Chapter 391: 391

Michelle trained with the little snake double around her neck until Lucas came to the training grounds.

Seeing him, Michelle turned off the machine.

"Teacher," she greeted him.

Lucas swept his gaze over Michelle and noticed that after being repetitively struck in her abdomen, her posture had shifted again.

And this time, it was in a desired way; her balance was controlled by her core.

That was good; she was on the right way to regaining human movement patterns.

Only for a moment did Lucas observe her posture, because his eyes got drawn to the new creature accompanying Michelle.

"Why do you have a snake with you?" he was surprised.

Michelle reached her hand out to touch the little snake, asleep at the moment.

"This little one...? It’s quite clingy."

Lucas arched a brow at her.

"How did you even get it in the first place?" he asked.

"It was a gift..." Michelle showed a slight grin as she remembered Alexander’s dark face when the little snake recognized her as its mother.

Seeing the grin on Michelle’s face, it wasn’t hard to guess who the snake was from.

Nearly everyone in the Academy (and definitely all the teachers) knew that the new guest teacher was the lover of the Second Headmaster’s daughter.

"Won’t it get in the way of your training?" Lucas was skeptical about letting Michelle continue training with a snake on her neck.

What if it suddenly got scared by something (since it was clearly a young snake) and accidentally choked her?

With its length, that could be quite possible.

Because though the snake was small (namely very thin) it was already long enough to loosely loop around Michelle’s neck two times.

A rash reaction in such position could result in a not‑so‑nice ending.

Michelle shook her head.

"It can’t hurt me even if it wanted to," she was certain.

Lucas frowned.

"And why is that?" he probed.

"That’s simple!" Michelle was still smiling.

"I made a contract with it. A contracted beast can never hurt its master."

That was the case with most contracts, and since everyone in the Academy (except Vincent, Marcus, and Antony) thought Michelle (as Ana Ostrich) was extremely weak when it came to spirit energy cultivation, they naturally assumed she could only form the simple contracts.

And those contracts didn’t allow the two contracted parties to hurt each other.

Naturally, Lucas thought Michelle formed that kind of contract with the little snake.

He did know that she had more than met the eye, but for that he gave the credit to her physique.

For quite a while he thought Michelle had some kind of hybrid physique (and he wasn’t exactly wrong).

Lucas had no clue about the fact that Michelle was actually already far up in the Monarch rank levels.

"Since that’s the case, you can train with the snake. If it’s your contracted beast, it might actually be beneficial if it started learning to work and fight alongside you." Lucas finally folded.

Michelle was quite happy to hear that.

She didn’t really want to have to think about where to put the snake if she couldn’t train with it.

Because she was sure it would wake up the moment she would try to take it off her neck.

After settling the things about the snake and the training, Lucas finally went on to explain why he even came to the training grounds.

Earlier, he left Michelle to train alone and she was to come look for him when she noticed that the training had changed her posture or something like that.

So why was he back?

The explanation actually wasn’t all that deep.

Lucas just thought of a completely new training method and wanted to test it on Michelle because of her strange physique.

"So, what is the training method about?" Michelle got curious.

If it was just a regular method, Lucas would have tested it on anyone, even himself, but since he came to her because of it, there had to be something special about it; something that demanded her physique, the over‑mobility of her joints and muscles.

Lucas quickly explained what he had thought of.

Basically, he wanted Michelle to first manage to do a handstand (he didn’t know whether Michelle could do it) and stay like that for a while.

In that state, he wanted her to walk on her hands and like that dodge attacks.

Or, like before, let the machine shoot spirit energy at her.

Or, the two could be combined; she would have to take on the attacks of the machine, while also having to dodge attacks from another machine.

And all the while she would have to balance herself on her hands and not let blood rush into her brain.

Michelle found that training method quite interesting.

And she also understood why Lucas came to her to test the method.

As far as she knew, none of Lucas’ other students trained like she did, by getting repetitively struck in the abdomen.

So, if the new training method involved getting hit, testing it on her seemed smart.

But there was just one problem.

At the moment, because of staging as Ana Ostrich, Michelle was dressed in a dress.

That wasn’t a good clothing to do a handstand in.

So, Michelle agreed with Lucas she would go change clothes before testing the method.

Quickly, Michelle went back to her dorm room and changed into pants and a shirt before returning, naturally the snake still with her.

In the meantime, Lucas was already setting up a new machine for her, the one that would shoot at her much more powerful attacks that she would have to dodge.

Otherwise she would get quite hurt.

Lucas decided that without any danger, the training would be dull.

So, once Michelle was back, Lucas finally asked her if she could do a handstand, or if she needed to learn it.

Or if she was just at the level where she needed some assistance.

And truthfully, Michelle didn’t remember doing any handstands since she became Michelle Grace, so she wasn’t sure.

Back in her past life, she could easily walk on her hands, but in her new one...

That was a thing she didn’t have the answer to.

Especially since her body was completely different from the one she had in her past life.

"I’ll try to do a handstand. If I fail, I’ll just fall down." she concluded.

After that, she put her palms down on the ground and swung her legs up, just like she did so many times in her past life.

But instead of succeeding in making the handstand, her elbows actually buckled and she fell over completely.

"Well, so you can’t do it," Lucas concluded.

"Were you able to do it before? Before your physique changed?" he asked.

Michelle nodded as she got up from the ground.

"I could easily do it any time."

"Try again, I will hold you up if you fall again," Lucas decided.

Michelle listened to him and kicked her feet up again.

Once her weight was on her hands again, her elbows buckled, but before she could fall, Lucas gripped her ankles and held her up, not letting her fall.

"I will slowly let go of you. Get your joints and muscles used to it."

Michelle gave a slight nod and properly tightened the muscles in her hands.

In the meantime Lucas let go of one of her legs, taking away part of the support.

Michelle flexed that leg above herself before completely straightening it.

After just a while more, Michelle was doing the handstand completely on her own.

But she doubted she could yet start walking on her hands.

She first needed to get used to balancing herself on her hands by moving around her feet and such.

Unlike in her past life, when handstands were completely effortless for her, at the moment, she felt it strain her wrists, elbows, and shoulders.

Her altered joints weren’t handling it well.

"The handstand hurts you?" Lucas could see that Michelle’s expression was uncomfortably twisted.

"So it seems... The change in my joints didn’t only bring benefits..." Michelle was having a hard time keeping herself up.

Lucas observed Michelle’s posture in the handstand.

"Stay as you are for as long as you can," he said as he squatted down next to her.

Then, he poked at her elbow, feeling the joint bend under even the slightest pressure.

And...

That caused Michelle to fall down.

This second fall was much worse because she wasn’t expecting it.

She ended up with her face planted in the hard ground.

"Your joints really are unstable," Lucas said that even though it was completely obvious.

"How come your legs are stable when your arms are like this?" he asked.

Michelle got up to stand on her legs.

"Well, since I always stood on my legs, whether before or after my joints changed, my posture naturally altered to that."

Lucas nodded; that made sense.

"So it seems this new training method of mine will greatly benefit you. Having such flexible joints could be a disadvantage to you in some situations."

Michelle nodded.

She was aware she needed to train her hands.

It seemed that from the moment onward, she would be doing handstands quite often and for a long time.
