The Enhanced Doctor-Chapter 752 Liu Banxia "Hides" Too Deeply
People need to live within a social community. It's not enough to merely be skilled in medicine and then hide away in a hospital operating room, solely focused on surgeries.
Building connections requires constant communication with the outside world. It means making more friends through existing ones. These people might not necessarily become your true friends, but in the future, when you need help, they might lend a hand.
I first met Liu Haibing because I treated his father. That relationship has been maintained, and when I bought a house later, it really saved me a lot of money.
Even though it wasn't a house he bought for himself, the favor was still there.
So, bumping into Liu Haibing was a surprise. When he extended an invitation not for business socializing but for a gathering of friends, it was even less of an issue.
"Let me introduce everyone. This is my good buddy, the man who saved my father's life and mine. The brilliant doctor from the Second Affiliated Hospital that I mentioned to you earlier, Liu Banxia."
Upon arriving at the private room, Liu Haibing made a flamboyant introduction.
"Brother Liu, don't praise me so much. If I were as miraculous as you say, I would probably have started a hospital myself," Liu Banxia quickly said.
"This is indeed incredible! Come on, Old Liu, tell the waitstaff to prepare a couple more dishes," a man sitting on the left said enthusiastically.
"Actually, I can't. I'm driving today. Plus, as an emergency doctor, I could be called into surgery at any moment, so I can't drink. I'll toast everyone with tea instead of wine," Liu Banxia said.
After saying that, Liu Banxia picked up the nearby teapot and poured tea into a small cup.
"Dr. Liu, this won't do. If we're using tea instead of wine, we should at least use a bigger cup, right?" a man sitting on the other side chimed in.
Liu Haibing frowned when he heard this. "I'm going to step out and make a call. Old Zhou has clearly had a bit too much. Banxia, don't mind him; Old Zhou just really enjoys his drink."
Liu Banxia glanced over and saw that the man was indeed quite drunk, his face flushed and his eyes glazed. If he weren't so drunk, not even the most tactless person would say such a thing upon a first meeting.
"I understand. If I didn't have patient duties, I'd drink freely at home too. Our lines of work are different, so I can't exactly ask you to patronize my 'business.' I'll drink first, out of respect."
After saying this, Liu Banxia finished the tea in his cup.
They had just met; it was merely a polite gesture, a formality. The thought was what counted. The others were accommodating enough, raising their wine glasses and taking a sip with him.
Old Zhou, the one who had made the initial fuss, didn't move, but Liu Banxia paid him no mind.
Why bother with someone making a scene while drunk? Once alcohol numbs the central nervous system, a person's behavior can change drastically from their usual self.
That's why some people, usually well-mannered, become rowdy when drunk. Alcohol has many effects on the human body.
"Brother Liu, I won't disturb you any longer. I still have to look after my friend's child outside. Call me if you need anything; we're friends, after all," Liu Banxia said.
"Sure, go ahead. We must have a meal together sometime. My old man still talks about you, says you're a very busy man," Liu Haibing said.
"Definitely, definitely," Liu Banxia agreed, then slipped out without letting Liu Haibing see him off.
"Ah... that Old Zhou. We'll have to watch how much he drinks from now on. If it weren't for Banxia's good temper, Old Zhou might find himself unwelcome in this circle anymore," Liu Haibing said after sitting back down.
"Ice Brother, is this Dr. Liu really that well-connected?" someone nearby asked curiously.
"Actually, he is well-connected. We all work in this industry, and many projects in Binhai City are, to some extent, connected to President Qiu. Liu Banxia is a frequent and honored guest at President Qiu's home; they're like brothers," Liu Haibing replied with a wry smile.
His earlier introduction of Liu Banxia hadn't caught their full attention. But the moment "President Qiu" was mentioned, the atmosphere shifted.
The only person they would call "President Qiu" was Qiu Huaili.
Qiu Huaili, while not as overbearing as Qiao Xuezhi, wielded immense influence in the real estate sector. Many development companies had ties to him. If one were to pique Qiu Huaili's interest, things would proceed very smoothly for them.
Even Old Zhou, who had been quite drunk, seemed to sober up a little. Many of his projects, in fact, came through the Qiu Family.
"Should I apologize to Dr. Liu?" Old Zhou asked.
"No need. He's not the petty type. If he truly minded, an apology wouldn't help anyway. Just drink less in the future; you never know when you might cause offense," Liu Haibing replied.
"But Banxia's medical skills are truly impressive. You probably don't follow the news much. Remember that case a while back, where a child had all their abdominal organs removed and then reinserted? Banxia was part of that surgical team."
"And then there was that time a child ran into my car and suffered a severe heart injury. If Banxia hadn't been the one to treat him, the child likely would have died, and I would have been in enormous trouble."
"Anyway, I've figured it out. What's the use of all that money? Can you guarantee a life free of illness and accidents? Eventually, everyone ends up in a doctor's hands."
"If you find a skilled doctor, you suffer less, spend less, and your life can be saved. But if you end up with a quack, you'll spend a fortune, endure needless suffering, and might still lose your life."
"Anyway, if any of my family members have a medical issue now, I send them straight to him. He's very conscientious. He's now a chief resident, or something like that. In any case, he's incredibly skilled."
This was part truth, part embellishment. Praising Liu Banxia also reflected well on him. It was partly to show off to his friends, but he genuinely had immense faith in Banxia's medical abilities.
His words resonated with everyone present.
After all, illness, whether major or minor, is something no one can avoid in their lifetime.
"Alright, we've all had about enough to drink. Let's head out. Get your designated drivers and head home safely," Liu Haibing said.
These men were quite stirred. After all, they had received some insider information today. Some were already contemplating trying to build a relationship with Liu Banxia, perhaps hoping to secure more projects from the Qiu Family's businesses.
"President Liu, your bill comes to 1,480 yuan. With a 30% discount, it's 1,000 yuan," the cashier said during checkout.
"Why so generous today? Did I win a prize? Usually, at most, they just round off the bill for me," Liu Haibing asked, puzzled.
"Dr. Liu requested it. He said you're his friend and a regular customer of Jinbao, so a discount was necessary," the cashier replied with a smile.
"Oh, Banxia has that much pull here? Such a big discount... it's not as if his family owns this place, is it?" Liu Haibing asked, even more puzzled.
"Haha, almost. Dr. Liu and our Boss Qiaoqiao are married," the cashier said with a smile.
Liu Haibing gave a bitter smile; it all clicked into place. No wonder he had found the woman on Liu Banxia's marriage certificate somewhat familiar but couldn't quite place her.
Even though Qiaoqiao managed Jinbao, there were dedicated managers on site; she only dropped by occasionally for unannounced inspections. In truth, not many people knew Qiaoqiao was the actual head of Jinbao.
"Alright, tell Banxia later that Jinbao is our new regular spot. It really does feel comfortable eating 'at home.' Let's go," Liu Haibing called out.
Even after they went outside, they were still discussing this. Liu Banxia had hidden it too well!
The Jinbao Grand Hotel had been a fixture in Binhai City for many years. It had a very strong backing.
While they were discussing Liu Banxia, he and Xiao Yue were elsewhere, listlessly picking at a fruit platter. There was nothing for them to do but wait.
"Brother Liu, what major should I choose?" Xiao Yue asked.
"Pick whatever you like. I think Director Xiao is very open-minded and won't give you a hard time," Liu Banxia said casually.
"As I said when I visited your school, whatever career you choose, it's best if it's something you love. Finding joy in your work while also being able to support a family – that's killing two birds with one stone."
"Besides, our hospital's neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, and general surgery departments all have solid technical skills. If you choose cardiology, you can learn from Chen Xuehai and Chief Director Li."
"No, I should still ask my dad when I get home. I'm just worried he's hoping I'll go into neurosurgery," Xiao Yue said with a troubled expression.
"That's fine. It's good to ask. It'll save you from indecision and potential regret later," Liu Banxia nodded.
"Brother Liu, maybe you could sound out my dad tomorrow at work?" Xiao Yue asked, her eyes sparkling.
Liu Banxia rolled his eyes. "Do you think it's appropriate for me to ask? I'm a general surgeon in the emergency center. Am I supposed to just wander over to the inpatient neurosurgery department to 'chat' with Director Xiao? That wouldn't look right at all." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"Ah... you're right. I guess I have to fight this battle alone. I really do want to go into cardiology," Xiao Yue said dejectedly.
Liu Banxia didn't know what to say. He remembered how worried he had been back then. Although Xiao Yue was also worried now, their concerns were on completely different levels.
Just then, Xiao Yue's phone rang. It was Weiwei; she had just finished giving her statement.
"Weiwei, Dr. Liu prepared a lot of your favorite dishes. You can take them home for dinner later," Xiao Yue said after finding Weiwei.
"Thank you, Dr. Liu," Weiwei said happily.
Giving her statement seemed to have eased Weiwei's mind a little. After all, she had been doing a good deed; those people were the truly awful ones.
"Don't be so polite with me. Captain Shen, can I take Weiwei home now?" Liu Banxia asked.
"Dr. Liu, there might be a small situation. We might need your help with something," Captain Shen said, hesitating slightly.
Liu Banxia was taken aback. What now? Is there something else I need to handle?
