The Forgotten Slayer-Chapter 21: Caught in the Present
Chapter 21 - Caught in the Present
Clyde woke up in a pool of sweat in a bed he was unfamiliar with. Sitting up he was reminded of the pain. It didn't feel as bad as it should have but he didn't mind that much. As the memories of what happened were brought back to him he realized where he was.
'Somewhere in the academy.'
Raising an arm he saw he was pretty much bandaged in all of his damaged spots.
Avelyn opened the door carrying a tray of food.
"You're awake. How do you feel?"
"Better than I thought I would be. How long have I been here?"
Setting the tray down on the table next to him she replied.
"If I were guessing it's been between a day or two."
Letting out an exhaustive sigh, Clyde fell on his back.
"How's the situation outside and how is Lapis."
"Lapis was not as heavily injured although from what I understand most of your injuries come from yourself. Things have been very quiet. It's kind of eerie if I'm being honest."
As she said that last sentence Clyde could tell from her face that Avelyn was worried.
"In a minute I'll get up and look out there. If anything dangerous is nearby I should be able to sense it pretty directly."
Avelyn shook her head.
The source of this c𝐨ntent is freeweɓnovēl.coɱ.
"That won't be necessary, I've had Bell and Lapis scout out a bit. You'd have to go out further than I'd like in your condition to see any potential danger."
"We don't have a choice."
Clyde started to move hastily out of bed but Avelyn stopped him in his tracks with a hand.
"You can't even move me out of the way, I doubt you can even feed yourself right now."
Her other hand had already grabbed a condensed bar of protein. She moved it towards Clyde's face and he took it from her. However grabbing it with his hand was difficult and painful. It was pretty hard to feel anything also. This led to Clyde dropping the bar on the bed.
Avelyn smiled before she turned around to walk out of the room.
"I'll be just out this door if you need me."
"Whatever you say."
Clyde was left alone in the room. He knew that he needed to figure out if anything was going on but Avelyn broke that resolve with reality. At minimum he would need to wait a day before leaving.
After a crummy attempt at eating the food she brought him Clyde rolled over and got more rest.
When he woke up again it was unclear how much time he actually slept. Time was becoming more and more difficult to keep track of for everyone. But he did know that he felt amazing.
'This is impossible.'
He slowly unwrapped his body and then unwrapped faster once he saw his body looking completely healed. Perhaps he was adjusting to the burden of power as he tempered his body through combat.
Getting out of bed Clyde walked over to a mirror. A lot had changed in a few months. The scar on his chest was a reminder. His body also looked different after receiving his new power.
Avelyns voice almost made him choke on air.
"Checking yourself out now are we?"
"Shut it."
Clyde turned around to face her.
"Do you have anything spare I can wear?"
A scheming expression appeared on her face.
"In men's or women's? If it's girls clothing I'm afraid nothing in hear would fit your size."
Clyde was used to her teasing but he was driven off the edge today.
"I'll find something myself."
Storming out of the room with nothing but shorts, Avelyn chased after him.
"You can't be serious!"
Without looking back and continuing to press forward Clyde responded.
"Deadly."
Continuing out of her office, Clyde reached for the door knob to the hallway and opened. On the other side was Bell who was actually reaching for the door knob to enter.
Her cheeks became as red as her hair. Stumbling back Bell began to stutter.
"Cly- Clyde... why are you barely dressed."
Behind him she saw her master Ava. Whatever thoughts popped into her head caused her to cover her eyes and run away.
Clyde popped his head out of the office.
"Bell wait, it's not what it looks like!"
Avelyn grabbed Clyde's shoulder and pulled back in shutting the door behind her.
"I will go fetch you something appropriate."
An hour later Avelyn returned with some unremarkable gear. It would do for now before he got something better.
'If I ever make it out of here anyway.'
Half an hour went by and Clyde was ready to leave. Stepping out into the darkness Clyde was alone. But he had an important mission to accomplish.
Making his way into the city, Clyde left the academy behind.

On top of a war horse, John looked magnificent with his hair in the wind. An army of the dead was following behind him. In an hour after gathering the remaining forces in the city he would lay siege to the academy where everyone was hiding.
'I really didn't want to get involved but if you want something done do it yourself.'
He knew Avelyn was a fearsome woman but her exponential growth had been cut short when she became the headmistress of the academy.
He himself had not been idle all of this time either. Making a name for himself throughout all of Cieder wasn't easy after all.
Being the personal knight of Lucas the All Knowing brought further renown to his name.
'Smug bastard.'
Lucas has that title for a reason. He was never wrong about anything. On top of that he attained credit for every action John did in his name.
While it was annoying at first, John began to enjoy his assignments. And today he would get to be his true self in front of people living on borrowed time. Under his authority and strength alone, Avalor would fall and become dust.
