The Elven Evolution: Starting With 1 Million SSSR Skills-Chapter 148: [] Chatting With A Demon
Eliron had long gotten acquainted with being plunged into the black, so he just stood there, tapping his feet against the void.
"Any second now..."
And then finally, the world changed, blanketing him in a bright light. At first, Eliron had to wince due to the sudden transition between light and darkness.
But even through squinted eyes, he could see the world unfolding before him.
The clear white world was blossoming. Bright, green grass sprouted from it, filling the area, trees sprang up in all directions, and a building tore through the earth, assembling itself piece by piece.
It was an eerily familiar sight...
"Isn’t this... Constance?"
Constance was a warrior’s inner world. Why then, did a demon possess constance?
Eliron could tell it was not an illusion because it felt the exact same way his Constance felt, the gentle wave of mana, the feeling of the atmosphere, everything.
Creak!
The house was finally complete, a traditional Japanese style building with a Sakura blossom tree hanging right above it, the pink petals drifting down to the ground.
There was a quiet stream flowing just behind it, and a pleasant aroma of food drifting into the air.
Eliron could see a fire by the side of the building with a boar roasting atop it.
’Wasn’t this what the shadows were preparing for?’
It seemed the shadows were mirrors of what had been happening inside the domain.
Eliron glanced at the environment, unlike his Constance which was still incomplete, there was no flaw to be found here.
They said Constance represented a warrior’s innermost self, all Eliron saw was peace, which made him wonder why such a place would belong to a demon.
’Is there even a demon here?’
It was hard to dispute that fact, considering the sinister energy he had sensed from the sword.
Creak!
"Hot—Hot—Hot—Hot—HOT!"
A man suddenly kicked his door open and ran down to his porch, sitting on the edge.
On his hands was a steaming pot, the source of the fantastic aroma he had been perceiving.
Clank!
He dropped the steaming pot on the ground and muttered a curse as some of the broth spilled over.
The sword by his side, the exact weapon Eliron was after jiggled as he adjusted his position.
Then he placed his straw hat on the floor, took out some chopsticks and clasped his hands together.
"Itadakimasu!"
Eliron just stood there, a confused expression on his face.
"A... Japanese demon?"
<•••>
Eliron should have known something was off from the moment he saw the building...
Although some parts of the novel were heavily inspired by Eastern cultures, there were always a few clear differences that served as a distinction.
But in this case, everything was just too similar. So it was either the author got lazy and did a one for one copy, or there was something very wrong going on.
And to cap it off, the ’demon’ looked like a regular human from the Edo period...
He had long grey hair similar to Ash’s, a well trimmed beard, a nose that seemed to have been broken quite a number of times, and a brutish face typical of warriors.
But although he seemed rather mature, he still looked like he was in his late thirties.
The demon slurped up some steaming hot ramen noodles, which made Eliron’s stomach grumble, after which he picked up some boar meat, feasting on it merrily.
Then came the sake bottle to wash everything down.
"Keh—!" The demon exclaimed, his cheeks turning rosy.
"You know..." he began mixing the ingredients and wrapping the noodles around his chopsticks.
"Staring at people while they eat is considered rude where I come from..."
Slurp!
He took a mouthful of the food and chewed slowly before swallowing.
The demon then raised his head, locking eyes with Eliron. "Before you ask, no you can’t have any..."
"??"
"I wasn’t going to ask... my mother told me not to eat from strange men."
The demon paused mid-bite. "Good."
Silence...
Eliron sighed and raised his sword. It didn’t matter what form the demon had chosen to take, his task was still clear.
He needed to kill it...
Still, his curiosity got the better of him and so he asked, "Are you really a demon?"
"Of course..." the demon answered nonchalantly.
’This doesn’t make any sense...’
From the Japanese-style building, to ramen that should not have existed in this world. It was clear that this demon was from earth, but that was not the biggest question on his mind.
When it came to demons, there were fundamental differences between them, at least that was his original understanding.
But now, Eliron was beginning to think his notions of demons were wrong from the start.
What really were demons? And why would a demon use Constance?
"If you truly are a demon, how do you have Constance?" Eliron voiced his thoughts.
The demon cocked his head to the side. "Constance?" He stared around, realization hitting him. "Oh, that is what you call this domain in this world?"
"Well it’s simple really, I have Constance because I was at one point a human. Kid, do you even know what demons are?"
"Wait?" Eliron’s brows twitched in confusion. "Are you saying that demons are formerly humans and other intelligent beings?"
The demon paused, chopsticks full of ramen inches from his mouth.
"No, when did I ever say that??"
Slurp!
"Ahhh—!" He swallowed his ramen, breathing out a pleased sigh. "Alright, let me explain..."
Thump!
He placed his chopstick back into the pot, a hollow sound ringing out. The ramen pot was... empty.
The demon let out a dry sigh, slowly raised the chopsticks, and slammed them on the floor!
"You know what, I am a demon, I don’t need to explain anything to a little shit like you!" The demon barked.
"Huh? Hey! Don’t switch up on me just because your glutinous self can’t handle your food being gone! How is it my fault that you waffled it all down?!"
"It’s your fault that I could not pay attention to my meal! One second it was here, and the second it was gone!"
"Goodness..." Eliron massaged his forehead. "Why did I get stuck with this pig?"
The demon’s face fell. "Pig?!"
Swish!
He pulled out the black sword from its hilt and pointed it at Eliron. "It seems you have overstayed your welcome here, punk."
"You want my pretty sword don’t you?" He glanced at Eliron’s ear. "Yeah, goblins like you have an eye for shiny things."
"G-goblin?? I’m an elf you oaf!"
"Tsk—!" The demon clicked his tongue like an old man, cutting Eliron short.
"We’re going to fight, kid, and since you like lectures so much, I’ll give you one for free. But only because I am mandated to give this shitty description before the start of every duel!"
"And don’t even ask by who..."
’Mandated?’ Eliron wanted to pry, but said nothing, silently absorbing the demon’s words.
The demon glared at Eliron as he spoke. "Demons have a little thing called laws, for a demon, a law is their law is god."
"To exorcise a demon, you must follow this absolute law. For me, my law is simple, disarm me, and you get to keep the sword, think you can manage that?" He chuckled darkly.
’Absolute laws...’ Eliron mused, completely ignoring the demon’s goadings.
Right in front of him was a treasure trove of information, he would be damned if he did not suck as much as he could before he exorcised it.
"Absolute laws huh, is this like the three death law? A demon can only be killed after being slain five times..."
One thing Eliron realised after hearing the demon’s words was that these ’laws’ seemed very similar to something he had witnessed already.
When fighting Drakili in demon form, he had to slay the elder three times, and he grew stronger as a demon after each death.
At the time, Eliron believed it was just a trait of demons, but now, maybe it was a law, just like the demon had said.
Eliron folded his arms across his chest. "Well, I don’t expect a retired ghost like you to know..."
"Ha!" The demon retorted. "I know everything about demons fool!"
The demon rubbed his angular jaw.
"Three death rule hmm?" He chuckled proudly.
"I haven’t heard any rule like that, well, if it exists then it is probably a law of a pseudo-demon, a poor imitation of the real demon’s law."
He had gotten so intrigued by the question that he had temporarily forgotten his feud with Eliron.
"As for the demon that possesses that law... What was his name again? Ah, Yggdrasil, the Righteous demon. And his law is the thousand death principle." He finished.
Eliron froze when the words left his lips.
’Yggdrsil? Like the Supreme Demon Yggdrsil??’
While in most novels, this was the name of the great world tree, in the novel, Titans Tribulations, it was a name that referred to a much darker being.
Yggdrsil, the supreme demon known as righteous. He was one of the twelve titans, the only Titan the mc could not beat, and that very demon...
Was the reason the novel ended.
There were quite a number of notable titans in the novel.
The Hell Fire Dragon,
The Thousand Tail Kitsune,
The Disaster Fae,
The Beyonder, King Of Giants,
The Elven Queen,
The Lord Of The Dead...
But even amongst such world-ending entities, Yggdrsil stood out as the most vile, already having conquered several realms before his appearance in this one.
Eliron let out a long, tired sigh...
’To think I would find this information here?’
To discover that most pseudo-demons in the novel were from him was simply... breathtaking.
He glanced at the demon, about to ask another question, only to discover that the atmosphere around him had changed.
Somehow, the demon now seemed a lot more sinister than it had previously been...
