The Empror's Trap-Chapter 100: Ch - The Assassination
No one had anticipated such a turn of events.
Not even Emperor Feit himself had expected it. He had doubled the security forces and had the area around the parade ground cleared well in advance, implementing very stringent defensive measures. Yet, despite all this, an incident still occurred.
The assailant charged out, his speed enhanced by magic to a point where it was almost impossible for the naked eye to follow.
However, the woman behind Kenji and Pluvia reacted just as quickly.
The moment the assailant emerged, the chief of the Royal Guards drew her long sword and a dazzling spark flashed as her blade intercepted the assailant’s dagger.
However, the dagger seemed to be made of some special material. Despite its slender appearance, it did not chip when it clashed with the chief’s long sword. Instead, it slid along the blade and aimed straight for her wrist.

"Ha!"
The chief let out a low shout and her hand moved almost instantaneously. Her body, enhanced by spiritual energy, collided with the metal gauntlet on her wrist against the dagger’s edge, deflecting the attack.
By this time, even the most inept of the surrounding guards should have realized what was happening. The Royal Guards reacted the fastest, drawing their weapons. However, before they could make a move, a black figure emerged from another group of soldiers.
The chief had just blocked the attack and hadn’t yet noticed her surroundings when the black figure was already within two meters of Pluvia.
Then, he saw the Grand Marshal charging at him like a bull.
Boom!
With a dull thud of a body collision, he felt a sharp pain in his chest and his body was pushed back several steps before he managed to steady himself.
Kenji crouched in front of Pluvia, his bulging back muscles indicating the force of the collision. Spiritual energy flowed through his body, and since he practiced a pure hard martial art, a collision like that would have incapacitated anyone with slightly weaker strength.
However, the man he had just collided with had only been pushed back a few steps.
While surprised, Kenji knew what he needed to do—the priority was to protect Pluvia, not to figure out what kind of training the assailant had undergone.
He looked up and saw the man flick his arm, a cold glint flashing in front of him.
"Damn it..." Kenji realized the danger and almost instinctively lunged forward, knocking Pluvia to the ground. A dagger whizzed past the back of his head. What was even more alarming was that a Royal Guard behind him had instinctively used his spiritual energy to block it, but the dagger pierced through the defense and impaled the guard’s arm.
The Royal Guards had an extremely high pain tolerance. He didn’t even make a sound. Instead, he quickly pulled out the dagger and, while cursing, hurled it back towards where it had come from.
The intruder simply used another dagger to deflect the thrown dagger, and people noticed a faint glow on his hand.
His target was not Pluvia, but Kenji.
As Kenji was getting up, he felt his body grow heavy, his movements becoming extremely sluggish. At the same time, the assailant appeared in front of him and kicked him in the chest.
His body slid a distance on the ground. Several Royal Guards nearby immediately rushed forward to temporarily block the assailant, while two of the guards protecting Pluvia came out to drag him back.
"Damn it, why are you protecting me? Go protect His Majesty!"
Kenji knew why these guys were protecting him—the Royal Guards who came to his aid were his own people. But in this situation, these guys couldn’t tell what was important. He was a military officer; getting kicked might look bad, but the actual damage was minimal. On the other hand, Pluvia was physically weaker (compared to him), and if she took a hit, she might end up meeting her ancestors on the spot!
Clearly, the assailants had a very clear purpose and were not planning to let them go. They were also well-prepared for a full-scale assassination because Kenji saw that at least four or five more people in the army had drawn out the familiar daggers.
One of them, with a calm expression, seemed to mutter something, and the dagger in his hand glowed as it flew towards Pluvia!
That wasn’t all.
Kenji felt a wave of energy coming from behind him.
It was a sign that magic was being cast.
"Get them out of here!"
The chief of the Royal Guards almost took a slash from her opponent in order to reach Kenji.
She sat on top of Kenji, making sure her protective spell covered both of them, and chanted:
"Shield!"
A golden light instantly appeared in front of the three of them. With a loud bang, the magic and the dagger simultaneously struck the golden light, only causing it to dim slightly.
However, the one who suffered the most was Kenji. He hadn’t yet recovered when the chief sat on him so firmly that he almost couldn’t catch his breath—if he hadn’t made an effort to keep some space so as not to directly crush Pluvia, the emperor might have been knocked unconscious by the force of the two of them.
"Grand Marshal, take Her Majesty and go!"
"Got it!"
Kenji didn’t hesitate on this matter and immediately dragged Pluvia towards the back.
He couldn’t afford to hesitate. The job of the Royal Guards was to protect Pluvia. As for him, the Grand Marshal, protecting the emperor was not his main duty. Professional matters should be left to professionals.
The soldiers had also realized what was happening. The soldiers in holy armor marched towards the men in black robes.
The numbers were almost overwhelming. However, when they got close, the black-clad men casually threw their daggers, accurately hitting the core of the holy armor.
There was no sound of shattering or piercing through the armor, but the holy armor stopped moving. Many soldiers in holy armor around them were all immobilized—without the buff from the holy armor, they couldn’t move such a heavy block with their own strength.
The black-clad men did not hesitate at all. Their goal was clear: apart from their target, they ignored everything else. Once they confirmed that there was no further opportunity to attack, they quickly fled the scene.
Faced with their escape, the Royal Guards did not dare to pursue them deeply. They were already short on manpower, and protecting the emperor and Duke Anos was their primary task. If they didn’t catch the assailants and the emperor got stabbed a few times, that would be a professional disgrace.
The chief of the Royal Guards took a deep breath.
"Everyone, check your bodies and see who is injured!"
She quickly checked herself from head to toe to make sure there were no unnoticed wounds, and then she let out a sigh of relief.
The actions of these assassins were so fast that it was almost impossible to react in time
