The First King of Beasts-Chapter 94 Set On Journey I
The man was looking a bit curiously at Dustin, as he had expected a system interface to pop up before him, but to his surprise nothing of the sort happened. He must have immediately tried to do something else that was interesting enough to cause him to smile. 'We just met, but he is already so much of a mystery. I wonder what else...'
Dustin noticed the change in expression of the man before him and immediately knew why it was. Normally, every other person who came from earth into Na'ash had a system, and theirs would appear visible for others to see, just that one couldn't read the other's information. Of course, the systems were very different in many ways, and in comparison to Dustin's system, others could be considered cave systems, but the fact that the person who most likeably controls these systems can't see it is something to be worried about. Surprisingly however, the messenger just sat down without any further talk, like that was how things were supposed to go.
Dustin let him move passed him without any complaint and even take a seat. Seeing that the messenger had made a fuss over the system thing, for now at least, Dustin became quite interested in why the messenger was there to begin with.
"What's the deal, why have you come here?" He asked. Dustin was not looking for this to become some friend building moment, so he was going to get to the point. There was no way he could trust a god, nothing in history has ever shown that these beings actually came to help when they approach a human. Overall, Dustin was very sceptical about the whole thing.
The messenger who had taken a seat directly facing the one Dustin sat on at the moment seemed to hesitate a bit, but then spoke. "Are you familiar with divine energy?" The man asked, curiosity etched into his voice a little. 𝘧𝔯e𝗲𝙬ℯ𝙗𝓷o𝘷e𝗹.𝐜𝑜𝒎
Dustin, realizing that the little amount of divine energy within him might have been found out already made some mental preparations in case he had to fight at that moment. Even with all this, it was quite the awkward sight in the room as there was no tension at all.
Dustin just leaned into his chair more before responding to the question, "Is that the reason you are here?" He asked with his normal calm voice.
The messenger stared at him right in the eyes for some seconds before breaking the eye contact and looking around the room. "Your house seems a bit messy. Perhaps I didn't come at the right time?" He asked.
"Get to the point already." Dustin responded. It was quite rude of him to be like this, but he was sure that if the messenger wanted to harm him, he could easily do so. With that, Dustin was sure that something was needed from him, but what it was he didn't know. 'Perhaps he wants to know about the divine energy?' Dustin thought to himself.
He remembered something about the gods not allowed to interfere with the people that were brought to Na'ash, so it was understandable why the messenger would be so curious to even pay a visit.
"You are an impatient one aren't you?"
"..."
"Fair enough. I have a request, i want you to save some people for me. They are a very important group, and they have been stranded somewhere for too long now, and might die if nothing is done. I want you to go help bring them back safely." The messenger said.
"And what do I get from this?" Dustin asked, still calm. Both of them were calm.
"An increase in the chance of saving humanity?"
"Then I reject."
"5000 points."
"I reject."
"..." The messenger paused for a while before continuing. "It's rare to see someone contain such a level of dark energy, that is if there are any out there of course." The messenger said. Dustin didn't respond to this either, so the messenger just went on. "I can get you to meet with the being of death from the underworld. Since you have such level of dark energy, I'm sure it will help."
Hearing this offer, Dustin was very intrigued by it. He wasn't sure what benefits meeting with a being from the underworld would bring him, but he was sure that it wouldn't be a bad experience. The thing was what kind of being was the messenger talking about. For all he knew, the messenger could mean a maggot.
They talked for a bit more, and after guaranteeing that he wasn't about to be scammed, Dustin just had another question he need an answer to.
"Why didn't you go save them yourself? You could always disguise as a normal person and do that right?" Dustin asked the question that had been on his mind ever since the messenger told him about the reason he was there.
"I might be able to come here, but that doesn't mean it's allowed."
"So you are breaking a rule right now?"
"Yes. Since it's a small rule, someone like me can get away with breaking it if I manoeuvre well, but something like direct interference, the rules are stricter and the penalties are immediate and harsh. Not something I can handle." The messenger explained.
"But you can at least shorten my journey there by teleporting me closer to the spot right? That shouldn't be too difficult." Dustin said.
'Nope, it is. Really, if only she were here, this would have been easy.' The messenger thought to himself.
"Well.." Before he continued, Dustin interrupted. f𝔯𝒆𝚎𝚠𝑒𝚋𝓃૦νℯƖ.co𝘮
"Fine, at least provide me with a suitable transport." Dustin said, and the messenger smiled back at him in approval.
They spent some time discussing about the details of the quest he had just received, as it was really a quest. From what was discussed, Dustin got to find out that the place the messenger requested him to go to was actually close to one of the places he wanted to visit himself. It wasn't exactly close by, but it was in the same region, so for him it was like killing two birds with one stone, and even getting a good reward in return. Dustin still made the messenger take an oath as he couldn't really trust gods. With that, the messenger left, and with Dustin's appetite gone, he just focused on the things he was going to be taking with him.
