55 -55: Mind Your Own Business_1

In another room of the western wing.

Yang Baifu’s feet soaked comfortably in hot water as he leaned against the bed, while his wife, Yang Dongshi, sat on a small stool, meticulously washing his feet.

“Tomorrow, go see your sister-in-law,” Yang Baifu suddenly said.

Yang Dongshi glanced up at her husband and nodded hurriedly, “Yes.” Without a son, she had always felt insecure in the Yang Family, always treading carefully for fear of being carelessly dismissed and sent back to her own family.

“What do you think happened with Dani?” Yang Baifu rubbed his nose as he spoke, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes, “How did that wretched girl suddenly become so formidable?”

Yang Dongshi forced a smile but didn’t know what to say, so she changed the subject, “The water has cooled, let me dry your feet,” as she reached for a towel.

Yang Baifu was annoyed, “Talking to you is like playing the lute to a cow.” With that, he splashed water on her face as he pulled his feet out of the basin.

Yang Dongshi dared not say anything, quickly dried his feet with the towel, moved him onto the bed, and then went to dump the foot-bath water.

However, when she returned, she found Yang Baifu had gotten out of bed and hurried forward, “Head of the family, where are you going this late?”

“None of your business,” Yang Baifu gave Yang Dongshi a glare, “You’re useless and it’s not your concern…” and with that, he left.

Yang Dongshi could only sigh, then climbed into bed and hid under the covers, secretly wiping away her tears.

Meanwhile, in the main room, Ruxin watched as her younger brothers and sisters gradually fell asleep, then got up and walked around the space, finding nothing out of the ordinary.

After checking on Xun Hui, she discovered that Xun Hui had a fever again.

Fortunately, the fever wasn’t very high this time, and after applying a cold compress a couple of times, it quickly subsided – a good sign.

Just as she was preparing to sleep, Ruxin felt a keen sensation that someone was watching her.

She looked around the room.

With just four walls and the five people sleeping beside her, where could there be another person?

Yet, why did she feel this way?

There were two windows in this room, one at the back, high and small, overlooking an outside path and facing the neighbor’s yard wall, which even an adult would need to climb to peer into the room.

The front window faced the Yang Family’s courtyard, and anyone standing outside would be easily noticed.

Moreover, she could sense that the gaze was not coming from either window.

But soon, the unsettling feeling of being spied on disappeared.

Ruxin frowned.

Was she being neurotic, being in such a strange place?

She shook her head, laid down again, and decided to get some proper sleep first.

Despite not sleeping much, the body’s biological clock was accurate; at the first hint of dawn, she opened her eyes.

Before she could even stretch, roosters started crowing outside; one after another joined in until their calls merged into a chorus from all around.

Xun Hui was also awake by then.

Perhaps the medicine had taken effect, or the rare full meal had helped, so she felt relatively energetic, despite the intense pain in her body.

Still, she struggled to get out of bed.
