Chapter 37: Chapter 36 - Running Away

"Arrgghh!!"

"It hurts! Mom!"

"It’s hot!!! Argghh!"

"My child, why aren’t you breathing?"

"You slut! How dare you cheat on me!"

Various screams echoed from the middle of the field.

There were many people gathered in the middle of the field. They were all shouting randomly as if they were experiencing different situations. But that wasn’t the case. They were all in one place, which made it impossible for them to experience different things.

"Are they all under some kind of illusion?"

A magic circle appeared under their feet.

The presence of the magic circle, which emitted a brilliant red color, convinced Lev that they were all under some kind of illusion magic.

They all closed their eyes, but their bodies moved as if they were still conscious. Tears also flowed from their eyes. It was as if the illusion they were seeing was causing them suffering.

Some were reaching out into the air as if asking for help, some were hugging their stomachs while rolling on the floor, and some were hitting their own bodies like crazy people.

When Lev saw a middle-aged woman sitting and weeping while rocking her empty arms like she was holding an infant, he realized that she must be hallucinating about a lost child.

When Lev saw a middle-aged man clutching his chest in pain, he knew that the man must be a victim of NTR.

Apart from those who were still screaming pitifully, there were also some who were already lying motionless on the ground. Red color fresh blood was flowing from their eyes, noses, and mouths as if they had died from an unnatural sadness.

"A magic circle... people being made to suffer...!"

There was no way that was the work of a dungeon boss... at least, it was impossible for a low-level dungeon boss.

Moreover, Lev didn’t see any monsters in this field.

’A giant ice block?!

There was only a giant ice block in the middle of the field—in the middle of the people screaming in pain from the illusion magic. The ice block was enormous, slightly larger than an adult elephant to be precise.

Lev wanted to get closer and confirm what the ice block was, but he was worried that if he got too close, he would be consumed by the illusion magic in the magic circle on the floor. He decided to focus on the victims who had been kidnapped by Andrei first.

Lev didn’t exactly count, but there seemed to be dozens of people moaning in pain in the middle of the field. ’There’s no way they’re the only people who were kidnapped by Andrei.’

He looked around the field. Though it was very wide and vast, he could see what was in the corners of the field thanks to the torches that burned brighter than those on the path leading to the field.

There was nothing impressive about the interior of the field. The floor, walls, and ceiling were just neatly arranged paving stones. Perhaps the only thing that could impress someone—not Lev, of course—was the large pillars that supported the structure of the field.

’Finally, I found them.’

One, two, three, there were about four large iron cages scattered around the field. Inside the iron cages were people sitting and biting their fingers. Their eyes looked frightened. They looked like pigs ready for slaughter—waiting for their turn.

When Lev wanted to approach and open the iron cage that imprisoned them, he stopped when he heard a thud behind him.

"W-what happened to those people?"

It turned out that the surprised voice came from Daria. She covered her mouth and dropped her butt on the ground. Her eyes were wide open.

Well, that reaction should have been the reaction of people who saw Daria’s attitude towards Lev, not a reaction that Daria herself should have shown, Lev thought to himself.

"Why are you here?" Lev asked calmly, already aware of Daria’s presence. He had heightened his alertness thanks to Tozir’s sudden arrival earlier. If it had been one of Andrei’s other henchmen, he would have been ready to draw his sword. However, since it was Daria, Lev only snorted. ’No, maybe this is better.’

Daria explained that she had accidentally entered Andrei’s private office while fleeing in search of a safe place to hide. It was natural for someone who had just arrived at the mansion to get lost, such as Daria. Moreover, she explained that there was a lot of chaos outside.

Initially, Lev had planned to lead the kidnapping victims upstairs himself, but with Daria’s help, he might be able to save a lot of time.

When Lev approached, he saw that there was a chain and padlock that made the iron cage door unable to open, locked tightly.

[Swordsmanship - Activated.]

[Mana String - Activated.]

He used the Swordsmanship and Mana String skills simultaneously to cut the chain that locked the iron cage door.

In many stories, one only needs to tap the lock with the hilt of a sword for it to open, but it wasn’t that easy in reality.

After the iron cage door opened, he hoped that those with hopeless eyes would be a little enthusiastic about their release, but he was wrong. Their eyes instead showed extreme fear.

"N-No! Not me!"

"P-Please forgive me!"

"It’s over... Thwick!"

Some of them suddenly screamed, some prostrated themselves begging for mercy and some seemed to have resigned themselves to their fate.

There was also a person who bit their fingernails more and more ferociously.

"Calm down, everyone. We’re not here to make you suffer in the middle of a field. We’re here to save you." Lev tried to calm them down.

They didn’t seem to believe Lev’s words. Only after Daria suddenly slapped them on the cheek did they calm down.

The same thing happened when Lev opened the other iron cages.

Slap! Slap! Slap!

The sound of slaps continued to echo, awakening the kidnapping victims.

After everyone in the iron cage had gotten out, Lev had only to rescue the people in the middle of the field.

He was afraid to approach the bright red magic circle, but that didn’t mean he had no way to save them.

[Mana String - Activated.]

He pulled them all with the Mana String that came out of his hand.

He didn’t just pull those who were screaming in pain, he also pulled the bodies that were lying on the ground and appeared to be lifeless.

He had no choice because their dead bodies might be more useful. Moreover, there was a possibility that their family members were waiting for even their corpses.

One by one, they were dragged by Lev’s Mana String and left the magic circle.

When he had finished pulling them all out, he gave an instruction to Daria.

"Take them outside. I’ve prepared several horse-drawn carriages and some coachman in the carriage house behind the main building."

Since Lev had been searching for kidnapping victims for the past week, it was not surprising that he had already thought of a way to carry out a quick evacuation.

"Where should I take them?"

"The Dreamhouse brothel. Also, take this." Lev took a pouch out of his magic pouch.

"What is this?"

Although she looked confused, Daria still opened both her palms and accepted the pouch that Lev gave her.

"Just think of it as construction funds. When you take these people to the Dreamhouse brothel, give it to Madam Fleur."

The money came from the safe box in Andrei’s private office.

Actually, the money he had given over the past week was enough to rebuild and transform the Dreamhouse Brothel. As for the money he was giving now, Lev had something else in mind. "Tell Madam Fleur..."

Lev brought his mouth close to Daria’s ear and whispered something—a plan to make more money.

"Eh, is that okay?"

Seeing the confusion on Daria’s face, Lev just nodded.

Lev didn’t know what would happen later, so at least he had to make preparations.

After Daria received the bag of money and the whisper, she began to guide the people out of the dungeon.

The people’s faces were still half in disbelief, but when they realized that they weren’t being forced to go into the magic circle, they quickly nodded and accepted Daria’s instructions to leave.

Moreover, they saw Lev pulling people who were trapped in the illusion of the magic circle, so they became more cooperative.

For those who were still conscious and strong, Lev told them to carry the unconscious people and the corpses. The unconscious people were those who had entered the magic circle. As soon as Lev pulled them out, they suddenly lost consciousness.

That was how they got out of the room with Daria as their mother duck.

In the quiet hallway, Daria led the people behind her while lowering her body.

Her hand was occasionally in front of her mouth to instruct them to be quiet.

There was no one else around as she continued walking. However, the sounds of commotion still echoed from outside the building. ’Remember, Daria. Curiosity can kill you!’ She reminded herself not to be too curious about her surroundings.

She finally arrived safely behind the main building of the mansion.

She continued running until she finally arrived at the place Lev had mentioned, the carriage house.

There were several elderly people already riding in horse-drawn carriages with large but not luxurious carriages—the carriages attached to the horses were more like open boxes, not the carriages usually used by nobles.

With the number of people Daria had brought, including herself, everyone managed to get on safely. However, the coachmen looked very panicked and asked Daria to hurry up.

"W-what is that?"

On the way to the back gate, the escape route, Daria saw living skeletons.

She had received instructions from Lev that if she saw any strange creatures, she should ignore them, but she still couldn’t help but stare.

The horses they were riding were also frightened, and the coachman even hesitated and intended to break his promise to Lev.

"Please ignore those creatures, Sir," Daria ordered the coachman.

"Don’t worry. I have received kindness from Young Master Lev. Of course, I’ll do my duty until the end."

"Oh, how is that possible?"

"The blacksmith who received the warning from the Young Master is my cousin. Thanks to Young Master Lev’s warning, he is still alive. At least this is what I can do."

Hearing that, Daria smiled in relief.

’Is this part of Young Master’s plan? Just as I expected from the one I love! Fufufu.’ Daria’s eyes turned into hearts as she thought of Lev.
