THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 372: Isn’t That Your Girlfriend?
"Maybe it’s not only Steffan that is suffering from memory loss. You seem to have joined in the league too," Killian smirked and walked away.
His business for the day was over and he saw no reason to remain there.
"Hey, don’t you think you should make yourself clear?" George called out as he hurried after Killian.
"Shhh... isn’t that your girlfriend beside your car? She’s probably waiting for you to console her and probably fight against all the people that Hebrews wrongly accused her," Killian teased while pointing at the direction where George’s car was parked.
"Why is she still here?" George asked no one in particular as his expression turned dark. How dare she lean against his car with her defiled body?
Did she think he didn’t know about what she had been doing with those men just to get to where she was?
To avoid the unnecessary attention that the slightest interaction with Peggy would bring him, he decided to follow Steffan out of the venue.
He was sure that the reporters will soon be through with Lauren and once they get the least idea that he was out here, they will swarm him like bees so now was his best opportunity for an escape as they were still focused on the winner.
"I’ll leave with you in your car," he quickly whispered to Killian but Killian was clearly not ready to cooperate as he directly refused.
George’s expression turned awful as he begged frantically. "You have to help your brother? I’m not in the mood to deal with this piece of garbage and least of all, the barrage of questions from those jobless reporters."
Killian stopped as if he was seriously considering his request but what came out of his mouth the next minute was beyond George’s expectation. "Do you finally agree that you are spineless?"
"Yes," George nodded without wasting any time. Was it not just to agree with him for now? As long as he is able to get past the immediate trouble, he didn’t mind humoring his troublesome cousin.
It doesn’t mean he was actually spineless, which Killian also knew though he didn’t know why he insisted on hearing him say that whenever he needed to help him with something.
"Alright, I’ll help you, brother," Killian smiled smugly.
"Brother, indeed," George murmured grudgingly as he sat in the car.
Killian, who was about sitting in the car, stopped and placed one arm on the car hood. "Did you say something?"
"I said thank you," George uttered sarcastically.
Killian chuckled happily. "Don’t mention. What are brothers for? Since you’re free today, I want you to follow me somewhere," he added.
"Where’s that?" George asked skeptically. Killian was always full of strange stuff and he didn’t want to be caught up in the middle of one of his stunts.
"You’ll find out soon. All you have to know for now is that it’s about Lauren and I want you to use your looks to help Lauren for once."
"I’ve always helped her, why make it look as if it’s a one off thing?" George complained with a frown as he strapped the seat belt around him. As long as it concerns Lauren, he was willing to do anything, after all, she was his favorite cousin. As he didn’t have a sister himself,
"But I still think you’re more used to getting her into trouble than helping her," Killian insisted, "take today for example," he added.
"That’s because Peggy is a psycho that doesn’t know her place and when she’s not needed," George scoffed and scrolled his phone to check the comments on social media.
"Do you think Lauren will be very happy with you for keeping her in the dark about being the new president of Barista Royale?"
"I’ll find a way to appease her," George responded without lifting his head from his phone.
"Yeah," Killian said and focused on the road. It was useless trying to understand how George would always convince Lauren and get her to forgive him so easily. They were two of a kind. If they were not cousins, he was sure they would have made a great couple.
But Lauren’s heart was somewhere else and although he always teased George, he knew that what he truly felt for Lauren was deep.
George, who had been staring at his phone, saw that the competition had been officially declared over and a dinner party had been fixed to host the teams that participated and their family members as he had instructed before leaving.
He wondered if Lauren would reach out to him or ask his dump boyfriend to go with her. He could roughly guess what her choice would be and chuckled helplessly.
"What’s up with you? Why are you suddenly looking so pathetic? Are you scared you won’t be able to explain yourself to Lauren this time around?" Killlian taunted as he glanced briefly at George.
"That’s not what I’m thinking about. There’s a dinner party coming up tonight for all the participants. Who do you think Lauren would choose to attend with?"
"Her team members of course," Killian said without even bothering to think.
George saw the smirk on Killian’s lips that he made no effort to hide. "Each teammate is expected to bring at least one person," he said casually. But Killian saw beneath his casual statement and his smile increased.
"I guess you already know who Lauren will pick as her plus one, don’t tell me you’re jealous?" he teased.
"Why should I be jealous of a brainless man who can’t remember the woman he loves?"
"It’s like you’re happy with the situation."
"Shouldn’t I? At least Lauren gets to have more freedom."
"And more time to clean up your mess," Killian added for George. "I wonder how you will cope when she eventually gets married.
"When we get to that bridge, we’ll cross it," George replied nonchalantly. "So where are we going? Aren’t we there yet?" he asked impatiently.
"Soon," was the curt reply he got from Killian.
About five minutes later, they arrived in front of a house.
"What are we doing here?" George asked when they’d been there for over a minute and Killian made no effort for them to come down from the car.
"Just a moment," he cautioned. But listen carefully to what I’m about to say," Killian said mysteriously, causing a deep frown to appear on George’s brow.
"Do your best to sweep her off her feet with your charms and establish a connection with her as soon as possible. We might be needing it later."
"Why do I need to do that?" George shot back. He didn’t like the way Killian was about to use him as bait to catch one of his criminals. And this is exactly the reason he didn’t like hanging around him and preferred the less complicated Lauren who always livened up his day.
"I’ll explain it to you later. Just move already," Killian urged impatiently.
"Whatever explanation you have to give, had better be worth it otherwise..." George left the threat hanging as he stepped out of the car.
He had barely arrived at the porch of the building when the door to the apartment opened and an extremely beautiful young lady stepped out of the house.
