Chapter 143: [143] Spirit Corridor

"I-is that... what I think it is?!" Cassie asked, her eyes wide. "Where did you get a magister mammoth’s tusk??"

She practically sprinted to it then caressed it with her hands, treating it as though it were an egg.

"And it is so well preserved! Is this the effect of your spatial storage unit? How fascinating!"

Eliron smiled smugly. "If you are interested in that, then you will be even more interested in the other items I have..."

Cassie’s eyes glistened, her greed in full display. "Y-you... you have more??"

"Of course! For starters, this tusk actually comes in a pair you know?"

"There are two?!" Cassie nearly stumbled back.

Magister mammoth tusks were a prime ingredient used in mana refinement potions, because of this, the monster was a major target for tons of adventurers.

Capturing one was more than enough for them to swim in a tub of coins for an entire year!

But magisters were no pushovers, add that to the fact that they were carnivores... let’s just say most adventurers ended up swimming in the wrong type of river....

A pool of stomach acids.

To Cassie, she had struck gold! No, it was even better! Just one of these tusks could make about one hundred bottles, but two??

Cassie tried to maintain a straight face, but her lips, which tugged upwards at the side gave her away.

"P-please go on..." she managed to blurt out.

Eliron began counting his fingers, trying to remember the parts he had. "I also have Eaglebear parts, Talons from the night owl, forest keeper bones..."

By the time he was done, Cassie was hugging herself while swaying from left to right.

Her pupils had swallowed her iris whole, turning a dark shade of wine red, and her cheeks were just as rosy.

Eliron’s eyes narrowed as he watched her suspiciously. "Hmm... are you alright?"

Cassie nodded vehemently. "Y-yes~" she sang, just before rushing towards Eliron and grabbing his hands.

Her eyes were glistening as she tilted her head upwards to meet his gaze.

"You are a blessing sent right from God! I... I... I must see the rest of it right now, I must see the full length of your horn!"

Just at that moment, the door swung open, Eliron’s crew walking right in, with Artie right in front.

They all stared at Eliron, their eyes moving between them and the baron’s daughter.

"See... what?" Artie asked coldly as she watched them.

Their position could not be worse...

A woman, whose face was as red as beet had clasped onto his hands, eyes wide, drool practically dripping down her lip, as she asked to see his horn.

Eliron sighed. "This isn’t what it looks like..."

Yennefer had a sly smile on her face as she watched him. She then let out a prolonged "mmhmmm..." before walking closer to them.

"That only makes you sound guilty... Tsk tsk, what are you trying to become? A waifu collector—owww?"

Eliron suddenly pinched her arm and twisted it. "You’re not helping."

"Uhum..." Cassie cleared her throat and took a step back, giving Artie a measured gaze. "I apologize, I seem to have gotten a little too... excited."

Ash just stood in the background, unwilling to join the conversation.

"Anyways!" Cassie clasped her hands together. "If you all are not busy, can we get straight to business, my shop is just five seconds away."

Eliron raised a brow. "Five seconds? Do you plan on teleporting?"

Cassie nodded curtly.

Eliron glanced at his party, checking if there was any objection. When he saw that there was none, he nodded.

"Let’s be on our way then."

Cassie smiled. "Everyone grab a hold of Eliron, I will be using him as a base. Don’t worry, this will only take a second..."

All of them held on to Eliron, forming a semi-circle around him.

But just before Cassie could do her thing, a thought came to Eliron.

His eyebrows creased as he stared at her and asked, "Wait, have you ever teleported this many people?"

"Hmm? Sure, sure... they weren’t alive though..." she added in a very low tone.

"Wait, what???"

Before he could protest, Cassie immediately grabbed onto his arm, hugging it to her chest and snapped her finger.

Her crimson eyes glowed brightly, darkness clouded their vision, and then in the blink of an eye, they vanished—

Only to appear thousands of feet in the sky, free falling to the ground, surrounded by clouds and the clear blue sky.

Eliron rubbed his eyes, rubbed them again, then glanced at Cassie.

"What the hell?" He exclaimed.

Cassie giggled, her arms spread out as the wind rushed past her.

"My lord, I think this might be an issue..." Ash said.

"Yeah, no shit Sherlock!"

"You boys are just like babies, all you have to do is float...." Yen said smugly.

She was moving freely through the air, effortlessly carrying Artie along with her.

Eliron glared at her then let out a long sigh. He folded his legs while falling, then rested his chin in his palm as he stared at Cassie.

The first thing that had come to his mind was that just maybe Cassie was trying to kill them.

But that would make zero sense...

Not only did she seem genuinely interested in a business deal with them, none of them was even at risk of death...

Eliron could portal all of them back to the inn if he wanted to, and Yen could fly.

Cassie knew about his portals at least, so it was unlikely that she was trying to kill them all.

Then in that case...

"What are you doing?" Eliron asked, sounding mildly irritated.

Cassie smiled brightly, the wind blowing her golden hair past her face. "This is the only way to get to my workshop."

"What do you—"

"Oh, it’s here!" She exclaimed, pointing at an empty spot in the air.

"What are you talking abou—"

Before Eliron could finish speaking, Cassie pointed her finger at the empty spot in the air, snapping right at the spot.

"ARISE!"

Immediately the words left her mouth, a gust of chilling, cold wind blew past them. Eliron’s eyes widened as the space seemed to distort. "Is that..."

Intense mana suddenly burst out what had previously been an empty spot, waves of green, blue and purple energy drifting into the air.

Then out of nothing came an outline of a colossal shape, one that was defined as the second went by.

Bones appeared, flesh burst out of the joints, coating the frame all round, cartilages were formed, tendons conjoined the muscles...

Then came the nerves, veins and lymph nodes. Skin crawled upon the structure, moving like wild fire, then large fangs jutted out of the jaw— a gigantic monster mouth bursting into life.

The mouth was wide open to swallow them...

"A spirit corridor..." Eliron said breathlessly.

It was a special form of dimensional magic that can be formed after contracting a Great Spirit.

To have something like this set up. Just how far did the Demonic merchant’s reach go?

Cassie had a wide smile on her face as they raced towards the darkness of the maw.

But not everyone was so eager to be swallowed whole...

Ash had pulled out his sword, raising it defensively in front of Eliron.

As for Yen, well, Yen was being Yen...

"Aaaahhh, what the hell is that?!" Yennefer screamed, trying to fly away from it. But it was too late, the pull of the corridor was far too great—

And so they were all dragged right into the depths of the spirits throat, its massive jaws locking behind them.

<•••>

For a few seconds, Eliron lost all sense of direction. It was as though he had been plunged into a lightless abyss, or dragged into the depths of the ocean.

And then two slit-like pupils appeared right before his face, one of them a vibrant red, while the other was dark green.

The eyes narrowed as they watched him, scrutinising every part of him.

Eliron had no doubt about it, from the way his body tingled, and his mana surged defensively, he knew it.

He was in the presence of a Great spirit.

"You smell like him!"

Eliron winced as the voice hissed in his mind, bouncing around his skull like a coiling serpent.

’What the hell is this?’

From what Eliron knew about the novel, this never happened while passing spirit pathways!

Why did the great spirit single him out??

Ghostly jaws suddenly appeared, a spiritual version of the manifestation he had earlier seen, just that this time, two long fangs were dripping condensed mana.

Swoosh!

The entity raced towards him, jaws opening wide. Eliron raised his hands, trying to summon a spell, but he could not organise his mana no matter how hard he tried.

"Shit!"

Snap!

The jaws suddenly locked around him, filling him with agonising pain.
