would have, if Alistair hadn’t scooped up Elsa, and ran for it.
Grrrrrrrrr!
The ground beneath Alistair’s feet vibrated once more as the beast growled, but he didn’t let that make him falter.
He ran in between trees, trying to make the beast lose sight of them, which might perhaps make it go back to it’s habitat. But oh, how wrong was he. The beast didn’t care about the trees whatsoever. It didn’t even try to attack the trees using the pressurized water stream it had aimed at Elsa before.
Instead it’s sheer size and strength were more than enough to snap all the trees in its way, hence it was able to keep it’s sights on the two at all times.
After a few minutes of destroying the surrounding area of the swamp, due to the rampaging beast, Alistair had enough.
"Close your eyes, Elsa." Said the gold haired young man. Elsa complied, and as soon as she did, a blindingly bright golden light erupted from his being. It stayed for a brief moment, but the moment it disappeared, it no longer looked the same.
He still looked the same, and at the same time looked different. His hair had grown longer, and the shine of his gold eyes had gained a richer hue. And maybe he had buffed up a little. His aura too, had risen significantly.
"Hold tight." He whispered to the girl tightly clinging to him.
"Whoooosh!" He disappeared with a burst of speed.
One moment, the beast could still see him, and the next, it couldn’t. That didn’t stop it from continuing it’s rampage though. An inferior human had dared to confront it. It’s fury wasn’t dying anytime soon.
Alistair raced around five kilometers through the swampy forest, and all in a few seconds. He only stopped when he stopped hearing sounds of the beast’s rampage.
He let Elsa down, whose cheeks were red, as if in embarrassment.
"Sorry for the inconvenience." Alistair smiled sheepishly.
"No, you were saving my life." she hurriedly waved both hands in protests. "Thanks once more." she held his hands, her cheeks gaining another hue. On the inside meanwhile, she was anything but flustered. ’I think this much is enough.’ she thought. ’Or did I overdo it?’ she mused, watching Alistair, who was now the one all red and flustered.
Since they became ’close’, she had been forced to act all shy and flustered. The cute but timid/ shy girl always invoked the protective sides of young men who liked women a tad bit too much like Alistair.
She had seen the way he looked at the other girls in their classes after all, be it Anastasia, Rose, Delilah, Sarah, and even that girl from class 1-Delta who was shooting those subsonic arrows at them.
So she had to up her game, if she wanted to be the dominant one he paid attention to.
"Wow, I didn’t know we were allowed to act out a teen drama here." A voice cut through their moment. Almost immediately, both Elsa and Alistair glanced up.
And there, on top of a tree branch was a red haired girl, smiling at them both from above.
"Haha." Alistair laughed, removing his hands from Elsa’s hold. "It’s not what you think, she just grateful that I saved her." he said, awkwardly scratching his head.
"Y...yeah, he’s right." Elsa stammered, flushed. Inwardly meanwhile, ’Why did this red haired bitch have to appear now of all times?’ she hissed. Just when Alistair was carefully falling into her trap.
"No, no." The redhead smiled. "Please carry on. I didn’t mean to interrupt anything."
"Miss Necron..." Alistair began, but was cut off by Anastasia.
"What Miss Necron?" The redhead waved her hand. "We’ve been classmates for such a long time. Please, call me Anastasia, I insist."
’She’s so stunning, yet so nice, and kind.’ Alistair’s mind exploded, he got a little lost in those red eyes of hers, before he composed himself.
"Fine..." he hesitated. "Anastasia..." But before he could say what was on his mind,
DUM! DUM! DUM! DUM!
The ground began vibrating as if it was a drum being hit by drumsticks.
"Shit." Alistair muttered.
"What’s happening?" Anastasia asked with concern.
"That was what I was about to talk to you about. It’s a pinnacle Theta+ ranked beast. And it’s hunting both of us." Alistair gestured to both himself and Elsa.
"I was going to ask you if you’d like to join hands with us to defeat it." Alistair said. "Also, it has quite a large amount of eggs in it’s possession. We could share them after dealing with the beast." He explained.
"What do you say Miss... I mean Anastasia?" He quickly corrected himself.
Anastasia’s mouth curled upwards, as if waiting for that very question. "Even though it’s a competition, we’re still friends, so, I’ll help you out." she said, before turning to the frowning Elsa. "Isn’t that right, Elsa?"
