Chapter 337: 337

Assuming that Michelle was telling the truth, which she wasn’t but Lucas didn’t know that, two guesses formed in Lucas’ mind.

The first one was that Michelle was indeed poisoned, but she had something in her system others didn’t have which gave her a certain immunity to poisons.

So, her body was constantly fighting the poison, and when it failed, outbursts she couldn’t control would appear.

Second, maybe Michelle wasn’t even poisoned.

There was a good possibility that Michelle had an inborn predisposition for inhuman abilities, but they never activated.

And when she fell into the liquid she talked about, maybe those abilities got activated.

Maybe, if someone else fell into the liquid, nothing would have happened to them.

"Try climbing the rope again!" Lucas finally said.

He wanted to see if it would happen again.

That would tell a lot about Michelle’s condition.

Michelle nodded and put her hands on the rope again.

She was, too, quite curious.

Especially since it could expose her inhuman abilities.

Truthfully, Michelle was expecting it to happen again, but at the same time, she was putting effort into keeping her muscles under control, so she was really hoping it wouldn’t.

So, pulling herself up on the rope, she lifted her legs to the rope.

The next moment, Michelle did feel her muscles flex under her skin, but as she was partially expecting it, she forced her limbs to stay in place.

For a long while, she remained motionless, stationary, on the rope, using all her willpower to not let her limbs go out of control.

Watching from the side, Lucas could clearly see what was going on.

"Why are you resisting it?" he asked.

Michelle remained silent for a moment, before opening her mouth.

"I want to see to what extent I can control it." When she spoke, it was a bit slowed down, because her full concentration was on her muscles.

To Lucas, that sounded quite reasonable, but he himself would have done things differently.

"Why don’t you test the extent of its control over you for a few times before trying to resist it?"

Thinking about that, Michelle momentarily forgot to control her muscles, and just a moment later found herself just beneath the hook again.

"It certainly seems hard to control," Lucas commented.

Michelle jumped down again, landing on her feet.

Once again, she didn’t even realize that her feet buckled strangely, highly unnaturally.

And just like before, Lucas noticed, because he, as a teacher of body-tempering, was trained to notice the smallest of details in body language.

Also, he was used to observing his students closely to see whether they weren’t making mistakes that could harm them.

After Lucas’ suggestion, Michelle repeatedly climbed the rope.

And to find out more, she not only climbed up but also down, instead of jumping.

She repeated the whole process quite a few times before she thought it was enough, having some insight into it.

And Lucas also had some insight that she herself didn’t notice.

So, Michelle noticed that as long as she didn’t put her feet to the rope, the ability didn’t activate. She didn’t frantically climb the rope.

When she climbed down, the skill activated.

Her legs and arms wrapped around the rope and she slid down on it.

That was about all that Michelle could notice from her perspective, which was highly limited.

Lucas, on the other hand, noticed much more.

Not only was Michelle mostly unable to control her movement when the ability appeared, but it also seemed her consciousness was clouded.

If she was speaking before the ability activated, she would stop, and then seamlessly resume like nothing happened once she got to the top of the rope.

But she didn’t even seem to notice.

It was like the world suddenly sped up around her and the time of climbing was gone.

Another thing was the movement of Michelle’s limbs and joints.

John told Lucas, and Michelle confirmed it, that only one of her hands had inhuman movements, and the rest of her body only had the potential to gain it.

But when the ability activated, all Michelle’s limbs were moving unnaturally, highly resembling how spiders moved their limbs.

Did that mean that Michelle fooled John and she was able to move her limbs like that all the time?

Or did the ability fully bring out the potential of her inhuman movement?

Lucas knew the capabilities of his friend John, so he highly doubted Michelle could fool him, though that was the truth, so he believed his second guess to be right.

And the last thing that Lucas noticed was a soft disruption in the spirit energy near Michelle when the ability activated.

For some reason, it seemed that all the nearby spirit energy was moving towards her, or at least moving in patterns that made it look like that.

That must have meant the ability required spirit energy, and naturally replenished what it used from Michelle’s dantian.

Quite an interesting trait, actually.

Lucas told Michelle all that, and she was fairly surprised.

Just... How could she have not noticed?

Those weren’t little details.

She was sure that if someone else was showing symptoms like that, she would have noticed instantly.

So why didn’t she notice it on herself?

Was it her fault (was she just being reckless), or did something else cause it?

Michelle genuinely didn’t know and was getting confused.

She didn’t want to doubt herself, but the way things were, it seemed she couldn’t trust herself about the most basic skills.

With a slight frown, she sat down on the ground, wondering what was going on.

Seeing Michelle like that, Lucas lifted a brow.

"What got you so worried?" he asked.

Michelle lifted her gaze to look at him.

"Teacher, can you train me to notice details like that?" she asked.

If she lost the ability to see herself properly, she would regain it.

She would train herself until not a single detail escaped her mind.

Lucas shrugged.

"You will most probably learn it as your physical training progresses, but I can also train you a bit in that."

Hearing that, Michelle got up and bowed in thanks.

"Thank you, teacher!" she was genuinely thankful, because she didn’t know what she would do if he said no.

Of course, at some point, she would find a way to train herself on her own, but having someone’s help would be great.

Lucas actually didn’t think much about teaching Michelle.

As all teachers in the academy, though eccentric in his own way, he helped and taught students if they wanted or needed it. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Also, as a teacher, what would he do if not pass on his skills and knowledge to students?

So, while Michelle was quite thankful, Lucas took it as something natural to do.

Standing up, Michelle looked at the rope again.

She wanted to be able to climb it without that strange ability activating.

Or if it activated, she wanted to be able to resist it.

For the next hour or so, Michelle kept hanging from the rope, nearly motionless.

Every now and then, her concentration would slip and she would end up just beneath the hook, but she would jump down and hang on the rope again.

Quickly, perspiration built up on her forehead, a frown forming between her brows.

Also, because Michelle still didn’t have her Everfrost Mantle fixed, she was feeling quite bad.

But she refused to give up.

She kept holding onto the rope until she felt the tension in her muscles subside.

It seemed the ability was subsiding.

Feeling that, Michelle pulled herself higher and started climbing slowly.

The moment she started moving, she felt the tightness under her skin increase.

The ability was fighting to break free, and it was quite difficult to keep it contained.

After a long while, when Michelle was finally under the hook not by the ability but from climbing on her own, she heaved a sigh.

All that was left was to climb back down.

If she could do that without the ability taking hold of her, she would take that as a small victory.

Of course, she would continue training her climbing in the future.

If she constantly had to resist the ability, she would have to keep training to not succumb to it in a critical moment.

So, after Michelle was done with the climbing, Lucas decided it was time to start her physical training.

And since her joints and muscles were different from normal students, the training couldn’t be ordinary.

And Lucas had an idea about what to do.

Since Michelle’s strange flexibility showed the most when she was climbing or hanging from something, Lucas set up something for her.

Though most cultivators could jump high or float at least a bit, ladders and steps existed for those who didn’t reach that level yet or didn’t specialize in jumping.

So, Lucas went to get a big ladder and took it to the wall with the hooks.

There, using a few ropes, he fixed it on the hooks with the ladder’s steps placed horizontally.

Then, he gave Michelle a bunch of weights on her ankles and wrists and had her hang on the ladder for as long as she could.
